Male Human (Dragonblood)
John will spend his downtime doing 'Off-Hours Study'.
Male Human (Dragonblood)
In that case, I will make Siraya's design my top pick.
Male Human (Dragonblood)
John nods in satisfaction, letting out a sigh of relief when the final foe falls.
Thoughts: The Matriarch's design was thematic, but would have given a *very* bumpy ride. The winter wolf's one would have been difficult to scale-up to an actual *train*. Firozet's design was interesting, but I feel relying upon fire elementals in a land of ice and snow would be problematic. I find the dwarf's design hilarious, but I am nervous about the fact that it is rocket-propelled... the possibility of it just going 'BOOOM!' worries me, although I suppose it would be no less dangerous than an actual steam train, and is actually the closest to the source material.
Ultimately, I suppose the most practical choices (to me at least) would be Surkzin's planar-portal-based design, or Siraya's 'adaptable' design... although I could be convinced to support the dwarf's design if the rest of the party preferred it.
Male Human (Dragonblood)
John grits his teeth, Steps back, and throws another volley of needles at Green.
Needle Darts(AC): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24, for 4d4 ⇒ (3, 2, 4, 4) = 13 Cold Iron Piercing damage.
Male Human (Dragonblood)
John narrows his eyes, Steps back, and throws more darts, this time at Green.
Needle Darts(AC): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13, for 4d4 ⇒ (2, 1, 2, 2) = 7 Cold Iron Piercing damage.
Male Human (Dragonblood)
John Strides, and takes a pot-shot at Blue.
Needle Darts(AC): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29, for 4d4 ⇒ (4, 2, 4, 2) = 12*2 = 24 Cold Iron Piercing damage, and 2 Persistent Bleed.
Male Human (Dragonblood)
Oh! I thought there was a pillar in the way. I targeted Green purely because I thought it was the only one I had an unobstructed line of sight on. In that case, yes! Please target Red :-)
Male Human (Dragonblood)
Battle Medicine (DC 20): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26, for 2d8 + 10 ⇒ (3, 5) + 10 = 18 Healing.
After applying a field-patch to his wounds, John tosses some needles at Green.
Needle Darts(AC): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16, for 4d4 ⇒ (2, 2, 4, 2) = 10 Cold Iron Piercing damage.
Male Human (Dragonblood)
Fort: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20.
Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6.
Reflex, HP: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11.
John resists the curse, but narrowly avoids being turned into a popsicle.
Male Human (Dragonblood)
"Much obliged for admitting your guilt," John notes dryly.
He then tosses some cold iron needles at witch.
Needle Darts(AC): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29, for 4d4 ⇒ (4, 3, 2, 3) = 12*2 = 24 Cold Iron Piercing damage + 2 Persistent Bleed.
He then attempts to ID her.
Society: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20.
Male Human (Dragonblood)
John goes off on a lengthy technical explanation regarding the amulet, the necromantic energy that it channeled to animate the crow swarms, and the way that it is completely unlike the energies underpinning the hobgoblin's train... but notes that grafting giant chicken legs onto trains *does* have necromantic overtones.
Religion: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18.
Male Human (Dragonblood)
"Moreover, the twigjack who... 'led them astray'... was themselves the pawn of another, greater power... somehow related to this amulet," he says, proffering the necromantic relic that the twigjack wore. "I do not suppose anyone recognises it?"
Male Human (Dragonblood)
John does not particular care for the goblins, but that is just a personal preference. If they wish to express contrition for their actions, and attempt to build rapport with the Queen, I see no reason not to let them do so!
"I guess they are coming back with us?"
Male Human (Dragonblood)
John cautiously moves to inspect the trains for damage, relying on those more skilled in diplomacy to actually calm the goblins.
Male Human (Dragonblood)
John Strides away from the crows, and vomits another, weaker, gout of flame at them.
Breathe Fire (15' cone AoE): 2d6 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8 Fire damage. DC 19 Reflex.
Male Human (Dragonblood)
Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16.
John curses as he bleeds from numerous small scratches.
Male Human (Dragonblood)
John Strides forward, and calling upon his draconic ancestor, vomits a great gout of fire at Blue and Yellow!
Breathe Fire (15' cone AoE): 4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 4, 5) = 15 Fire damage. DC 19 Reflex.
Male Human (Dragonblood)
John attempts to rationally convince the goblins that the twigjack is not the most dependable of leiges.
"Really, you want someone powerful and rational to lead you - not someone maladjusted and prone to explosions of rage that are likely to get you killed."
Male Human (Dragonblood)
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27.
John likewise notices the creature touching the amulet.
He cogitates for a bit.
Nature - RK to ID the creature: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22.
Does the amulet look like a holy symbol, or something else?
Male Human (Dragonblood)
"King or not, theft is still theft. We respectfully request that you return that which your subjects stole. We would not want an international incident to develop, after all."
Male Human (Dragonblood)
With the snake now clearly visible, John attempts to fry it again.
Concealment: 1d20 ⇒ 17.
Ignition(AC): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24, for 3d4 ⇒ (2, 3, 2) = 7 Fire damage.
Male Human (Dragonblood)
John tosses some icicles at Blue...
Concealment: 1d20 ⇒ 1.
Ignition(AC): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24, for 3d4 ⇒ (2, 2, 2) = 6 Cold damage.
...and misses.
Male Human (Dragonblood)
John attempts to blast Blue.
Concealment: 1d20 ⇒ 19.
Ignition(Amp): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17, for 2d10 ⇒ (4, 10) = 14 Fire damage, and 1 Fire Splash damage.
Male Human (Dragonblood)
John winces, and grumbles under his breath.
"I'm a researcher, not a wilderness-lover..."
Nonetheless, he gamely follows along.
Male Human (Dragonblood)
Arcana: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15.
John manages to shut down the trap.
Male Human (Dragonblood)
John attempts to deactivate the trap.
Arcana: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18.
Male Human (Dragonblood)
Society: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24.
John readily identifies which games are important.
Male Human (Dragonblood)
John instantly dives for the jewelled egg...
Thievery: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (18) + 0 = 18.
...surprising even himself when he stops it from hitting the ground.
Male Human (Dragonblood)
John shakes his head at Redcap's disapproval.
"That is not quite what I meant - Irrisen is a multi-species-dominant society, and out of the major groups thus far not represented in this endeavor, we only have the trolls and goblins left - the former were more like to go on a rampage, whilst the latter were more likely to try something tricky."
John looks around the icy corridor, and attempts to pick the least-slippery way forward.
Nature: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20.
Male Human (Dragonblood)
John clicks his tongue, and wrinkles his nose in disgust.
"Of course it was goblins. It had to be, didn't it?"
Male Human (Dragonblood)
John attempts to untangle the magical theory underpinning the train's operation.
Arcana: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18.
Male Human (Dragonblood)
John Dee happily expounds upon his knowledge of witchwargs.
Nature: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23.
...the fact that he knows a fair bit about them is probably a little concerning!
Male Human (Dragonblood)
Starting tomorrow morning (local time), I will likely be without internet access for the weekend. Please bot me as required.
Male Human (Dragonblood)
John greets her politely in the Fey language, and then attempts to say something witty.
Nature: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21.
Male Human (Dragonblood)
"Actually, have you considered the possibilities inherent in using ooze to grease the wheels...? It is a far more renewable resource than boggard saliva, at least."
Ooze Lore: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17.
Male Human (Dragonblood)
John attempts to puzzle-out the principles behind it.
Arcana: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22.
Male Human (Dragonblood)
John favours Redcap with a long, long look... but refrains from saying anything.
Male Human (Dragonblood)
"I must admit, the concept sounds utterly fascinating - rapid mass transit will provide all sorts of opportunities when it comes to the mobility of the people, transfer of goods (including perishables), and the rapid-dissemination of news!"
Male Human (Dragonblood)
John is a tall, rangy human male with a faint predatory glint to his face, and brilliant sea-green eyes that feel like they could swallow anyone who stares to closely.
He bows politely to Calix.
"Well met. I am John Dee. What is the most appropriate way for us to address her Majesty? Is bowing sufficient, or would it be recommended to prostrate ourselves? Also, has there been anything bothering her of late?"
