Kayan grew up in the Northern barbarian tribe of Boetian with her parents, the tribal leaders. Her father, Clax ruled the tribe as a just and honest man who many respected. Her mother Andorya was the guiding hand of many of the tribes problems and issues. For most of Kayan's younger years life was good as the leaders only heir.
There were others within the homestead that had hatred and jealousy in there hearts towards Clax and Andorya, specifically Drudon the Wise Oracle. Drudon had grown up with Clax and the two were very close. Clax would often seek Drudon's assistance in matters of handling tribal affairs and peace matters with other tribes. Drudon was not content in just being "the wise" to Clax, his pain was deep over many affairs. Clax having the most beautiful woman in the tribe, Andorya, as well as power and love of the people. These things twisted Drudon's heart to rage and vengenance over the years. Finally the peaceful years of the Boetian came crashing down when Drudon took action through lies, broken promises, and using dark magic to conspire other tribes and evil races against the Boetian people. Drudon gained favor and brought rivals together to destroy Clax and his reputation. During this conflict Andorya was killed, Drudon through his rage blamed Clax for this misdoing and in his spite tortured Kayan in front of her father before killing him.
Kayan grew up as the hate and spite of Drudon. For countless years Kayan was tortured by Drudon, where he took out all his rath upon her. Countless beatings and scars made Kayan go mad on several occasions. Many times over Kayan was broken down and built back up, her mind twisted beyond help. In time Kayan learned to survive through whatever means, no matter the cost, with no mercy. In order to keep sane Kayan would cut her face to keep her thoughts from the dark thoughts that Drudon put in her mind. Kayan eventually was able to break from the maddness and escaped but to her dismay was recaptured. When she was dragged back Drudon through his cursed magic permamently scarred her through many experiments to the point where her body is now wasting away.
Through this torture Kayan was able to draw from her sorrow and hatred mystic abilities as an oracle herself. Kayan had her fathers strength and her mothers perseverance, with this it gave her the will to survive. During her free time chained to a post, her body contorted in various ways with rope she began to harness this inner strength and make it come to life through magic. She had no idea where it came from, just that some inner fiber was fighting against all odds, hating all of life for the toil she was dealt.
Drudon at first had no idea about what Kayan had started to do, but soon he noticed that Kayan was healing faster ... her wounds mending more often. Drudon waited and soon found Kayan out and was impressed, impressed that through all he had done to break her down she still sought to live, much like her mother. Drudon took a different stance to this small memory of a woman he once sought and began to teach Kayan many things in life. Even though Kayan hates Drudon, his dark teachings she still uses a means to an end ... survival.
A few years after starting to teach Kayan, Drudon and the various tribes he brought together with lies and broken promises finally came crashing down around him. In the end Drudon was killed and burned for all his evil ways. Many of the new found tribal elders felt sorry for Kayan and what they allowed to conspire and they showed her kindness, but Kayan was beyond trusting the leaders or people who cast her father and mother away and instead left to adventure ... to finally have her freedom and keep it no matter the cost.
