The worst suggestion on this line is to ban the spell.

The Sorcerer is supposed to spam spells and harry his opponents. A sorcerer is the swiss army knife of classes. If something is working, as boring as it is - he should keep doing it IF it's effective.

If you are concerned that the player is using it too often or the spell effects are too defeating to your mobs, maybe it's not the player who should suffer. Maybe the challenge presented isn't enough to ensure the player is forced to think of a new strategy?

I think spamming flying creatures isn't to your advantage. But using certain available spells (ala Dimension Door) would effectively end SpamPittillwin. Now if suddenly all the mobs could DD that would be lame. Why not add some RP into it as well? A ninja could flip out of the pit. A mage could levitate out of it laughing as he does so. A 15 foot Frost Giant who martial arts movie style suddenly landing in front of the group who thought they had nullified a threat will have to rethink strategy on the fly.

It's a 10x10ft hole, if the Giant failed his reflex he could possibly make an acrobatics check to lay across the hole. (As it's taller the the hole this is conceivable to me)

A GM should never consider banning or disallowing something unless it's truly destructive to a campaign. A sorcerer spamming a spell shows a lack of creativity in GM mob presentation and scenario.

The other thing is read the fine print on an item.

Player crafted items wont say this bonus stacks. But pre-genned items may. Know your bonus. Dodge stacks. Deflection, enhancement, etc stacks with other types but not themselves. Natural armor from items does not stack with itself typically. But from race, feat, or class it might state it improves existing.

An idea could be a player gets an item with an unusual bonus like a cleric getting a ring of +2 Wis divine bonus for his fealty to the order. It would be an unusual situation a player would really respond to and certainly thank you for.

True an item does come in enhancement.

However (I don't recall the item) a player could buy the state "book" providing an insight bonus or through the use of miracle/wish up their stat through a different flavor. A feat or class or spell could provide a different flavor all together.

Or were non-Pathfinder material allowed in the campaign, a player might find a stackable state increase.

Its unfortunately an issue that people make divisions while gaming - the group should be working together for a fun experience. Should be players vs monsters/challenges. I just found it very rude from one GM to the next for a fellow gamer to state he was knocking a PC down. Could've been an honest mistake by the PC. And for a GM to not understand the rule and being heavy handed seemed rather ungentlemanly. Its all about having fun with friends - why else are you playing?

I know this is an older thread and might not get viewed but what the hey.

Meta-gaming happens.

What to do about it?

I rebox monsters with neat little abilities. Had a player that has played for >15 years. It was tough introducing monsters he hadn't seen. So what I did was take some of the cannon fodder added a couple of classes and played them like PC's. He was placed off his game as they acted as a militiary unit strategically dicing apart the party.

The entire group had fun despite being obliterated.

A Creative GM makes memorable sessions despite the Meta-gaming. If you have one, use his knowledge against him. This doesn't mean punish the players but instead provide a different monster by controlling it non-standard or cookie cutter. Your meta-gamer will be floor s/he was wrong and be forced to adopt a new place at the table.

As for the person that says "I can take Xd6 damage from a fall" add a status effect then on top of it. Sure you took 10d6 and rolled low, but now you're speed is cut in half, you can only take 1 standard action per round, no full round actions and you're suffering a -10 to concentration checks. Next time you'll say "I think I can make it - it's not that far!"

I think it's kind of rude talking about knocking players down when you don't even understand how the rules work. Maybe they are simply making a mistake understanding how the items stack.

You want a min/maxer?

Try this out for size:

+4 Enhancement bonus to CHA
+4 Divine bonus to CHA
+4 Profane Bonus to CHA
+4 Luck Bonus to CHA
+4 Insight Bonus to CHA

Nothing wrong with that scenario and you gain +20 to charisma. None of it overlaps the other since they are different bonus types.

I think it's rude that you have placed a Me vs Them sort of mindset on the scenario. Your player might be new or inexperienced. Or maybe they just messed up. Identifying that you are "taking them down a peg" is really a show of bad Gamemastering and creates a situation where your players may not want to continue being in your group.
