About Justsomethingelseignore
Jean was born in Magnimar, into a poor family with too many mouths to feed. He had 2 brothers and 5 sisters, his mother would stay at home to take care of them while his father would work as a fisherman to try and keep his family fed. Being the youngest his family would try and shield him from the poverty that they lived in, but his position in life was made drastically clear when he began school.
At first he flourished, taking to books like a fish to water. Unfortunately, his classmates and teachers made it blindingly clear how they felt about someone of his station. Jean was often bullied by his peers, and his teachers would mark him down or claim he was cheating. He was even able to cast his first spell at the tender age of 8, but instead of being celebrated he was punished for it by his teachers, who were too proud to see the potential sitting in front of them.
Soon Jean began devoting his time to learning trades that would be useful on the streets, one's he could advertise to get a job quickly upon graduating, and spent less time on his spell work. When the end of his time in schooling loomed he thought he knew exactly how it would go. Jean would be named bottom of the class, no one would want to hire him from his educational record, and he would have to work his way up in some menial job.
Fate had other plans. The day before graduation the owner of the school came to have a look at the soon to be leaving students, and he saw something in Jean. The owner was none other than Sir Alexander Debonair, the famous author who made his fortune off the backs of his book detailing his many adventures. unbeknownst to most though, was that Alexander was not the one performing the actions within the books. He had been stealing the credit and then killing the actual adventures. But rumours had began to surface that maybe Sir Alexander wasn't what he claimed to be, and so he felt it time to bring a witness along and actually be a hero for once.
And in Jean he saw this witness, and so much more. Alexander would pull Jean up from the gutter, and Jean would come to worship him. He would get his own willing slave for almost no effort, solidify his position in Magnimar, and ease his conscious all in one go. As well as this, he could see the potential lying in Jean, and believed it would make him more likely to survive an adventure. And so he plucked Jean out of the school before graduation and they set off.
For 10 years they travelled around Varisia, with Jean scribing their adventures and Alexander selling them. Some of their most popular works included 'The Scandal of the Scarlet Sorceress', 'The Crimson Chimera of Cheliax' and Alexander's Autobiography 'Magnificent Me'. Surprisingly, their best seller was also banned from shops for being too graphic; 'Into the Lair of the Succubus Sisters'. They kept going like this until one day Alexander heard tell of a group of 3 adventures travelling to stop the resurrection of the Runelord of Greed, Karzoug.
Alexander planned to join the group near the end of their journey and become its leader, therefore gaining all the prestige for a pittance of the work. And so they set off, and caught up the party just as they were entering a strange portal. The group seemed to have lost a member since they were last seen, and know consisted of a female Paladin with dark red hair known as Katelyn and an extremely foul tempered Undine Druid called Nyva, with her Sphinx companion. Jean expected them to be ecstatic to be gaining the help of THE Alexander Debonair, but instead they seemed to treat him as some sort of nuisance, and it soon become evident why.
As they made their way through the portal, into a place known as the Runeforge, Jean began to see people that could stand toe to toe with Sir Alexander, and in some cases even look down on him. In all of their previous travels together Jean had had no one to compare him to, but now he was seeing that other people could be as strong as his master. They finished their business inside the Runeforge and began to make their way to their final destination; Karzoug's own city, Xin-Shalast.
Upon reaching it a climactic battle ensued, and witnessing it only impressed further onto Jean that maybe he didn't have to live in Alexander's shadow all his life. Maybe one day he could look him in the eyes, not as a servant but as an equal. And so, having completed their journey and published their latest book Jean bid farewell to Alexander and set off to forge his own path. And what a better place to begin then in the world's largest city; Absalom.
