Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein will take a shot at any goblins who happen to be stragglers with his bow, looking to avoid the risk of shooting the pinkskins by accident.

Spoiler:

Bow attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
I am guessing this doesn't likely need damage...

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein attempts to quietly ready his bow, fully expecting that the goblins are going to explode into violence at the drop of a dogslicer.

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Almost as an afterthought, Karlimein will beckon for his brother to get his scaled butt over into the hiding spot with him. He hisses, quietly, "Keep your head down - if the pinkskins blow whatever they're trying for, we can get the jump on the freaks, at least."

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein says nothing, striving to remain hidden in the nearby undergrowth. If the goblins can't be parlayed with, at least he'll have the chance to get in a surprise attack.

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein will speak quietly, [b]"Look, we can hear more of them coming, and the one in the bushes hasn't yelled for help or anything. There's no sense prancing out here in the open for them, if we can conceal ourselves and get the jump on them instead. Let's hide - not in the thorns, no sense in getting bitten by the freak - and try to get the drop on them." He quickly suits words to actions, as well.

Spoiler:

Stealth: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (7) + 18 = 25

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Damn goblin dogs, hitting me in my weak save.

Spoiler:

Fort save 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Attack roll, flanking 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
Damage 1d4 + 2d6 ⇒ (4) + (4, 4) = 12

Karlimein yelps, and then curses in Draconic, the loudest sound he's made so far in the fight, then turns to try to skewer the goblin dog with his rapier. "You miserable sack of goblin dung!"

Pretty sure I blew the save, so -1 to my attack roll since it's Weapon Finesse.

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein shoves his rapier into the goblin between him and Marko, a low snarl rattling out of his small body as he does so.

Dice:

Attack roll, flanking: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Damage roll: 1d4 + 2d6 ⇒ (3) + (3, 6) = 12

...That threatens a crit, doesn't it?
Confirmation attempt: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Crit damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4

Karlimein will follow his brother, although not at a charge, looking to maneuver to flank Kuromein's target from the position least likely to endanger himself, so that he can set himself up for sneak attacks and give his brother a flanking bonus. Compared to his usual sarcastic chatter, he's eerily silent while fighting, completely focused on putting his opponents down as quickly and violently as possible.

In light of the map, Karlimein is going to move to the right side of the goblin dog, and hope like hell someone will move into position to let him flank it for sneak attack damage.

Edit: Looks like Marko will be in place for Karlimein to sneak attack the goblin dog. Woohoo!

Rolls:

Attack roll, if no one flanks, with my masterwork rapier: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Attack roll, if I get flanking: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Damage, no flank support: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Damage, flanking: 1d4 + 2d6 ⇒ (4) + (3, 5) = 12

Karlimein will follow his brother, although not at a charge, looking to maneuver to flank Kuromein's target from the position least likely to endanger himself, so that he can set himself up for sneak attacks and give his brother a flanking bonus. Compared to his usual sarcastic chatter, he's eerily silent while fighting, completely focused on putting his opponents down as quickly and violently as possible.

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein grins. "Not a problem. I know right where it is, so between that and Kuro's eyes, we shouldn't have any problem. No need to worry - we'll thump your brother a good one, skewer whatever he's hanging out with, and drag him back here by his ankles for you."

He edges a bit closer to Ameiko, and draws the mithril dagger he was given. His voice a bit lower, he shows it to her. "Could you do me a favor while we're out hunting your brother down? You know Das Korvut doesn't like me or Kuro - I don't blame him, even if he's holding a grudge for far too long - but he's the only one I can think of with the skill to work this stuff. Could you maybe see if he'll reforge it into something that's actually sized right for me to use it?"

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein mutters under his breath for a moment before speaking up. "I hope not. Shalelu's got something against Kuro and I - and Ameiko's stressed enough she might do something crazy even for adventuring types." He's got all of his gear, including the pony he occasionally rides so that he can keep up with the longshank pinkskins more easily. Even the coffer that he can't crack open is stored in the bottom of his pack, well away from his brother's greedy fingers.

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein chips in with, "My brother is a good tracker. Me, I'm good at getting into places and even better at not being spotted doing it." He nudges Kuro, "We're also good at fighting together. It was one of those 'learn it or be everyone's favorite target'."

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein grins at his brother's response, before looking up at Marko. "Ameiko wants her brother alive. We try to bring him back alive. The others, I say we pay them back and toss the bodies into the sea. Thistletop's got plenty of sea to toss the bodies toward. Plus, well, even with goblins, there might be some old stuff there worth picking up."

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein studiously ignores Shalelu, looking over at the others. "If Ameiko wants him dragged back alive, I'm for trying to drag him back. Of course, if he fights like a cornered rat, we may not have any choice but to cut him down and bring the body back as proof."

He nudges his brother, "Hey, Kuro. You up to hunting him down?"

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein watches the elf a bit warily as she comes in.

Die Rolls:

Perception 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
Knowledge (Local) 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Knowledge (Geography) 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Knowledge (Dungeoneering) 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22

Failed the Perception check, but I think Karlimein probably knows something about Thistletop, there.

He clears his throat as the others talk, just enough to hopefully catch a bit of attention. "Whatever's in the catacombs has been there a long while already, right? It can keep while we hunt down Ameiko's brother. The longer we wait with him, the further he can run and hide." He pauses briefly, and shrugs. "At least, in his place I'd be running like a goblin with a wolf after it."

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein has spent the whole encounter looking alarmed and half-hiding incase violence breaks out, since he's not sure where the lines of loyalty would fall. Once things calm down, he sidles back out unobtrusively and rejoins the group. "We get Shortclaw here to track your brother, and go find a hungry wolfpack to feed him to, right?"

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein eyes the card drawn for him skeptically, before Ameiko requests the cards be cast on the subject. He watches, each gesture and flick of the hands more fascinating than the cards themselves. As the others move to head back to the back, he looks across the room at Kuromein and calls out, in Draconic, "Hey! Shortclaw! You coming or not?"

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein pulls himself up onto a handy chair, taking the time to inspect the cards as Calathes flips them over. [b]"Eh. Sure, why not?" He pulls his pack around to rest on the table, leaning forward on his elbows to watch Marko's hands more than the cards. "If nothing else, it should be good for some entertainment, right?"

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein puts the dagger away again, and nods. "I know." He listens to Ameiko and Calathes, making a quizzical noise at the idea of a voice talking to the man.

While Calathes and Ameiko talk, he stretches up to squint at the deck of cards Marko is shuffling, taking no particular care to hide himself - still ignoring his brother should Kuromein eventually wander over, although he keeps his pack angled away from the other kobold.

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein snorts. "You wouldn't be asking. I'm offering. You sided with us often enough when we were hatchlings still - besides, we're apparently tagging along with those adventurous types who chased the goblins off during the Festival." He waves a hand, roughly, in the direction of Calathes after he gets near. "Their sort are usually all about helping track down scum, right?" He pauses, and draws the mithril dagger to show Ameiko, "See? One of them - he's off trying to sell a ring - handed me this. Need to get it reworked, but once it's shaped and sized for me, I'll be happy to help hunt Tetsuo down." Sincerity: not a common tone from one of the brothers.

Male Kobold Rogue 3

"The sly one." Karlimein pauses for a beat, then continues, "Wanted to say I'm sorry to hear about what happened." To anyone else except his brother and possibly his 'mother', his voice would be dripping with sarcasm. To Ameiko, though, he's completely sincere. Amazing what happens when you treat a hatchling halfway decent, growing up. "Want me to get Kuro to track your brother?" He fidgets with the new dagger, uncommonly heavy at his side, as he speaks.

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein narrows his eyes, ignoring his brother, and slips off his chair, taking his bag with him as he goes. He ducks down where most other patrons aren't going to pay him any mind whatsoever, and threads his way across the room to where Ameiko is, blithely ignoring the usual divide of patron/employee in the furnishings to show up next to her. "Hey. Ameiko." He tugs on the fabric of her shirt to make sure she notices him, even if everyone else but Calathes and Kuromein are likely oblivious to his position.

Skill Check:

Stealth to cross the room undetected: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (18) + 18 = 36
Sense Motive for Ameiko and maybe Gorvi: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Perception just in case it proves handy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein decides against asking Calathes to take the dagger to the smith just yet, and instead turns his attention to his surroundings in hopes of getting some food and drink, while they wait on the last member of the group.

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein weighs his options, lightly drumming his talons against the gleaming new weapon as he watches Calathes listening to the conversation.

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein sulks his way in the door, half-ignoring his brother after their heated exchange a short time earlier. He's not trying to be stealthy, this time, as he glances around and makes his way over to where Calathes is sitting, lifting himself up onto one of the human-sized chairs with a whuff of annoyance before nodding to the other adventurer. He leaves his brother to pick out his own chair, and scans around the room.

Skills:
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20 for Perception. Also, is there an appropriate check I'd need to know who I could find who could reforge the dagger into a weapon sized for a kobold? Like say a Small-size rapier or short sword?

Male Kobold Rogue 3

If the others are cool with it, Karlimein will take the mithril dagger. It's Medium-size, I would presume, so it pairs nicely with his pigsticker knife-sword.

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein raises one eyeridge in an expression somewhere between quizzical and surprised. He's clearly not used to any of the Tall Folk bothering to get down to his level - but his surprise quickly fades as he sees the item selection. He passes his fingers across them, lingering oh-so-briefly on the scroll and the wand before inspecting the gleaming silver-like dagger.

I am presuming this is the dagger-with-no-handle?

"If this can be fixed," he says in a low tone of voice, "or reforged somehow to fit my hands, it'll cut sharper than anything I own now - and I've heard metals like this take up magic more readily than simple steel."

The appraising look he directs at Norhalo might indicate the kobold's opinion of his pinksin companion has gone up a bit, between the crouch and the offer to share loot not belonging in his scaly hands.

Male Kobold Rogue 3

The dagger would certainly intrigue me, but I wasn't there and thus know nothing of it - so all the sale parts are up to you two. I'm more interested in what might be inside the locked coffer.

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein cheerfully pads along. "It might be. You could certainly ask, but I'm sure it isn't important - the important thing is where you lot are headed now, and how Kuro and I are going to be involved." The little rust-hued creature has become measurably more cheerful - perhaps related to the coffer, perhaps not. "So where are we headed now?"

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein grins, nonchalantly tucking the coffer into his pack as he falls in with the group. "Mother confused me for you again. I think she has another errand for you, but it can certainly wait. Where are we going now?" He debates picking the lock on the coffer now, but concludes that it can wait until he's not in a place where he'll promptly get in trouble - and where he can pin it on his brother's exuberance, if need be. "And what did you do that Dusk was screaming about, this time?"

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein quickly darts through the door. "Thanks, Titus. I'll just follow the screaming, yes?" He heads in, looking for his brother or, if he's lucky, the adventurers his brother is supposed to be hanging out with.

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein considers this for a moment, and nods. "Thank you, mother, although they may have found something else. Possibly older." Unless stopped, the kobold slips back out and goes looking for the pack of adventurers again.

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Black Fang:
Karlimein checks a sigh. "I am Karlimein. Kuromein's following some explorers around so they don't wander off without us. Yes, I delivered the package, and ran into said explorers after. They said they were exploring catacombs under Sandpoint, so I thought to come ask you if you know about such things - Mother." The kobold's eyes gleam as he pushes his smoked goggles up from his eyes. "This /could/ be the opportunity you keep telling Kuromein and I to watch for."

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Black Fang:
Karlimein is looking around the town hall for anyone he thinks might know about these catacombs the adventurers were talking about at Quink's place; failing that, he'll obnoxiously loiter a bit to irritate a few people, then duck out and trot to Madame Mvashti's place to ask her about it.

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein watches the others of the group as he walks along, trying to gauge how much trouble he's likely to get from each of them; at the town hall, he saunters right in, ignoring any irritated looks from other inhabitants of the town.

Overhearing Karlimein's words to his brother, Calathes resists the urge to make a comment about the two kobolds needing their mother's permission to go exploring...

Bluff to keep the smirk off his face, and not let the two kobolds know that he understood their language:1d20 + 2

EDIT: Ok, so I guess the smirk is pretty obvious...

Sense Motive, for kicks and because Karlimein is alwayus suspecting pinkskins of mocking him. 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

Karlimein directs a level look at Calathes in response to the smirk.

Draconic:
"You find something funny, there?"

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein presents another tooth-filled grin, and his tail lightly slaps the floor again. "Good. I hate having to skulk after people when there are more interesting things to investigate and poke around in." He sets down the object he'd been absently examining with his fingers, back into the space he'd picked it up from.

Draconic, to Kuromein:
"You should go tell 'Mother' that we've got some pinkskins to go explore with. I'll keep around them for now. I'm sure you can find us after."

Seeing Norhalo examine the ring, Brodert says, "Nothing nefarious, I assure you. It simply allows us to speak back and forth for a few seconds each day. I have a business associate in Magnimar who makes them for me." He winks.

Karlimein eyes the ring with a faintly greedy expression. "Nice bit of shiny there, that." He shifts to stare Norhalo in the eyes. "So, since you say you talk the most, and he thinks that makes you the leader - you say you 'get' why my brother and I want to do something. You gonna let us, or will we have to get ourselves in trouble and be sneaky to follow you?" Blunt and no sign of the usual kobold cowardice whatsoever in his voice. Must be the human upbringing. "I'm listening if you all want to vote or whatever, whether or not Kuro is."

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein doesn't bother trying to look wounded, instead poking around the shop with blithe disregard.

In Draconic:
To his brother, Karlimein directs a question. "So how did you get here? Did our adoptive mother send you to find me, or was it Desna's whim that led you this way, brother?"

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein spots his brother skulking in through the door and hisses quietly at him, hoping to keep him quiet; this bickering between the unscaled ones is too interesting to miss - although his attention does rather wander around the shop, as well.

Just peering around the shop out of curiosity. Possibly poking around a little if no one is really paying me any mind.

Norhalo laughs out loud. "Ha! Someone the townies like less than the likes of me! Well, then...Karlimein, is it?" He executes a florid and theatrical bow. "Honored to meet you. I am Norhalo of Varisia, sorcerer and amateur historian."

"You at least don't have scales. It might bias them in your favor by comparison." The kobold observes the bow, and responds with a light slap of his tail on the ground and a dip of his head. "I, as he said, am Karlimein, originally of the Rustscale tribe, but raised here in Sandpoint. I can do cartography as a trade, and explore by choice." He grins, which is a little unsettling given his predator-sharp teeth. "My brother, Kuromein, is much the same. We both look for a chance to do something greater than running errands and being accused of things we had nothing to do with."

Can I get a good enough look at the book to make an Appraisal check of my own?

Male Kobold Rogue 3
Norhalo wrote:

Grinning in response, Norhalo says, "I suppose we might be said to do 'interesting' things, if by that you mean putting ourselves in mortal peril for vague reasons. Ah, but I lie--our reasons were not that vague...eh, my friend?" He nudges Jaxom with an elbow and smiles. "Our exploration of the catacombs was driven by a desire to assist Mistress Ameiko Kaijutsu in her quest for...but that tale is hers to tell."

"Much more interesting than 'Karlimein, go deliver this package to Gorvi, dear." The kobold snorts derisively. "I can do cartography. I can do scouting and exploring. And," he pats the small sword slung at his side, "like I did when the goblins showed, I can fight, and so can my brother."

Issak Rialathel wrote:
"Though you certainly manage to cause enough trouble when you are spotted." Issak replies, but in a friendly tone.

"And that would be why I learned how not to be spotted, yes?" the kobold's voice has a faintly strained tone to it, underlying the amusement on the surface. "And all the more reason to poke my snout into this business of catacombs."

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein raises one scaled eyeridge as attention is drawn to him; unusually large and strong-looking for one of his kind, he completely lacks the usual air of cringing, cowardly suspicion popularly associated with them. "He," he says, indicating Norhalo, "was shouting about interesting things outside. Exploring catacombs. Thassilonian, right? You've told me they're the ones who built Old Light and other things." He gestures vaguely. "So I came to see what it was all about." He turns gleaming yellow eyes toward Norhalo, "Because delivering packages all the time is dull, and they look like they're the sort of people who do interesting things." Another glance, this to Issak, and what looks to be a grin. "And I'm sure you know how good I can be at checking places out without getting spotted, right?"

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein will indeed slip inside - this sounds far more interesting than either another chore from Madame Mvashti, and if there's exploring, scouting, or mapping to be done, he's doubly interested. He doesn't make any noise, and does his best to find a position to observe without being spotted.

It's not the first time he's snuck into Brodert's place to observe something - his unexpected appearance is probably almost old hat to the strange old man by now.

Male Kobold Rogue 3

Karlimein pauses, his head tilting in the very image of piqued curiosity as he catches the shouting. He's done with his delivery, and Madame Mvashti certainly didn't suggest he hurry back or anything... After a moment, he quietly heads toward the group, trying to remain unobserved. Best not to be seen just yet.

Going to try to sneak close enough to hear what's going on with the group.
