About Jo, the Traveler

Jo was born in a nameless hamlet on the border of the Ashwood. She was a happy baby much loved by her parents, but as she grew her parent's became uneasy. Her bones and muscles almost seemed to writhe beneath her skin. Being on the border of the Ashwood her parent's worried about what it might mean, and kept it to themselves, making sure to keep her bundled so no one would see what they had.

This worked for years, until the writhing became more than just that. Bones grew from her body, and her limbs deformed. Their little child was still as happy and sweet as she had ever been though. So they still tried to keep it secret. After all the changes weren't constant. They started to keep her in the house, claiming she was sickly. But like any child she would sneak out.

In the death of winter of her 7th year she snuck out one day. While playing with some of the other children she changed.
The same changes that had happened before, but the children had never seen anything like it before. They ran screaming for their parents and Jo tried to run home. Before she could make it inside the parent's caught her. The changes hadn't reverted yet.

Her father begged for the right to do it himself. And after hours of his pleading the elders acquiesced. Her father took her right to the edge of the trees of the Ashwood where he dug a grave. He buried a mutilated deer, bundling up his daughter one last time before sending her off into the woods, hoping for her safety.

Somehow she managed to survive. Following her father's last order to her, "Never leave the wood."

After years of living in the wild she gained control of her body, and lost aspects of her mind. After living like an animal for so many years, she lost her name, she lost the memory of her father's face, and as time dragged on even longer she forgot his last order.

She strayed from the woods and began travelling. When she came across a town she would hide in the shadows and watch the children play. Brief flashes of memories of her life in her hamlet playing across the screen of her mind.

She had been watching a group of children for a few days. As she watched them she learnt about them, their habits and personalities. The one who always smiled even when he grazed his knee, the tattle tale who wanted attention, the bully. She watched and grew attached.
As they were playing a man approached and the children ran, but as they ran one tripped and the man grabbed him and took him away. She didn't follow, she couldn't be seen. But she wanted to find the child.

She wanted to find her friend that she had never met.
