Male Human Paladin 1

Jereth watches the firepelt before him fall and grimly nods towards Jinn. His attention is quickly snatched away, however, by the sounds of Aldem in trouble. Grasping his lance firmly Jereth quickly maneuvers Alana around until both horse and rider are facing towards the snarling firepelt.

“YAAAAAA!” Cries the young rider as his heels thunk against Alana’s newly armored sides. With a lurch the horse starts forward at a full gallop even as the sharp and bloodied tip of Jereth’s lance lowers towards his target.

(OOC: Take a 5 foot step into Jinn’s square and then Charge Firepelt.)

Attack Roll
Damage Charging Lance damage doubled for a total of 20 Damage.

Male Human Paladin 1

Hmmm, I hope that it isn't too late, but I understand if it is. I'll post something today and see what happens.

Revered Father Thomas,

I am writing you with a heart filled with mixed emotions. As of the time of this writing I have arrived in the town of Sandpoint. I am sure that you have heard from Lord Kelldonza about his missing daughter, my Mistress the Lady Dame Kelldonza, but that is only one event that has occurred during but a single day here at Sandpoint. I shall attempt to relate what happened in as clear a manner as I may.

Upon my arrival I discovered that Sandpoint was celebrating an event called the Swallowtail Festival. I was quite impressed with it, and I have much to say about it, but something terrible also happened. At the height of the festival the town was attacked by goblins of an unknown number. Many were injured and several killed before the goblins could be driven off. I must crave forgiveness, however, for I killed a goblin during the attack. I have prayed for justice to be done to its’ soul, but the taking of a life is a heavy burden. I ask that you give me some penance that I may perform that I might find some forgiveness in the heavens.

There is another matter that I feel a need to confess. I have met many good and noble people during this one day. One is an elven woman named Dannie, who is an exotic beauty that appears to be a friend to Lady Dame Elane Kelldonza. She is a special person, and it seems as if the light of the sun shines upon her continuously. I have no knowledge of the workings of a woman’s heart, Lady Dame Elane Kelldonza has informed me that it is a lesson that I am not prepared for, but I sense some strangeness about her, as if she feels uncomfortable around me and many of those she has met. I shall endeavor to understand her better, for anyone who is a friend to my Mistress is a friend to me and I wish to be as kind as I may.

Another person that I have met is a short and stout man by the name of Tamai. He has spoken gruffly, but not unkind I think. While I have not knowingly met a dwarf yet I imagine that one would be like him. He is a good fighter and has also offered his aid in my search to find my Mistress. I should accept his help gladly, although I’m not so certain about his invitation to drink due to our order’s views on the consumption of fermented beverages. I shall endeavor to be polite as always, but would appreciate any advice you might have.

Miss Sorn, a young girl who appears to enjoy fighting with her fists is another person I have encountered. I do not yet know what to make of her, but I will praise her fighting ability. She handled herself well during the goblin attack. I thank my service to my Mistress for preparing me for the sight of women fighting head to head with monsters. It still feels unnatural to me, and I find myself striving to protect her from harm, but I am trying to understand. Would it be wrong of me to suggest that she wear some armor Father Thomas? I do not wish to offend.

I have also encountered a young man named Jinn. I feel sorrow for him though, for he lost his new fiancé during the goblin attack. He appears to have channeled his grief into anger at the goblins. I an concerned that it will consume him. I remember well your lesions about revenge. I shall attempt to pass them onto him should he be willing to listen. If you have any advice or help please wrote me.

I met a man by the name of Master Foxglove, aiding Dannie to save his life during the goblin raid. He is a good man who has invited me to go hunting with him. He has also promised his aid in helping to find my Mistress. I readily accept it. He even granted me a generous gift. Some armor for Alana. It is wonderful to meet such a generous soul in this time of trial.

There is one other person that I feel compelled to tell you about, and they are the source of much of my troubled heart. I was wondering the streets of Sandpoint alone and lost at the beginning of the day when a young lady by the name of Shayliss took pity on me. She guided me through the town and welcomed me to the festival. She even introduced me to several of the local people, and helped me find the owner of the Rusty Dragon Inn. She has the ability to ease my troubles with a simple smile and I can’t seem to help but feel my cheeks heat when I am with her.

I am afraid, Father Thomas, for I have never thought these thoughts before or felt these feelings about anyone. Shayliss is so kind and gentle, and I sense a purity in her expression that touches my very soul. She is beautiful, as much as any lady of noble birth I have seen, and I feel my feet leave the ground when she touches my arm with her delicate fingers. I remember your advice about a lady love, and although she may not be noble of birth I feel that Shayliss could be the Lady of my Heart. I fear only that her father seems to dislike me, although I cannon understand why. I shall strive to win his favor through deeds of valor. It is my intention to ask Shayliss for a Favor next we meet. I hope that she will grant it.

My fear is, however, that none have ever captured me so, and I find her entering my thoughts frequently. Especially after she bestowed a kiss upon me. My lips still burn with the memory, and I feel a strong desire to feel her kiss again. I fear that my thoughts are less than pure, and my cheeks heat with shame to admit that I fear such thoughts could possibly distract me from my mission. I must beseech you for forgiveness and some penance for the sins in my thoughts. I fear I understand now at least a little of why some Knights do such strange things for the love of their ladies.

Please, Father Thomas, guide me with your wisdom. I shall strive to do what is right, but I worry about my lack of experience and pray that I don’t do further harm. Am I a fool? Have I lost my way? What must I do?

With Great Humility,

Jereth

The Most Honorable Lord Kelldonza, Head of the House Kelldonza and Master of the Knights of Irespan,

I write to you with a heavy heart. It is my duty to inform you that your daughter, Lady Dame Kelldonza, has gone missing. I traveled far to Wartle to deliver messages for her, and arrived at the town of Sandpoint upon the set day of our meeting, only to discover that she has failed to arrive. My suspicions were further aroused when I met a young Lady by the name of Dannie who claimed to have tried to meet up with Lady Dame Kelldonza but found only her riding gloves. She would not have left these gloves behind on her own unless she was in dire straights, given that they are a gift from your most noble self. I feel that I have no choice but to assume that something has befallen her somewhere within the forests surrounding Sandpoint.

I am beginning a search for her, even though I lack much skill in that area, and will enlist what help I may. I will not fail in my sacred duty to you or your house. It is my intention to continue to search the forests surrounding Sandpoint for as long as it takes to discover her fate. I will be using Sandpoint itself as a home base during my search. Messages can be left at the Rusty Dragon Inn should you wish to reach me. I shall send word if this changes.

However, I do have one humble request. The man who delivered this letter is one Sheriff Hemlock from Sandpoint. The town was recently attacked by goblins, and much of their town guard is either wounded or very green. I fear for the safety of the innocents here should another attack occur. The Sheriff has come to Magnimar in the hopes of securing more aid in the form of equipment and personnel. I ask that, for the sake of the good people of Sandpoint, you see if there is anything that you might do to help him secure the aid he needs quickly so that his people are not without his protection for too long. He has appointed several deputies to watch over the town in his absence, offering me the post as well but my honor forced me to refuse lest I be distracted from finding Lady Dame Kelldonza. I shall render the people of the town what aid I can, for I believe them to be good solid people.

I understand if you are unable to help, and crave your forgiveness for daring to ask such a thing from you. You are truly wiser than one such as myself and I shall accept your decision. If you should see fit to replace me with a more experienced member of the house I shall return. I ask only to serve as you see is best.

Most Humbly Your Servant

Jereth Holtan
Squire to Lady Dame Elane Kelldonza of Magnimar and the order of the Irespan

As a slightly different take on the character journal theme I'm going to post here letters written by my character Jereth. There is no real attempt at order, but instead they will reflect his own mind and how often he is able to write. I hope that you enjoy.

Male Human Paladin 1

Boy do I feel sheepish. I am very sorry about my absence.

Unfortunately, work did grab me a lot harder than I had expected. The good news is that I'm getting paid good money, the bad news is that I've been so burnt out because of the amount of energy spent that I've lost track of everything for the past few weeks. I think I've got everything under control now, or at least into a more solid routine. I'd love to get back into the game if you'll still have me.

Male Human Paladin 1

Please do as you see best. I am enjoying this game and look forward to what happens next.

Edit: Yikes! I wasn't able to access the map for a bit there, one reason why I didn't do anything, and I just got a good look at it. I'll be throwing an action in there as soon as I get something put together.

Male Human Paladin 1

Jereth reins Alana back with an expression of consternation. He orders his steed to back away with a movement of his knees while holding his lance steady. "Back off slowly everyone. We don't want to be hand-to-hand with these animals."

Male Human Paladin 1

Jereth grips his lance tightly and gazes with intent eyes upon the strange creature that he sees hidden in the undergrowth. Unable to make it out completely at this distance he grimaces. The undergrowth limits the usefulness of his charge, and he finds the idea of charging a a boar, or whatever it is, a little distasteful. He regrets not buying a simple spear before leaving. Leaving such thoughts aside he stands fast, and readies himself to come to his companion's defense should the creature prove more formidable than they expect.

Male Human Paladin 1

How was everyone's weekend?

Male Human Paladin 1

Jereth has not been relaxed from the moment they left the outskirts of Sandpoint. His posture is ridged, and his lance is held straight and high, but his yes never cease scanning the area around him. Alana seems agitated as well, and she doesn’t miss an opportunity to attempt to nip at the other horses in her agitation, something for which she earns a reproving swat on the head for from Jereth.

His alertness serves him quite well, however, when the rustle of leaves alerts them to the presence of another creature. He pulls Alana up slowly with the reins as well as a signal from his knees. Then he gently eases his lance from the leather cup next to his stirrup and rolls his right shoulder to loosen the muscles.

Perception.
Init.

Male Human Paladin 1

Jereth’s eyes grow large at the sight of the barding. A grin spreads over his face and he turns towards Aldem and bows his head before setting his lance butt upon the ground, leaning it against Alana’s shoulder and dismounting. “Your gift is very welcome Master Aldem. I shall do my best to honor it, and I know that Alana will appreciate it as well.”

His smile remains upon his face as he moves the lance aside, leaning it against the stable wall, and helps the servants buckle the barding over Alana. Each thick and metal studded sheet of leather is fitted carefully into place, with Jereth double checking straps, cinches, and buckles all the while. Alana’s eyes roll as the minutes pass by, but she remains still for the entire possess.

Once that is finished he borrows a small hammer and wedge the nearby stable. Taking Alana’s lift front hoof between his knees, and allowing her to lean slightly against his own shoulders, he places the wedge upon the packed dirt that has filled up her shoe over the past few days. A few strikes of the hammer later and he has cleaned out the hard packed earth, as well as a few small stones, from her shoe. The same process is repeated with all of Alana’s hooves as Jereth makes sure that each one is clean and ready for the hunt. With that done he gladly returns the hammer and wedge.

Meanwhile, Alana’s gaze has traveled over the other horses in the gathering, and her wicker when she spots the warpony seems almost matranizing. Here eyes quickly turn, however, when Dannie speaks to her own horse, and the pupils dilate slightly before she blinks.

Male Human Paladin 1

Glad to see all of you. I'm working on a post, but realized that I neglected to have Jereth write the letter for the sheriff. I'll have something soon.

Male Human Paladin 1

So, how is everyone doing?

Male Human Paladin 1

Well, sadly I had to cut out a lot of my internet based gaming. However, I fully intend on keeping this game. I love it.

Male Human Paladin 1

Jereth nods his head and smiles. “Perhaps.” Before taking his leave of those gathered there. He goes back out to Alana and climbs onto her back. With a head full of thoughts and a heart full of feeling he directs Alana towards the Rusty Dragon and then lets her set her own pace. Holding his lance steady with his right hand he looks around at Sandpoint, seeing the damage done by the attack the day before, but also the signs of life and healing already coming to the town.

For the first time in many years he finds himself wishing that his duty to the Knights of Irespan wasn’t so strict. He would love to have been able to accept the Sheriff’s offer. After all, A Knight is supposed to serve and protect all people, and these simple folk of Sandpoint seem worth protecting. His mind floats back to the stories he has been told of the terrors housed within the Irespan. Where those terrors still there? His superiors said they were. Who was a lowly Squire to question their wisdom. He shakes his head. Thinking like this wouldn’t do him any good.

Whistling a pleasant tune to try and lift his spirit Jereth finishes the journey to the Inn and finds Aldem waiting outside. He looks over the gathered horses, and notes the glint in Alana’s eye when she turns her head to look back at him. Smiling Jereth pats her neck before leaning back in the saddle somewhat and listening to the others talk. He wouldn’t mind knowing what sort of hunting they are going to be doing either. Sadly, Jereth glances at his lance and then at the gathering hunters. His left hand touches his nearly empty money pouch. Probably not enough to buy even a proper hunting spear.

Male Human Paladin 1

Thanks. I'm happy as a clam right now.

Hmmm, Tamai? I was waiting for your response. Should I just go ahead and post?

Male Human Paladin 1

Jereth bows his head to the Sheriff, the Mayor, and Shalelu. His expression is serious as he contemplates what has been happening. It is a rather interesting situation he finds himself in, what with so many different pulls upon his attention. This day promises to be very busy indeed. Jereth is thinking so hard on his plans for the day that he, at first, doesn’t hear the words of Tamai until the man nudges him and repeats himself.

“Oh,” Jereth says and looks down at Tamai with an apologetic expression upon his face. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to be rude. Unfortunately, I cannot promise to be there. I will be on the hunt and searching the woods today and I don’t know when I will be back in town. Should time and circumstances allow, however, I would be pleased to meet with you and discuss everything. Your help would be gladly accepted good sir.”

Male Human Paladin 1

Greetings,

Well, I have good news and not so good news. The good news is that I have a new job that actually uses the college degree that I sunk so much money into. :)

The not so good news is that my free time is pretty limited at the moment as I get everything set up and settled in. That means that my posting for this game may be rather slow. I'm going to make an effort to keep this from happening though. Anyway, on to update stuff.

Male Human Paladin 1

The Holy Roman Empire. Neither Holy, nor Roman, nor an Empire. Discuss! :)

Male Human Paladin 1

Jereth nods and bows his head slightly to Shalelu. “Whatever aid you can give I shall gladly accept. Thank you.” Then he turns towards the sheriff and smiles. “I shall be sure that you have it. I shall write it at this moment if you permit me.”

Jereth suddenly looks thoughtful. Then he nods as if to himself. “Something else, you were wondering if the goblins had any particular target for their arson. I cannot be certain of this, but it would appear that something drove them towards the new cathedral. I suspect that they had some good reason to want to see it burn above the other buildings. Perhaps that is why there were such numbers in the square.”

Male Human Paladin 1

Jereth, after his initial ‘good morning’ is rather quiet while the group waits for the Sheriff to arrive. When the Sheriff and the Mayor, as well as the elven woman, arrive Jereth quickly gets to his feet. Bowing slightly in greetings, but saying nothing so as to not interrupt those speaking, he clasps his hands behind his back and listens carefully.

When the Sheriff is finished Jereth takes a long moment to consider his words. Then, with a serious expression upon his face, he responds. “Sheriff Hemlock, Mayor Deverin, Miss Shalelu, I am not certain if I can accept, although my heart longs to. My primary concern is searching for the Knight I serve who appears to have gone missing in the woods beyond the town. I cannot, in good conscience, take other duties until she is found. I will say, however, that I intend to use Sandpoint as the start point of my search, and I will not hesitate to aid the people here should my lance be needed while I am here.

“Even so, I believe that I might be of service to you Sheriff Hemlock. If you will permit me I shall write you a letter of introduction to the Keldonza family in Magnimar. It is they, and the order of the Knights of Irespan, whom I serve. They may be able to help you find what you seek. Would you permit me to do so?”

Male Human Paladin 1

Well, the pretty white cat just went home to her owner. I'm a little sad now. *Does a Pepe laPue face* "Le sigh."

Male Human Paladin 1

Hi Zoe!

Hey, we have a lurker! Pressure’s on now folks. :) Just kidding around. I’m glad you are enjoying reading along, and thanks for the complements and kind words.

On a side note. Tarlane, Damia, there is still one or two slots left open in the Ravenloft game. I’d welcome either or both of you. Feel free to post there if either of you are still interested.

...if people wore socks on their ears, wouldn't their toes get cold?

Male Human Paladin 1

The next morning finds Jereth awake and polishing up his gear. He chastises himself for not being sure to clean everything before going to bed. That was very sloppy and unforgivable. So, when the town guard comes looking for him, he can be found in the tables brushing Alana. He wears a very plain beige tunic today, having put the bloody one from yesterday away in anticipation of needing to repair and it later. He is humming a song to himself when he hears the guard clear his throat.

“Oh, good morning.” He says before listening to the man’s message. “Thank you, I hadn’t forgotten. I’ll be going right now.” Setting the grooming brush aside Jereth pats Alana’s head and smiles. Then gives her a handful of oats.

Turning away and wiping his bands clean he nods to the guard. “Shall we be off then?” The young squire tries not to notice the awe in the guards’ expression It made him rather uncomfortable. He isn’t used to that sort of thing from anyone after spending so many years as nothing better than a servant, although a highly trained one. Jereth finds himself being quiet, and thus avoiding conversation with the guard. It wasn’t entirely polite, but he simply didn’t know what to say.

Once he reaches the appointed place he smiles at the people gathered there. “Good Morning, I hope you had a good nights rest.”

Male Human Paladin 1

Happy 4th of July everyone, or Happy Friday if you would rather. I hope everyone has a happy and safe day.

Male Human Paladin 1

Jereth nods his head. "I shall do what I can." Then following the instructions of the cleric and his aids the young squire spends the rest of the evening helping to care for the wounded and sick. He offers many a kind word and a soft prayer as he works, and always takes time to listen to those who seem to want to talk.

When the last of the wounded have been cared for and either bedded down or sent home Jereth begs his leave of the clerics and, leading Alana instead of riding her, makes his way to the Rusty Dragon Inn where he rests the cheapest room possible and puts Anna up in the stable. Then, after saying his own prayers to the Gods; both thanking them for the day and asking them to guide the souls of the fallen, human and goblin alike, to whatever place justice deems worthy, he finishes by asking forgiveness for taking the life of another creature this day he curls up and falls asleep.

Heal Check. (1d20=18)

Male Human Paladin 1

Ofter due consideration and carefully weighing the options I have come to the following conclusion.

Go ahead and add in side adventures and whatever else strikes your fancy. You are a wonderful DM and I trust that anything you add will serve to forward each of our character's sub-plots and development. I'm not so concerned about completing the entire adventure path as I am with simply playing the game and seeing where all of us end up.

So, as the squirrels say ... go nuts!

Male Human Paladin 1

Jereth smiles and bows his head as he is healed. The warmth of the blessing of the gods flows through him and he can feel his strength and clarity return. Bowing his head once more he offers the older man and his helpers a smile.

“Thank you very much. Now, please allow me to help somehow. I may not have the blessing of the gods, but I have these two hands and a strong shoulder to support your endeavors. How can I help Father?”

Male Human Paladin 1

I remember now, you showed us that earlier. Very nice.

Here are the ones I was looking at.

Forest Light looks beautiful. Then again I’m a sucker for a full length gown.
Forest Light

Waiting for Parsival could work for Dannie. It even has what could pass for an elven silk slip.
Waiting for Parsival

Ancestors is really nice, though I don’t know that it fits anyone.
Ancestors

Guinevere II, and Marian are what I hand in mind for something Dannie might look like.
Guinevere II
Marian

Man, all of this looking at art makes me want to buy copies of some of this and put it up on my wall. Most of my friends decorate their rooms with scantily clad models. Me, Audrey Hepburn from Breakfast at Tiffany's, Marlyn, Sean Connery, Frank Sinatra, and several paintings depicting Knights and their Lady-Loves. Add some of these to that collection and its' all pretty good classic and classy stuff. Now if only I can improve my own painting skills... Sorry, just thinking/typing out loud.

Male Human Paladin 1

Very cool. I like that image. Also, I'm imagining her father's face when she tells him that she is leaving to ride off with Jereth. Priceless, and scary. Then there is the possible image of her telling Jereth that she has permission to go only for him to find out later that she had really just sneaked away. Oh conflict and character development galore either way. :)

I tried to find some images of the other party members, but my google-fu is weak where gnomes are concerned, and I am afraid I just don't have too much of an idea of your character Jinn. It will come later. The same issue with your monk Damia. Although I would guess you would be far better at finding an image for her than I.

I did find some that could work for Dannie, but I'm having difficulty finding one I can link to. Most of them are at least partially nude though so not linking is probably a good thing. I've got nothing against drawing nudes mind you. I just don't like linking to them.

Male Human Paladin 1

Hmmm, here's one that looks pretty Varisian to me.

Autumn

Male Human Paladin 1

Cathedral of Illusion

This one? I like that. That really could work.

Male Human Paladin 1

Jereth smiles his thanks to the sheriff as the man turns and walks away. Turning back towards the courtyard he continues riding Alana. His own thoughts are a jumble now. Images of Shayliss struggle with images of him riding through the streets of Magnimar in full armor with lance held proudly and a beautiful sword strapped to his side. Then there is the image of him sitting upon Alana with modest arms and armor riding through a peaceful Sandpoint. The badge of a town guard pinned to his tabard and a rather pretty varisian scarf trailing from his helmet.

He shakes his head trying to clear it. Instead he concentrates upon the image of Lady Dame Elane Keldonza alone and in pain, possibly even captured by goblins. He chastises himself and tries to remind his heart that securing Lady Dame Keldonza’s safety is his first priority. A true Squire never abandons his Knight. He will find her, and then maybe she will forgive his faults and see fit to make his a Knight, or at least continue to train him.

With these thoughts in his mind now, and a far more sober expression upon his face, Jereth returns to the square and dismounts from Alana. Wincing at the pain coming from his wound he goes in search of the priest and his helpers. “Forgive my intrusion Father, but might you or your acolytes have any healing left?”

Male Human Paladin 1

Oops, yeah I meant CSI not Law and Order. Sorry about that.

Here is a website that has a lot of art on it. Its’ a lot of fun to look at.
http://www.webgalactic.net/clarkscenter/index.html

I recommend the work of Jonathon Bowser. Lots of beautiful pictures there.

LJ Julek Heller has a great collection of images inspired by King Arthur. Images 11 and 17 do a good job of showing what I’m aiming for with Jereth.

Warning though, some of these images, not the ones I’m pointing too but some of the others, do contain some nudity. Its’ nothing really bad, depending on how you define that, but it is there.

Male Human Paladin 1

Interesting, I kind of pictured Tamai as something close to Grissom, I think I spelled that right, from Law and Order. A no-nonsense detective devoted to his work and really good at what he does. No solid reason, that’s just the image that comes to mind. The hard rock café idea is pretty awesome. The end result could be very spectacular.

Its good to know that images can be available. But don’t sweat it. If something comes up for me I’ll let you know. I’ve never used item cards before, well not since I played DragonStrike many years ago anyway. Could be fun to take a look, but only if it isn’t too much trouble.

I’m rather surprised about how fast Jereth is falling myself. I had decided before the game started that he would be rather innocent and naive, and its’ almost like he’s taken on a life of his own. I’m almost jealous of the guy. I’m too much of a cynic myself I think. Anyway, good luck with the images. Yep, no pictures of Shayliss, although you do get a shot of her older sister at one point.

Male Human Paladin 1

Jereth looks down at the sheriff as he listens. His smile slowly fades from his face as the reality of the larger situation returns to him. Nodding his head grimly at the man’s words he responds. “I fear you do me far too much credit sir. Many fought well today, and I would not be here now I think save for the quick thinking of the elfin maiden Dannie. Still, I thank you for the compliment, and would be honored to meet with you and the Mayor on the morrow. I shall reflect upon all that I have seen in order to give a full report.”

Male Human Paladin 1

I'm hoping so as well, although it would be interesting to see how Jereth tries to overcome said hatred. I'm just interested in seeing where this little side-plot ends up. This is the first time in a long time that I have gotten this deeply into a character. I love it.

What could be even more interesting is seeing how the Holtan family reacts to Shayliss, assuming that the two get serious, given their original plans for Jereth. Add in that he hasn't seen his family in around sixteen years and that could make for more than a few awkward moments.

Oh, and I shall accept said blame for the cat hat if it should come to pass. During college I was part of a student run theater club. We had all sorts of oddness going on. Lots of fun, but confusing to those who didn't pay close attention. One person spent an entire year wearing a Picachu hat, I don't thick I spelled that right, that she found on t5he internet. Very cool person, but the hat through me.

Male Human Paladin 1

Jereth manages to get out a heartfelt “I will.” Then she surprises him by leaning in for a kiss. Having never been kissed before the youth is at a loss, and his blush grows all the brighter. Then her face, which for this moment seems to encompass his entire world, turns from his cheek and instead brushes his lips with her own. The result is that Jereth, silent and with an awestruck expression upon his face, watches Shayliss depart. A warm feeling grows and spreads throughout his body and a very large grin spreads across his face. He stands there watching her until she is well out of sight.

The grin is still upon him when he slowly turns around and mounts Alana as if in a daze. His eyes drift back towards the shop again as his legs nudge Alana forward back towards the cathedral square. Alana, having watched the exchange with her deep blue eyes, gives a snort and then performs a small jump that jars Jereth. Quickly turning back towards Alana with his vision focused once more Jereth gives her a questioning look. “What?” She looks back at him, wickers, and then begins trotting back towards the square.

As they ride a song comes to Jereth's lips. It is something that he remembers hearing long ago, but he can't quite place where. His voice is a deep rich baritone, and the smile adds a certain joy to his words.

"I have dreamed thee too long
Never seen thee or touched thee
But known thee with all of my heart

Half a prayer half a song
Thou hast always been with me
Though we have been always apart.

Dulcinea, Dulcinea
I have sought thee sung thee dreamed thee
Dulcinea
And thy name is like a prayer an angel whispers
Dulcinea, Dulcinea.

If I reach out to thee
Do not tremble and shrink
from the touch of my hand on thy hair.

Let my fingers but see
thou art warm and alive
and no phantom to fade in the air.

Dulcinea, Dulcinea
I have sought thee, sung thee, dreamed thee
Dulcinea
Now I've found thee and the world shall know thy glory
Dulcinea, Dulcinea."

(OOC: Taking 10 on the performance check since Jereth is relaxed, happy, and singing for nobody but himself. The total is 14.)

Male Human Paladin 1

Jereth feels the warmth of her fingers upon his arm, and feels his throat go slightly dry. Still, her look of concern and the way she looks at him shyly is enough to make the young man feel ten feet tall. His expression becomes one of concern when she tells him about the goblin that chased her. But when she relates the fate of the little menace he manages to chuckle grimly. “I’ll bet it did indeed almost died of fright. Those must be some big dogs.”

His smile is very wide indeed when she praises his bravery, but he tries to keep his pride from showing. “The kindness you showed me touched my heart. It is very rare for me to encounter someone so willing to help a stranger and make him feel at home. I…I.” How can he explain something that he hadn’t really even thought about? “I was very concerned that someone as kind and fair as yourself…” Again, he is lost for words and blushes knowing that he must sound like a fool. Inhaling slightly he simply smiles. “I am very glad that you are safe.”

Jereth is slightly affronted with the man’s lack of courtesy, but tries to shrug it off. What with the attack added to the amount the man seems to have been drinking he can’t be expected to be a complete fountain of civility. Shaking his head as he gently turns Alana towards the location, he thinks, of the temple square Jereth lets her pick her own pace.

Then he hears a familiar voice and turns his head to see Shayliss giggling in an alley. Swiftly dismounting he walks up to meet her even as she rushes forward with concern upon her face. “This?” He says gesturing to his own blood, “It is nothing. Forgive my appearance Shayliss. I was concerned for your safety and rode out to try and find you as soon as we fought off the goblins.” He smiles brightly despite the pain, “I am glad to see you unhurt.”

Jereth bows his head slightly. "Your words do you much credit sir. As for myself, I only do what any man would in the face of evil. Thank you for the invitation." He turns slightly and mounts Alana. Holding his lance steady with his right hand he turns back towards the doorway.

"Should you seek to find me I plan on staying at the Rusty Dragon Inn. If that changes I shall let you know Mr...?"

Heh heh, good point about that. What you call a need for sleep I call comic genius. Then again my sense of humor is considered a little off, or dry depending on who I'm talking to. I prefer the terms Deadpan Sarcasm or Literalism myself.

Hmmm,

Young man, very naive, first romantic interest, unknowingly courting disaster... yep that's Jereth. :)

I share your worry Tamai.

Jereth doesn’t step back, even though the pain of the finger poking his wounded chest makes him wince, and instead meets the mans gaze with his own. Offering the man a smile he bows his head slightly. “Thank the gods that she is alright. Still, sir, I fear you misunderstand my intentions. I am no ruffian or callous youth. I came here to be sure that she is safe from the attack, and to offer my services. As repayment for the kindness shown me I give my word that while I am in Sandpoint you and your family may call upon me for aid, and it will be gladly given.”

He resists the urge to call out to Shayliss when she smiles at him, although it does warm his heart. He does turn his head slightly though so that his smile is directed towards her for an instant before turning back towards her father.

Jereth finds himself feeling a little relieved that so little damage appears to have been done. Still, he bows his head when coming across the remains of those who have been killed. Offering a simple prayer for the souls of the dead he continues his search for the living.

Following the directions of a day laborer Jereth finds himself in front of the General Store. Tying the lance to the saddle horn so that it stands upright and hanging his shield from the saddle Jereth dismounts and approaches the door. Raising his fist he knocks upon the wooden portal and waits for an answer.

The sight of the drunken man from before surprises Jereth somewhat, but then it clicks in his mind that this is probably a relative or guardian. Offering the man a smile Jereth speaks, “Greetings, I’m Jereth Holtan, squire to Lady Dame Elane Keldonza, of Magnimar. Please forgive my rude appearance. I assure you, the goblins I faced came off far worse than my horse and I.” He gestures at the blood, both his own and goblin, which spatters his clothing as well as Alana behind him. “I am a stranger to Sandpoint and met a young woman named Shayliss who was kind enough to show me around the festival earlier. I am concerned about her and wish to make sure that she, and her family, are safe and unhurt. I was told that I would find her here. May I enter?”
