Background Questions:
1. What is your character’s name? John Billings Bryant (of the Ostenso Billingses) 2. How old is your character? 28 3. What would somebody see at first glance? Close to 6' tall with a trim build. Black hair; pale skin; and two colorfully feathered wings. Dresses in scholarly robes. 4. What additional attributes would be noticed upon meeting the character (i.e. Speech, mannerisms)? Seldom makes eye contact; generally seems like he’s only half paying attention to whatever’s going on, except when reading or examining some new discovery. Speaks Osiriani like a native. 5. Where was your character born? Where were you raised? By who? Born in Ostenso (on east end of Cheliax’s southern coast). Showed such great promise in alchemy as a child that he was sent to study with Sharizah Shabaziv, a renowned master in Aspenthar (in Thuvia). Was raised by Sharizah and his mistress/stewardess, Zarta, a sylph wizard. 6. Who are your parents? Are they alive? What do they do for a living? Mother, Valeria (nee Billings), was the daughter of a poor but highly respected noble family in Ostenso. She manages the household. Father, Morvus Bryant, is of common birth but very wealthy. He owns and operates a successful import/export company that deals largely in treasures from Osirion and Katapesh. 7. Do you have any other family or friends? Four older brothers (Alexite, Liam, Pavo, and, Rutilus), an older sister (Victoria) and a younger sister (Korva), all of whom live in Cheliax except Pavo who moved to Sargava. Since moving to Katapesh, he's made several friends: Haseem, a Qadiran alchemist with connections in the city’s black market; Khair, a local librarian who rents a room in the same riad; and Izora, the glassblower he buys all of his vials and alembics from (and on whom he has a bit of a crush). 8. What is your character’s marital status? Kids? Single, no kids. 9. What is your character’s alignment? True Neutral 10. What is your character’s moral code? Laws are guidelines, open to interpretation and expected to include some flexibility, but contracts are a covenant between two people and should be honored. History matters and shouldn't be lost or destroyed when it can be preserved and brought into the light (especially if doing so puts some coin in my pocket). 11. Does your character have goals? To amass enough knowledge, power, and wealth to live out his days in comfort. 12. Is your character religious? No. 13. What are your character’s personal beliefs? Obviously the gods are real, but they've got bigger things to worry about than us. We make our own destiny in this world. 14. Does your character have any personality quirks (i.e. anti-social, arrogant, optimistic, paranoid)? He can be a bit condescending and tends to be slow to accept other peoples’ expertise. 15. Why does your character adventure? To acquire knowledge, power, and wealth. 16. How does your character view his/her role as an adventurer? He's the brains of whatever operation he’s a part of: full of information and quick to offer a plan (and quick to let others carry the plan out). 17. Does your character have any distinguishing marks (birth-marks, scars, deformities)? A large pair of peacock-like wings grow from his back. 18. How does your character get along with others? He very rarely dislikes people, but his tendency towards condescension and lack of skill in being tactful can sometimes make him hard for others to get along with. 19. Is there anything that your character hates? Being cold. 20. Is there anything that your character fears? Going blind. Background:
Appearance:
John Bryant is a fairly unremarkable looking man, for the most part. He stands just short of 6' tall with a trim build. He has the black hair and pale skin that are so common among people of Chelaxian descent, and a plain face adorned with a narrow beard. He dresses like a scholar, in layers of flowing robes and regalia.
There is one thing that stand out about his appearance though: a pair of wings, feathered like a peacock, sprout from his back. These wings--a sign of his fiendish heritage--lack the strength to fly, but make him highly recognizable.
