Can you move for me, DM? I have to get to work and won't be able to participate for another 12 hours.

Joneth’s death strike doesn’t quite live up to its name as he misses Dagon by inches.

Eagerly awaiting !

Liberty's Edge

JZ here. Joneth my a paladin character whose seen his share of TPKs and disappeared adventures. Here he is, recast as an avenger, and about thirty years older.

Liberty's Edge

Would anyone mind if I took over from Dr. Dark for a bit? For the next couple encounters, at least.

Liberty's Edge

In the morning Joneth is deep in prayer, worshiping the rising sun that he cannot see. Kneeling in his armor, his legs hurt greatly which does not mind at all. He welcomes the pain and believes it helps cleanse his soul.

Oh Darkness, where art thou?

Liberty's Edge

Joneth seems hardly relaxed, and does not remove his armor. Even sleeps while sitting, with his hand on his sword hilt.

Liberty's Edge

The paladin's eyes flash with annoyance.

"Preparation is essential, yes. But we cannot wait so long that they leave. Or worse, discover and attack us."

Liberty's Edge

"Not to worry, Koryn, to go against the wish of the majority is something I will not do. Now w e must find somewhere defensible to rest."

Liberty's Edge

Joneth crosses his arms with a reserved expression, obviously displeased with the party's caution in dealing with the cultists. But he remains respectfully silent.

Liberty's Edge

Joneth backs out of the room and closes the doors slowly.

"I say we attack them now while we have the initiative. If we rest in these warrens, they are likely to find us, and then they would have the upper hand."

Liberty's Edge

Will 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

Liberty's Edge

Foolhardily, Joneth grasps the brass handles and attempts to throw the doors open.

Liberty's Edge

Sword in hand, Joneth advances down the sinister hallway.

Liberty's Edge

"Ah, I see. Then by all means, brother."

Liberty's Edge

"Koryn, I fear that the evil before us is far too crafty to be blinded by such a spell."

Liberty's Edge

The paladin jabs a finger in the direction of the marbled tunnel.

"That way lies great evil! As I've never encountered before!"

Liberty's Edge

Joneth wipes his blade against the hide of the beast he felled.

"I think we're all fine, Mouse. Well done, my friends."

Liberty's Edge

The paladin presses the attack on the beast he had injured.

Attack 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Damage 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Liberty's Edge

We're rolling initiative for every round?

Liberty's Edge

Joneth charges forward slashing.

"Twisted beasts of evil, feel the cleansing blade of Muir!"

Attack 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
Damage 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Liberty's Edge

Init 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21

Liberty's Edge

Can we see any other exits from this cavern?

Liberty's Edge

"Goodness, Num-Rah. Could another one of your kind be down here as well?"

Liberty's Edge

"Deeper and deeper we go," says Joneth, his voice strained with anxiety. "Where will this stream lead us? Does it join the River Styx itself with Hades on the other shore?"

Liberty's Edge

"Yes, let's follow the stream. And perhaps we will end up behind the enemy ..."

Liberty's Edge

The paladin enters the cavern warily.

"Hmmm. The question is, which way would the enemy expect us to go?"

Liberty's Edge

Joneth quickly exits the room, gasping for fresh air.

"What of the smell, Koryn? Nay, the only place I dare rest is above ground. Let's go down the other hall, shall we?"

Liberty's Edge

"The villains wish to intimidate us with a pile of bones and cards. Bah! They can do nothing to escape the bladed judgment of justice!"

The paladin pushes the secret door open.

Liberty's Edge

"We encountered an undead skeleton in the mausoleum. I'll take no chances with this one."

Joneth brings his gleaming sword down on the skeleton's skull.

Liberty's Edge

Joneth follows Marcus in.

"I smell fresh air. Have we happened upon an exit?"

Liberty's Edge

Let's go that way then (I hope no one objects.) Thanks!

Liberty's Edge

Come think of it, there are lots of other entrances back at the surface: the old well, the bricked up tunnel.

Liberty's Edge

"This doesn't make any sense," muses Joneth. "The hideous smell must be coming from someplace. This tunnel must lead to somewhere the enemy seeks to protect."

Joneth bows apologetically to the disinterred corpse. He then tries to push the coffin aside, hoping to find a trapdoor or portal underneath.
