1 person marked this as a favorite.

Ok, my husband has Stage IV colon cancer. I am terrified and super needy right now, hence the attention-seeking headline. We are not giving up. He's ready to fight and we're going to throw everything at this thing.

Do you have a survivor story? Do you have deliscious high protein, vegetarian recipes I can make for him? Do you have a good joke?

I need to make some changes in the budget. Thanks for all of the great stuff, but please cancel my Campaign Setting subscription.

Liberty's Edge

I received Irrsisen Land of Eternal Winter in last month's subscription shipment. Pages 3 through 20 have completely detached and fallen out of the book. The remaining pages are soon to follow. This is the first time I've had this kind of problem with any Pathfinder book.

What are my options?

Sorry, but I have to readjust the budget a bit. Please cancel my Pathfinder Modules subscription.

I've been reading some threads about megadungeons and would like to expand my collection. I've got a subscription to Slumbering Tsar and I have copies of World's Largest Dungeon and Undermountain. What other great megadungeons are out there? Please recommend for any game system and, if it's not too much trouble, let me know where I can find a PDF copy.

Thanks

After reviewing next year's budget, I've concluded I need to cancel all of my Paizo subscriptions. Thanks for all of the great stuff.

I am running a play-by-post Ptolus campaign. Ptolus is a metropolis designed by the one and only Monte Cook. It is a setting for urban adventures and dungeon crawls. If you are interested, please download the “Ptolus Player’s Guide” from drivethrurpg or rpgnow. It is a free PDF and I believe you will find it an entertaining read.

I am currently recruiting 1 rogue and 1 arcane spellcaster of any type.

The game specifics are as follows:
Rules system: Pathfinder Beta
Classes and Races: Base classes and races as described in the Player’s Handbook and the Ptolus Player’s Guide.
Starting level: 1 (halfway to 2)
Character stats: Roll 4d6, drop the lowest die. Repeat 7 times and use the best 6 scores for stats. Arrange as desired.
Dice rolling: honor system
Starting Gold: Maximum for character type
Posting schedule: Please be able to post at least 3 times per week

The ground rules:
1. Heroes only need apply. No evil characters will be accepted into the campaign.
2. Please keep the atmosphere PG-13.
3. Please maintain a reasonable moral high ground. PCs are not expected to be paragons of virtue, but activities such as slaughtering innocents, torturing prisoners or just general reveling in the suffering of others are not acceptable in my campaign. This is not a moral judgment, nor do I believe that people who role-play dark themes are bad people, but it is not appropriate for my campaign.
4. You may cut loose a little, though. Some times the unarmed bad guy does need to be punched in the face. Some times the rouge just can’t resist the temptation to steal a purse from a wealthy merchant. These are acceptable behaviors in moderation.
5. Please play a character who is willing to cooperate with others in the party.
6. This will be a role-play heavy, combat light campaign. This does not mean you need to write a dissertation for each post. Combat is always awkward in a play-by-post format, so there will be less of it than you might expect for a face-to-face game. Experience points will be based on story accomplishments.
7. Expect about 75% urban adventure.
8. The quality of your role-playing will not be judged based on grammar, spelling, punctuation or general language usage. I understand that not everyone here is a native English-speaker. That said, please make your best effort to communicate clearly.
9. Some handouts will be provided, but visual aids will be minimal. I just don’t know how to make and link maps so until I figure it out, I want you to be fully aware that visual aids will be scarce.
10. I am going to be using a lot of published Ptolus material. If you are familiar with Ptolus and have read “DM-only” information, please let me know. I expect we can work something out. You are still welcome in the campaign as long as your OOC knowledge does not impede anyone else’s fun.
11. Role-play and skill tasks can be accomplished in one of two ways: dice or text. For example, if you PC is gathering information, you may roll a gather information check or you may write-out and role-play the process of questioning three tavern-goers. Either method is acceptable.

My pledge to the players:
1. If you are generous enough with your time to contribute to the game, I promise to be open-minded and flexible in allowing you to play the character you want to play as long as you do not violate rules 1 and 3.
2. I understand that your character is a unique individual with his/her own goals, motivations, dreams and ideas.
3. I will not, under any circumstances, include a “DM PC” in the party. Your characters are the heroes and the focal point of the story.
4. Please feel free to explore the City. It is an interesting place with lots of organizations and PCs. I will listen to your interests and adjust the campaign accordingly.

Please let me know if you are interested, and feel free to read the JollyRoger Ptolus campaign thread in the Play-by-Post section.

I started my Pathfinder Chronicles subscription with the Guide to Absalom (which was awesome). The next item I got was the Dragons Revisited a couple of months later. It looks like my subscription skipped the Second Darkness Map Folio. The item never cam and I was never charged for it. Is this item part of the subscription?

Human Engineer 5

Kingsday, 2nd of Newyear, Year 721 of the Imperial Age

A biting wind whistles through the streets of Ptolus. It is an hour ‘til sunset in Midtown and the streets are still bustling with workers going about their business. Shops and taverns are full, even if only because so many want to take a few minutes break from the chill. The sky is overcast and cold rain drizzles on those unfortunate enough to be outdoors. Still, a fresh rain will at least wash away some of the stench of sewage and sweat that so often permeates the crowded streets of Midtown. Hats are pulled down over ears and hands are thrust firmly in cloak pockets.

You are finishing your day’s business and perhaps considering a goblet of ale or a mug of hot cider at one of the taverns, such as the Ghostly Minstrel. As you wander the streets, you see the standard corner performers setting up for their nightly talent show. The jugglers are blowing on their ice, cold hands to get blood moving through their fingers again.

Earlier in the day…

Aerian:

Spoiler:
Sir Garett Deraul asks you to meet him in his office. “Ah, Aerian my boy, good to see you, sit down, sit down.” As you sit, Deraul pours each of you a mug of Prustan tea. It has a spicy, almost fruity scent that would seem foreign in these parts, but you are used to Deraul’s unusual tastes.

“I need you to poke your nose into some potentially dangerous business. There is a master thief in town called Shilukar. I have some concerns about him being more than just a simple cat burglar, but I don’t want to influence your judgment on that. Head over to Midtown and listen around. See if you can pick up any chatter about this Shilukar. Be discreet. He’s likely to be extremely dangerous. Don’t go looking for him yourself. If you get any information, bring it back to me. Be careful, my boy.”

Gallows:

Spoiler:
A courier approaches you and hands you a note from Father Davrel. He asks you to visit him in his office as soon as possible. You waste no time answering his summons.
You find Davrel pouring over ancient and dusty tomes, with scribbled notes on parchment surrounding his workplace. For a man usually so meticulous, his current state is practically chaos. He raises a finger as you step into his office, “One minute, Gallows.”

“Sorry about that,” he says, “I’ll get right to the point.” He always does. You look into the Dwarf’s brown eyes that have never held for you the slightest shred of pity, but now that you are wiser, you see the presence of friendship and deep respect. Today though, you also notice lines of worry creasing his face.

“I’m interested in birthmarks, Gallows. Specifically birthmarks that take the shape of arcane runes. Such a thing is the stuff of myth and legend, but I’ve been hearing recent claims of children born with such marks. I won’t tell you more right now, as I don’t want to bias your judgment. Sorry to be so mysterious. Do me a favor though. For the next couple of days, do some discreet investigating. Just bring up the subject here and there, see if anyone looks at you funny or says anything.” He offers a wry grin, “Of course, people always look at you funny, so I’m not sure how you’ll tell the difference, but you’ll think of something. Anyway, head over to Midtown tonight and have some ale. See what pops up.

Back to now…

Street vendors are still hawking their wares. Carts are set up with fruits and reasonably fresh vegetables for sale for a few coppers. A dwarf is haggling with a merchant over spinach and carrots. Another street vendor is just setting up shop to sell mulled cider. You can smell a hint of cinnamon as his cauldron begins to heat up. Hurrying parents are pulling along curious children in an effort to get home and fix dinner before their spouse gets home from work.

All in all, its just your average day in Ptolus…

Human Engineer 5

This thread will host the out-of-character discussion for my Ptolus campaign. For those of you not familiar with Ptolus, it is a campaign setting invented by Monte Cook. A free Player's Guide is available in PDF form from drivethrurpg or rpgnow.

The cast of characters:
Yarag the human fighter played by French Wolf
Aerian the human rogue played by Steve Geddes
Zilroy Specterbane the human cleric played by Hogarth
Tusker Tall the half-orc druid played by Shisumo
Hintal the gnome sorcerer played by Sleepy

Dryder, James Keegan and Tiger Dave will also be joining the cast in to-be-announced roles.

Gentlemen, please post your characters here and we will discuss the specifics of your background. I hope you all have fun. The first game post will be posted by Friday, February 20, 2009.

Cheers,
-JR

The ground rules:

If you have had the patience to read all of this and are still interested, please respond to this post. Also, please include answers to the following questions:

1. Where do you fall on a scale of 1 to 5, on sandbox vs. directed play? (A ‘1’ indicates that you prefer entirely sandbox play where your character does whatever he/she pleases on your whims and ‘5’ indicates that you want to follow a well defined, set in advance adventure path.)

2. Which of the following ridiculously exaggerated statements best applies to you?
a. I am Sun Tzu, master of the art of war. I want to direct every aspect of combat.
b. I want to role-play every aspect of my character’s day including meals, haggling with merchants for rope and iron spikes, and my morning shower.
c. I am a spy-master and must have constant intrigue. I want to look over my shoulder, never know who my friends are and always be ready for the next betrayal.
d. My intelligence is 25 and I need to constantly be challenged with increasingly difficult mental puzzles and riddles.
e. I just want to kill things and take their stuff.

3. Anything else you’d like for me to consider.

Thanks for considering my Ptolus campaign. If I haven’t scared off everyone, please respond to this post and I will collect six players to start the game.

Liberty's Edge

My packing slip for order 1115488 indicates that I recieved Pathfinder 8, 9 and 10 and the Curse of the Crimson Throne Player's Guide. However, the Player's Guide was not in the box. I propose one of two solutions:

1) Credit my account with the $1.70
2) Throw a CotCT Player's Guide in my next monthly shipment

Whichever is easier on your end works for me. Thanks for the help,
JR

Hey gang,

I bought this last night and read through most of it. I really like the new magazine and hope to see it in print soon. I left a review on the main product page.

I'm curious about others' thoughts. Any one else try this out? There are a few areas that need improvement but $4 for 100 pages (no ads btw) I think is pretty good. For me it was money well spent.

I think my players will really enjoy the "Temple of the Necromancer". We will all get good use out of the character background article. Oh, and the recipe page was an interesting feature.
