About Jakesh Al-Keris

Born in the harem of a rich Qadira human merchant, Jakesh's mother, also human, Zaira, was banned when his mixed heritage became apparent. Exiled to the Qadira ambassy in Mechitar (Geb), Zaira borded a ship, with baby Jakesh, in the port of Sedeq, destitute and convinced of her doom. Being banned to the land of the Undead was worse than a death sentence for her infidelity.

En route, the ship was caught in a violent storm of the coast of Jamelray. As lightning crackled all around and waves crashed on the hull, the timber of the ship groaned painfully. The sailors and the capitain put a brave effort to keep the small merchant ship afloat. Yet, in the dead of night a thundrous crack resounded. The hull split in two, the ship sinking in a matter of minutes, its shipment and its crew lost at sea.

Miraculously, baby Jakesh survived the disaster. He was found the next morning by fishermen, tucked on floatsam. The only thing he had were his clothes, his mother's journal and a signet ring, a mark of his mother's ex-husband. The fishermen brought him to the monastery of Untwisting Iron to be raised as an orphan.

As he grew up, Jakesh was both a bully and a victim of cruel taunts by other children from the monastery and the city of Niswan. His violent outbursts and revenges on his taunters earned him some severe punishments from his masters at the monastery. The young Jakesh took the beatings and the admonishments with both a lack of respect for his elders and profound disdain for his victims. His orcish blood boiled with the sweet taste of violence.

It took the intervention of an old master, Sunshwan, to bring the young and violent half-orc under control. Through patience, hard training and isolation, the old man through Jakesh discipline, order and his fighting skills. When Sunshwan left the monastery of Untwisting Iron to tend to the affairs of a small Irori monastery in Osirion, Jakesh gladely followed his master, curious about this old and legendary land.

Over the course of the next few years, Jakesh discovered a thirst for knowledge the he did not suspect. The history of Osirion fascinated him, so much that, at his master's urging, Jakesh began working with Osirion relic hunting parties. His travels brought him to the attention of the Pathfinder Society and he was invited to join. The opportunity was too good to pass up. Leaving behind the land of the Pharaohs, Jakesh set sail for Absalom, the city at the center of the world.
