Glaring at Magan she hisses as she removes Isolde " Think before you bring someone around the child. She is young yet. Do not harm her more than needed." As she quickly rushes Isolde out of the cart and into the repair shop, doing her best to shield the young child from the sight of one of her parents murderers.
Kara sees Jowan go out of sight, and knowing that her friends may need help, she tries to give chase, while she would keep herself near Theli. She wasn't sure what Jowan stole, but she would not go out of sight of Theli, as she was unsure what all this was about.
Kara turns and strains, hoping to catch a glimpse of what Magan and Felix were chasing. She would answer depending on what she saw, but either way she would try to think how best to inform them of their new mission.
Kara grips his arm in the same fashion, grinning as she enjoyes the nice feeling of a strong male grip, knowing this far south it is a rare thing,
Even if he answers negative, Kara accepts it and goes out, explaining fully to Gawen the conditions and where the pirates stay, while suggesting they burn their ship first.
Thinking on her reply, she prays over the choice. It was clear that the pirates needed to be taken care of, but she also did not want to over commit the group to things they could no handle. They were small in number and they already had two jobs. A third may be foolish. But at the same time, 100 silver was much more money than they could afford to spare right now. She says after some more prayer and thought " The right thing is to ensure all commerce comes in swiftly for all. We shall snuff out the pirates, but you must be quick on the wagon work. And watch out for anything that seems unnormal with it."
Frowns at the man's description of her, and she moves her shoulders in an unconscious manner as those words gave her a funny feeling, like an itching on her back that needed to be scratched. She was not sure how the man knew of her, but she was tall enough to stand out, among the people here, even if she was of somewhat average height back home. She looks at him, before asking a few questions about the crew. " You understand that I am not alone in this venture? I doubt I could by myself handle a whole crew. What information do you have about their numbers and a location of the Waterfront, for I will need to speak with my team. If we could not do this, what is your rate? I can not accept something we may have to turn down and pay for without knowing the cost of failure." She says evenly, knowing they had Theli and the other two innocents with them in Branok and Isolde. It would be hard to manage all of this, but for them to continue she would if needed. She also did not wish to ask Theli for the money, even after her offer to pay, for the woman was a might touchy about things.
Frowning, as she was pretty sure outside of her group she knew no one here, she would come in to talk with the woodworker, curious as to why he wished to speak with her. She knew ships, not wagons.
Calmly places a hand on Theli's shoulder, and while she didnt understand Theli, she points to the wheels of the wagon, and then looks at the woman. She then calls out "Branok, can you explain to her that we still can not move far or swiftly with a broken axle? This is why I prefer horses or my own feet. Soft silly woman, she needs Freya in her life." She then pulls out her tome of Freya, and starts to read passages to Theli, pointing at them, if nothing else to try and teach the woman patience.
Harrumps before watching Magan and Felix run off to take care of business that she could not do. She understood the point of it, and yet, she could not bring herself to do. She looks at Theli and harrumphs again, thinking the woman was to scared for her own good
Sighs and tries in Saxon to get Theli to understand the danger of the other man " There are bad people after the small girl we carry with us. Stop drawing attention like a hare in a snare" She shakes her head at the silly woman who was more concerned with her ownself that others
Kara keeps a close watch on the group as she mutters darkly about murderers and other lowlife thieving people who need Freya's glory brought to them. It seems the paladin was in a mood over how long they had taken, and now she didnt even get to have fun with that man who Magan and Felix swore was at that camp.
Kara scowls at Magan, but accepts his words, for they did ring true. She may have felt uncomfortable but she still knew better than to argue with the party leader. Besides, they needed to get moving before another attempt was made on Theli life. She motions for the woman to set up on the wagon and makes sure everyone else is ready. This city didnt sit well with the tall woman.
Kara stands guard near Theli, and shakes her head. She then asks Magan in Saxon, " And yet she tries to buy us for less than we are worth? I would not say this money is gotten through honorable means. This seems wrong, and should go to the temple." Kara wasnt normally bothered by where her payment came from, but this smelled of dishonesty, and that wasn't something Freya approved off.
Kara watches the two lads with a good bit of distrust, and would ask Felix to check out the trunk before anyone else. She may not be Freyas smartest paladin, but she could see a setup when presented. Though now at 12 silver, that could go a long way for some poor soul needing Freyas guidance
Kara glares at the woman and calls for Magan. This was not just an attempt on her life, someone wanted it to be seen as a poor accident. This meant it was more than told the wrong man no. This was worse. " Magan, I am thinking we should see a good amount of payment upon this. Whoever is trying to kill this woman, deserved or not is going to great pains to make it looks like not them. Did she say who would want her dead? An unknown enemy is harder to fight. Let us find Gawen and begone this place" She said this in Saxon, as she wasnt sure how many people around here knew or understood it.
Kara tries her best to avoid the puddle
Kara shifts uneasy. She swore she saw something, and would shift her shield from her back to be ready to bring it up. She then points out the corner to Theli, unsure how much the girl understood Saxon, and says " I feel we are not alone. That corner is cursed. Let us leave this place." After a second thought, she calls down to Magan, " Old man, we may have guest. Would you like to visit them?" The phrase seems innocent enough, but anyone who had seen fighting would know it was a warning. After all Magan told her and the experiance with the hounds of Hel, she didnt trust this wasnt either a trap, or they were being stalked.
Frowned and looked grim over what she was told, but at the end of it she tells him " It may not have been the best choice as we do not know much of the nature of her enemies, but I shall see to it she survives. I will go with her to gather her things, some of it may be of a personally nature. But I would not be far either Magan. This doesnt seem exactly proper." Something about it was bothering her, and it may just be because of the woman's looks, but she felt uneasy. She would however accompany the woman, even without a shared language. Protecting people didnt mean you had to speak the same tongue
Kara looks back and forth between Magan and the girl, and shifts her shield uneasily. She had no idea the conversation, but enough words sounded similar to others that she though they were either speaking of something dead, or something about bread needing to be delivered by the next sunrise. Neither made sense coming from such a slight woman.
Kara grimaces and looks guilty as charged. While she felt they needed to get rid of that bandit, she had forgotten the main goal, and that was seeing this through to the end. It was a hard life for a paladin, trying to do everything correctly. She nods however, and says lowly " It is bad when the criminal reminds you what you need to do."
Kara listens to Magan's words, but as ill feeling as she had when fighting the hounds, she felt even more they had bypassed an evil they should have stopped. Cowenna's words echoing, she tells Magan privately about her feelings on the matter.
Kara looks and her before grinning widely, accepting the raven back from Cowenna. She then clasps arms again, before saying " Thank you Elder. May Freya guide all your merriment to good endings. I shall let you sleep now." She then would walk back to her room to think over what she was informed of, and to rest, unless interrupted by something.
Kara nods sagely, thinking over the words. It does seem they needed to go back and finish that. And perhaps even figure out what that bandit leader was hunting. This however would have to wait until morning. " Well, I suppose we must do so. I shall keep the raven on me then. If you were not so blind, I would ask if you wished to assist in this defense of Freya's honor. For surely Hel herself is involved."
Kara eyes the old woman, stopping her before she opened the other bottle. This was no time to muddle their senses, and she did share with Conwenna. However, as they passed the bottle, she was confused for a second. Touched by divine power? Then it needs protecting... and the girl. She thinks best how to word it before asking " Elder who has traveled many paths, what would cause a bandit group to seek out such an object? For the bandit party we ran into I think was looking for similar items." After another swig of good mead she would then sigh and say " I feel our little friend needs to speak with you. It was her house if I recall correctly that held the raven. And who should touch it? Should we return it to the place found? Or should we keep it as a sign from Odin? If so I shall keep it. It has brought me luck so far."
Kara helps the older woman to the room, making causal conversation about how it was nice to finally have good conversation. She was surprised by the movements with the key, and felt some of the drunk was an act, and knew it may be for the best it was kept that way. However, when the mead was passed, she looks at it, looks back to Conwenna, and states " We might need more mead." before opening and sampling.
Kara grasps the forearm back, happy to speak with a fellow follower. It had been too long it felt to her since she had, and she was not going to waste the chance before her.
Kara blinks, then laughs as well. Merriment was to be shared, and she retorts " And old blind women should not wander around at night, or the wolf will devour them whole. I am Kara, warrior in service to Freya, from up by the north sea." She then stands up and comes to check on the woman, making sure she had not broken anything, and giving her a steady place to rest on.
Kara jerks awake, groping around for weapons that where not there, as she had left them all bundled with her armor out of respect for the temple at the foot of her bed. She peers into the darkness, her vision unfettered by the darkness. She secures her hand on her sword before calling out " Who disturbs the peace of the temple at this hour?" She wasn't exactly clothed to fight anyone, as she was just in a night gown, but she would give it her best shot.
Retires to her area for the night, awaiting the priestess for further instruction in how to best service Freya, and thinking on her journey so far. She felt there was areas where they had missed, and she thought maybe they should go back, as bandits where to not be tolerated. But she also didnt know the laws well of this land, so she couldnt make that call. Perhaps in time her journey will give a better idea.
Having had a few dealings with men from Rome, and unfamiliar so far with how it affected the area, asks rather bluntly, " May I ask why men from Rome cause such concern in this area? The only stories I ever heard was they were weak men who could be distracted with a few coins and women, and the women could be from another tribe."
Kara was busy changing into more comfortable clothing in the other room to hear any of what the Goði was speaking on, the clanging of her armor coming off very clearly heard. It had been a long time since she had truly taken off all her armoring, and so for a few minutes she would relax in the relative comfort, before looking in her pack for suitable clothing. She would dress herself in a modest dress, nothing overly revealing, but also did not manage to hide she was somewhat well built. Maybe a bit thin, but she had some curves.
Smiles up at the old priest, happy to hear someone who could help her out. She nods to him and says " Thank you for all the kindness you have shown us. Do you have an area that I may change? It would be nice to not wear armor for a few hours. I will await Gyðja there if it is okay. "
Kara looks at the man, with a face that reminded her of simpler times, playing in the temple, seeing the old men talk and discuss this sign or that. It felt more like normal fjord life to her. She sighs, missing those times slightly before venturing forward with the old priest. As he addresses her, her voice lacks the normal joking tone she has with her companions, using a clearly more respectful tone.
Kara blinks at Felix request. That was a quick request to stay somewhere in this unsafe city. She frowns at him and asks " Are you saying you are not an honourable man? Why would you pay for lodging when you did not have to? I hope they have a priestess here, maybe even a priestess of Freya." After a few more seconds she also states, more to the group than anyone, " I would suggest you all pray to your patron. We have been blessed by Freya, and cursed by the hounds of Hel. I would say some prayer and thanks would not be amiss, before you get lost in this... place." The way she said place made it obvious her dislike of the city. However, she would follow into the temple, hoping to find a priestess of Freya
Kara seems a bit uneasy as they go into the bigger cities. They were smelly, loud, and not everyone understood the gods roles in their lives. She would hold a bit tighter to her shield, the symbol of Freya proudly displayed for others to see. However, upon reaching the temple with a temple that seems to be dedicated to Odin. Not exactly Freya, but close. She would speak up, a bit unsure of her companions and how they would take to spending time in a temple, " Branok, is this the best place for our companions? I doubt many young females are here, and after Magan was mauled by that dog, I'm sure his new wounds will earn him a nice bed or two." She sounded doubtful her companion would keep the peace of the temple for long.
Kara tries to hide her grin from Felix as he rides along, her mirth somewhat obvious. Once he was a few yards ahead of the group she would start to laugh, holding her sides. She would mention to the rest gathered "Did you not grow up hearing stories of this? Or did you get told stories of flowers and puppies? How can one question the god's will? They are dead and we are not." This of course comes from one who had her share of battles, and knew what happened when one angered the gods. Maybe Felix will find some faith, or at least some good mead.
Kara blinks and with a puzzled look glances over at Branok, before turning to fully talk to Felix. She grew up with the Church of Freya, and so stories and proof of otherworldly excursions into this world where not new to her. She was even amused by Felix's outburst, and she simply states " It is Freya's will. Hel tested us with her hounds, and we were found worthy by Freya to win. Soon we must give thanks and a sacrifice to Freya to continue our good luck. Surely you know better, have you never felt a god's touch in your life? That will make a great story one day. Defeating soldiers of Hel, living to tell of the battle. How many do you know can make that claim? We are destined to be champions of Freya." She then starts to nod sagely, thinking of the glory she will receive in the afterlife.
Travels along side on a horse, her armor clanking and clinking as she rambles along. She stares off, pondering the changes she was seeing in the world. Otherworldly beast ventured into their world on occasion, but nothing like this. This is a new thing, a new boldness. She would wonder out loud " I think Freya is trying to show us a sign. We should try to figure out what this means. Hel doesnt just send her hounds after just anyone. We were targeted."
Kara pokes Magan with the butt of her spear, saying " You are old and feeble it seems, letting a dog get to you. Climb up and have Branok patch you up while we ride." She was tenderly poking him in the ribs, trying to provoke him into some action
Kara starts to laugh and shake her head as the battle seems to be over. " That was thrilling! Magan, I did not know you had such surprises for us in this trip." She then glances about, to assess her companions states.
Kara moves in to try and flank the final creature, stabbing at it with her spear.
Takes a swing at the one near her, hoping to end this fight swiftly to assist her companions better.
Kara quickly scrambles over to the side of the wagon, putting herself between Isolde and the closet creature. Drawing out her longspear, she attempts to stab it from her position, hoping for a good hit.
Kara frowns. A murder of crows is never a good sign, no matter who you are. She feels her axe under her fingertips and draws it out, more as a precaution than any true ill intent. She notices Prasutagus dropping back closer to them, but not knowing what he said she couldnt respond, but did the general I've got a bad feeling about this hand motion.
Having finished up with Isolde, she would join the others outside, having take some of the breakfast to go in a cup for her and the young girl. Kara laughs as Magan's obvious impatience, and states " Magan, being clean is important for your health. Freya knows that if you do not cleanse your body, you will repeal any women you came across, gold or not" After that gentle ribbing she helps the girl up onto the wagon, and then sets herself up, saying a prayer of protection over Isolde.
Finally, as Felix awake from his slumber, she asks the group " I am unsure how much further to our next stop, does everyone have what they need for a stay on the ground?"
Comes out of the room, not fully dressed in her armor, but would check with the innkeeper about water to bath. After a positive answer and taking time to gather the appropretiate supplies, she would then help Isolde bathe and would wash up herself before coming out fully dressed in her armor, with her shield and sword strapped to her back. " I think we should be on the way, but can someone find Felix? Anyone check the local gaol?"
Snorts as she sips her mead daintily, the contrasting actions sharp against each other. " Bletius could be Loki for all we know. He is not always a bad fellow, but he is a trickster. I for one would not ever say me and Gawen would make an alliance, and yet here we are. Maybe Freya has a plan for us in all this."
Counts out her coins as best she can as she carries the girl. After making sure her math was right, she nods to Branok. " I have enough. I take that covers food as well? They must be well off here." But after settling her account with the surly man, and ensuring that Isolde and Branok where taken care of, Kara would join Felix and Gawen. She would quietly listen to them talk, happy to not be moving.
Kara laughs softly as Pen brings a shoe back, telling him " If you took that from an old man give it back to him" and then nods to Branok, gently picking up the young girl. " Father, the trip is a long one. Why do we not rest inside? You and Isolde could use the rest. She has big days ahead." She would then carry the girl inside, her shield and other weapons secured on her back as she procures sleeping quarters for her and the young girl, along with Branok. She does make sure she and Isolde have a private room.
After helping Branok with the horses and the sleeping Isolde, she looks around for Pen, making sure he has not ran off and brought more hungry bandits with him. She calls out " Pen, where are you boy?"
