Yay!

"We need not kill him." The priest of Nethys rasped. "Senseless killing is not what we should be about. If we kill him, we're no better than they are. This is what we are fighting against!"

Turning to the Hellknight, Jeric spoke to him calmly. "We will do you no harm, other than to ensure you do not follow us, do you understand? You may know what we look like, but you don't know where we are going. Let's keep it that way, hm?"

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 <-Diplomacy Check

I suggest we knock him unconscious. That was he can't know which way we're going.

Human

Hey guys. I'm back. Did you miss me? I'm going back through the thread, but I need a little bit of an update. Who's in what state, and what kind of XP are we at?

Human

"Running is a good plan. I'll leave a...surprise for the Hellknights." Wispered the scarred priest. "It might make them a little angry, however, so we'll want to step quickly."

That said, Jeric grabbed his staff and moved to the main door door, and those who watched would see Jeric draw a faintly glowing sigil on the ground inside the door with his gloved left hand. As soon as it was complete, the symbol faded into nothingness.

"Lets go!" He hissed as loudly as he could (not very loud at all), moving with youthful speed to the trapdoor, his black robe swirling around him dramatically.

DM/OOC:

Spoiler:
Placing a Blast Rune just inside the door. 1d6 Fire damage, DC 26 Perception to find, DC 26 Disable Device to disarm.

Human

Jeric bowed his head to Janvien.

"I cannot see all like the great Nethys can." Jeric rasped. "But this cause is a true and just one. I will work with you, and hope Nethys blesses our endeavor."

Human

Jeric starts a little at the words of the elf.

Damn.

He nods, and lifts his hand to his hood. Pulling it down, he also draws his hair back from his face. All can see that, while the right side of his face is perfect and unmarred, the left side of his face and neck have been burned horribly. The skin is blackened as if it had only just been charred, although the freedom of expression proves it is an old wound. A faint silvery mark can be seen on his left cheek.

"Nethys did indeed gift me. He gifted an arrogant young mage with wisdom. Sometimes, you get burned. Sometimes it kills you. And other times...it changes you."

Human

[Elven] "I am a servant of Nethys, God of Knowledge and Magic." He said, explaining his words.

Noting the words of the other elf, Jeric nodded his agreement. "I apologise for any rudeness on my part." He said to everyone, switching to the common tongue, although his voice was so quiet it would likely not be heard over any other conversation.
"Allow me to introduce myself. I am called Jeric. The god Nethys is my patron." He continued, mostly talking to the elves. "I, like Him, have suffered for my knowledge."

Human

Jeric smiled behind his hair. Other races were always surprised when others knew their language.

[Elven] "My father taught me several years ago. Although I haven't had much cause to use it, it is... useful to know when studying magic." He explained, the words coming to him easier now, if still a little halting.
[Elven] "The Pathfinders were forcibly exiled from Cheliax many years ago, so the story goes." He said, his voice difficult to listen to.
[Elven] "I would welcome their return, but the upper classes are afraid of knowledge they cannot control. In this, my brothers and I share a certain kinship with the Pathfinders."

Human

Jeric took a seat near the two elves chattering away in their native tongue. Hearing something that grabbed his attention, Jeric turned to the elves.

[Elven] "One should be careful when... mentioning the... Pathfinders in Cheliax... friend." He rasped, his manner of speech halting thanks to a lack of recent practice.
[Elven] "I don't mean to... interrupt, but I couldn't help hearing... you mention that... organisation. I doubt any here will give you... trouble for it, but it's not something I'd... advertise." He said, his voice never raising higher than a whisper.

Human

You have a night on the town, and come back to 25 posts! Jeez.

An old man shuffled indoors, his steps halting as he leaned on the staff gripped in his right hand. Whilst his hood was up, mostly shadowing his face, his white hair draped down also, almost totally shielding his appearance from view. One could note his piercing blue eyes, however - they seemed to penetrate through the gathered people.

With a voice that barely made it past a whisper, Jeric acknowledged the group. "Greetings. I trust I am in the right place?"

Perception DC: 7 (Yeah. he's not very good at it).

Rolls:

Spoiler:

Disguise (1d20+2=7) Of what is visible, one can see that the left side of Jeric's face and neck have been badly burned in the past, making almost a straight line down his face. Basic religious knowledge would remind you of the story of Nethys, god of Magic.

Perception (1d20+8=18)

Human

Sorry for being out of commission, I haven't been well.

Jeric, having stood horrified as the 'hoods' exploded, and then people began to die. When they arose, however, he knew that the time for secrecy was past - he had to act.

Init. (1d20+2=13)

Summoning his darker powers, a dark blue glow, edged with a black that seems to absorb the light, suffuses his free hand, and a blast of incredible power flies from his fingertips.

Eldritch Blast. (1d20+2=15)
Damage (1d6=2)

Jeric is blasting the nearest target, if they are within 30 ft., he gets a +1 on the attack roll, otherwise, he scores a 15 to beat the AC.

Human

Hey guys,

I'll be posting as soon as I get home from work today (in a few hours). Sorry to have been quiet, I've only been posting sporadically as I've been unwell and busy at work.

Thanks for your patience.

Jeric: what spell are you casting? Roll Concentration check Rests his quarter-staff in the crooks of his elbows to cast a spell.

Jeric is casting Mage Armor.

Concentration. (1d20+6=20)

Jeric has only one hand occupied, so he can cast the spell no problem (you only need one free hand).

Possible Feat: Bravery: +4 to fear save

Possible Flaw: Phobia. " Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"

I hope that is clear. So far I consider you all to have mastered your fear of personal combat ( mass combat/battles are a different story)

This rule I borrowed from Palladium RPGs. If it also appears in UA or similiar D20 material, I have yet to read it or I have missed it. Either way, my apologies, my groups have found it fun in the past.

That sounds pretty cool. The phobia flaw could be something like:

Must always take the fear test against a specific creature/creature type, and this test is at a -2 penalty.

The 'creature type' version is a litte stronger (and easier to implement) than against a single creature. However, as some creature types are pretty massive (humanoids, for example) the choices should be limited Eg. Vermin, Undead, Constructs, Outsiders [Possibly Demon/Devil/Celestial/Elemental Specific], that sort of thing.

Human

Initiative Roll. (1d20+2=9)

Thanks to the stress of the moment, Jeric reacts slowly, his mind sluggish at the task of recalling a spell. "Get help!" He calls to the fleeing clerk, knowing that such a thing is unlikely.

Jeric will undertake his previously stated action on his initiative.

Human

Belatedly realizing that his attempt at subtlety may have backfired, Jeric scans about as he hears the laughter again, mentally preparing a spell as he does so.

Spot Check. (1d20+1=4)

That sucked.

DM:

Spoiler:

Ready Action (cast Mage Armor when threat appears)

Human

If we use the flaws from Unearthed Arcana, I'd probably take the Noncombatant Flaw (-2 in melee), or the Feeble Flaw (-2 on Str, Dex, and Con checks). In return, I'd probably take something like dodge, or Combat Familiar (from PHB2). Anyhow, on with the game!

Jeric, hearing some disturbing words, glances about, looking for the source, as he hisses to those nearby.
"There is trouble afoot! Be on your guard." He says, as he tightens his grip on his quarterstaff.

I also just made a Discussion Thread for us all, as we didn't have one. It can be found Here.

Spot & Listen Checks (1d20+1=19, 1d20+1=21)

Wow, a natural 20 on my listen check!

Human

Jeric ponders the scene before him quietly, watching the recruiter with an even gaze. Knowing that he must take a stand in order to take revenge for his family, Jeric steps forward to speak with the barker.

"I am Jeric. A mage of some small skill. Perhaps you would have use for one such as I?" He asks, already knowing the answer.

Meet Jeric, called Darkstar by some, named so for the portents surrounding his birth. He is a scholar, a Wizard, and something...else.

Mechanically, he's a Human Warlock 1/Wizard 2, who spends most of his time pretending he has no magical talents other than his learned ones.

I now have an alias!

Meet Lainar of the Green Heart, sometimes called the Wild Scholar, Druid, Wizard, and protector of nature

He's not statted up yet - but I'll get to that soon.
