Jubbly wrote: Hi there,
an existing Legacy of Fire campaign being played out on private boards could do with a new player or two. Currently coming to the end of part 3 which has taken roughly 2 years in real time to get to.
Players are all GMT based, over 21, and roleplay only when they have to.
Due to the length of time and life players are now down to two with a third currently struggling to get on regularly.
GM posts are once a day, sometimes more, weekends are often GM silent.
Rules are pathfinder and a pick and mix from 3.5, no real rules lawyering going on, more of a narrative drive. Narration often takes precedent over chronology just to keep things moving - but only ever to help not hinder players.
Looking for -
Any Class
Easy going players - total noobies welcome. Or if you like playing by the spirit of rules rather than the letter of rules you will likely fit in.
Preferably GMT ish time zone, but if you dont mind posting out of time then no problem.
Willing to commit long term - at least a few months.
Over 21's
Roleplayers are very welcome, the NPCs are all roleplayed, the players tend to talk more in practical terms, but sometimes indulge - roleplayers may get bored talking to themselves or just NPCs :)
If interested reply here with some contact details or drop me a line at meeples2070 at googlemail dot com and I will send you the URL details and you can take a look to make a better decision.
I would be interested as I meet all you've asked for...

More Luke Cage than Iron Fist if you take my meaning (don't mean to mix Marvel Heroes into the DC Universe...forgive me)

You are more than welcome to participate in the discussion but please focus on what's being discussed.
I'm going to put another update to this soon, I don't have time to write all I want to right now, so a quick note on systems.
Alkenstar would use PFRPG, and maybe a couple supplements that are already converted (RITE publishing's Ironborn is one that comes to mind.)
Ptolus is a different breed. If I run that game I want it to be with a group that understands the rules and is okay handling variants and DM discretions, looking to sources like Arcana Evolved, 3.5 has a lot more of these available, but maybe we could use a mix with the PFRPG, thoughts?
Ok I gotta run for now. post more later.
In terms of less work for yourself...if you want to run Ptolus I'd use the system it is designed for. Rather than converting anything just fire up whatever it is you have in mind and no one has to post endlessly trying to clear up any system to system questions.
Taking place in a giant city provides a number of interesting things I'd like to see.
More active NPC's (in that they'll be run into far more often than in other setting)
The ability to see what impact your actions have (most games you do something somewhere else and then leave).
It might be nice to have a more normal kinda of life and be drawn into the goings on of the city...ie. a clerk, courier, groomsman...???
Let the setting dictate the game...
hedgeknight wrote: I might be interested if you weren't running four games...I just don't see how any person can devote that much time and make every game COUNT for the players. Ptolus is a freaking huge setting, one I know little about, but it is interesting nonetheless. Alkenstar is also gonna be a good setting, I think. 3.5 or Pathfinder would work for me. It seems a very postive response and it's my impression that Pathfinder is the weapon of choice?? Now just need to leave through a Player's Guide....

Hey everyone,
In a few weeks I'll be back and I'm toying with the idea of starting a fourth PbP (or possibly 2nd or 3rd depending on if my other games still have interest :p)
Anyways, I've had my hands on Monte Cook's Ptolus and I'd really like to run a game using that setting. Reading the Player's Guide would be required, and I'm not sure which game system I want to use for it (3.5/PFRPG/Aracana Unearthed)
So is there interest? What kind of Ptolus game would interest you? What system would you like to use to play it?
I want to use this forum to connect and toss some ideas about this.
THIS IS NOT A RECRUITMENT THREAD. Please don't post characters, I won't be considering them right now and will in fact ignore them.
I've seen the setting...I own all three of those systems. If it's PBP I'm interested...

Having tried so many sports and been so good at them he's aware that pro-scouts, fans, etc. saw him playing and keeping his face hidden is a major concern being well-known in some circles. I realize this might be throwing you into the thick of things in regards to understanding what has transpired thus far in the thread. I'm uncertain how much of it you've read and would be happy to detail things out more so if necessary. Just let me know. Here's a short review of what has transpired thus far.
Over the coarse of the past several hours, you, Lightning Lad, Shadow Lass and Invisible Kid were asked to investigate two missing Science Police teams upon a planet some distance away from Earth. In order to reach the planet as quickly as possible your team passed through a wormhole and also picked Star Boy up from his home planet. Together, you all reached the planet in which the Science Police teams disappeared from.
The planets surface has given off strong forms of radiation which have compromised your ship's instruments when conducting readings of the planet. The sphere has a history of near super-natural weather phenomonon as well.
You and Star Boy have stayed on the ship while the others went to explore the planet's surface. According to the Science Police data your team reviewed along the way, there was one known structure upon the planet and most of that appeared to be underground. This seems to be the source of the strange radiations. It is your understanding that your fellow Legionnaires have arrived at this structure.
In addition, while they were exporing the region, they have come across two individuals (one was found outside searching for energy crystals and apparently crash landed), the other was found inside the structure and he claims to have been a member of the first Science Police team even though his name did not appear anywhere on the data your team reviewed.
As you and Star Boy maintain orbit above the planet, the situation has grown grim. The ships instruments suddenly indicate a hige surge in radiation taking place from the structure upon planet's surface. Moments later,...
I knew I should of gone! We aren't going to be much good to anyone up here! I'm going to try and convince Star Boy to either land the ship and we'll both go...or if he wants to stay and monitor things from above I'll fly down myself and see what's up. I'm not too worried about a little radiation...it tickles!

Oh...as for that power of Damage...I'd say it's a natural ability to know where and how to inflict the most damage to end things as quickly as possible. Backfist is more of a hammer rather that a razor which is what I'm guessing (and hoping) the other melee fighter is.

I may have some tweaking to do. I had thought it would be interesting to play a hero who got "distracted" when facing more than one person. So if my fighting was +12 against one, it would be +11 against two...and so on. I'm using a version of Hero Lab for 3.5ed so the M&M stuff is free and you can't save anything.

Backfist- brawling hand to hand (me)
Blind Zen Guy - Martial Artist (I will try to learn from him)
Battlesuit Guy
Occult Guy
I think I've got all the powers right, but let me know??? I'm hoping the battlesuit can fly...we need at least one flyer:)
So I feel safe in saying that straight hand-to-hand combat against use would be rather foolish. Don't know about ranged combat, but drop us in a warehouse with baddies and that's like dropping a cake at a eight year olds birthday party.
I'm excited to see what shakes out.

I will say that Hero Lab makes this system with the highly customizable powers sooooo much easier to deal with. I love the level of detail you can go into with a power, but getting the points right can get daunting to do correctly.

Sounds good Jesse. I got his character sheet pretty much done already. I'll will review it and send it out to you along with quite a few rules.
- You will get the rules for the Basic Traits (Ability Scores)
- Information on Areas of Expertise (skills)
- How Super Powers are put together and work along with a small sample of those I've finished creating. I'll include information about your power as well.
- The Combat chapter
- The Advancement/Rewards chapter
Each one will be a separate document using Microsoft Word. My email address is: MyLegionofSuperHeroes@gmail.com
You can send me your address through it in case you don't want to post yours here.
jessedenos@hotmail.com and I'll try to be the best plasma contained in suit guy I can. Sounds good, I'll check over his character sheet and send it out to you. Do you have another Legionnore (or homemade) you also like to go with, I'd like to get the game back to two consecutive groups like it was intended when I started dreaming this whole thing up. That said I'd play any of them...it was my favorite comic for the longest time. And I'm pretty sure I remember most of the characters. I think the run I liked the best was the mid to late 70's if I remember right. And it certainly got very confusing with the reboots over the last ten or so years. REBELS is not bad, but you have to have some Legion lore to figure it out...and maybe that's the problem with attracting new readers. They have 40+ years of canon and who is going to wade into that playing detective when you can just follow a new book.

Backfist's Backstory:
Coming from a large family of athletes it was only natural that I did what my family did. As the youngest of four children I followed the lead of the eldest (my sister) and became a fairly decent gymnast. Unlike the rest of my family I didn't have to try hard to achieve success in athletics, it came naturally. The problem I had was keeping focused...lacrosse, hockey, football, baseball, soccer...I tried them all and found myself the best on the team, but I'd get bored after a while and move on to another sport. The more physical the sport however the longer I stuck with it, but I left them all after a year or two, but then I tried the most physical (at least on the body) wrestling, boxing and loved them. One on one against a skilled opponent, I'd found my best challenge and my greatest skill set. These sports I took the mostly seriously, the more I worked the better I became...I was finally challenged. However, after a while I'd beaten the best and needed to look beyond the gyms of the universities...or else I'd run the risk of falling into boredom and moving on to something else. As a professional I didn't think I be challenged...maybe at first, but my talent would ride that out and send me to the top - not right away mind you, but it would happen...it always happened. I'd need to find people to really test myself against...people who's skill level would require my complete focus. People who were unpredictable, who weren't going to play by the same rules that I did, people who had something more important to lose than a match.
But, dammit something is missing. I'm sure that my story has more depth to it. I've got a hole in my reasoning for why I do what I do and I know it's there, but I can't say why. Something has happened and I've no clue what it is. I've asked my family if they noticed anything, but they see me as they always have...I'm their golden boy and I can do no wrong in their eyes, but I also can't get an unbiased answer either. I'm going to have to go and find someone who can figure this whole thing out and explain to me what's going on.

Jesse's Hero
I've done mine. He's a brawler and I used Hero Lab and he's 120 points...I took a power that's a flaw in a way...Enhanced Fighting I've set mine to go down the more people I'm in combat with ie. if I'm fighting one guy it's maxed, two guys goes down by one and so on and so on till it's just my base fighting ability of six. This is due to my greenness and excited nature as I calm with less to focus on and get unfocused with more happening in the room or on the street.

I was going to play a naturally gifted athlete who had trained in a number of sports getting bored with them until he got into combat sports...the nature of the mano on mano drawing him in, but maybe more of a brutal type fighter than a marital artist...more "Wildcat" less Kung-Fu. Tying into the setting I'd have him waking up, but he's unsure of lot of the reasons he's doing what's he's doing. He's remembered the family members who inspired him with the athlete side, but has a hole where you'd figure the inspriation from being a hero would be (having forgotten the heroes of course). I hope this makes sense...

After hemming an hawing and trying to get time for a face to face group or even an online group that could meet at a specific time, I've decided to see if there is any interest in a DC Adventures play by post game on the boards here.
I'd be setting it in the DCU, but without the heavy hitters around. Characters would be newly minted heroes, going up against DC villains.
I'm looking to maybe wrangle from 4 to 6 players, hopefully that can post perhaps three times a week or so.
At any rate, I don't want to post too much until I get some idea on how many people are interested. Also, be gentle with me, I've read the material, I've played with making tons of characters, but I've never actually run M&M or DCA before.
Thanks for the potential interest . . .
I'd do it...count me in.

In the current game I'm running the following has happened. I have a party where one character is good (neutral good to be exact), and the rest are either evil or nutty in the case of the gnome warlock. I'll mention the party is composed of a Mystic Thergue (I've likely spelled that wrong), Lawful Evil Fighter, Lawful Evil Cleric, Chaotic Evil Assassin and a Gnome Warlock who while not evil is always causing trouble.
However the MT is played by the best player I've played with and he's the party leader. They all follow him as he's saving the party's bacon all the time and he's quite smart (the player) and he knows how to lead. So the fighter (who is very powerful himself) follows and the cleric who is tied to fighter through worship of the same god follows the fighter. The assassin is new to the party and he'll do what the fighter says. The players are all very good, but the MT's player is another level above...so I'm left having to balance things hoping each session goes well without too much chaos.
The problems are minor, but any input would be great.
