"I too need to purchase provisions for the trip and get the rest of my gear from the inn where I've been staying. And I would hate to lose the opportunity to see the bar wench there one last time; she has huge..." Jacek's eyes flick to Donata guiltily, and his hands twist from sitting open in front of his chest to miming carrying mugs. "Er, tankards of ale."

Jacek squelches the shock at seeing the man's eye, then offers him an arm to help him up. Nodding at the the knife in his shoulder, he says, "You seem to have found a storm, though. Which family am I offending by helping you to your feet?"
Jacek has been rather obviously (and obliviously) watching a red head at the next post instead of paying attention to the people at his own. "Huh, I'm sorry, who was discarded? In the mud over there? One of my country men, by the cut of his suit. Allow me, gentlemen." Jacek walks over to the body in the mud and nudges it with the toe of his boot. "Ho, there. Are you alive?"
After quite a bit of thought (I usually pick drives like revenge or glory), I think I will take the obvious path for Jacek. My goal is to establish a trading post for my father as quickly as possible so I can return to Egorian in his good graces. I swore an oath that I would do so, and my honor thus demands that I follow through (despite it being a little more grown up than my past conduct).

Jacek bows low over Donata's hand, and offers "Apologies, m'lady. I can't imagine what I was thinking."
"Tents? I was under the impression there would be inns...." Seeing the expressions on the faces of the others Jacek trails off and finishes in a mutter, something about fathers and Hell. "Ah well, it will be an adventure, no? I am Jacek Varilion.... yes, those Varilions..." Again, he notices that no one seems to recognize the name and his words trail off. "Right, the frontier and all. At any rate, I suppose we can be informal here. Just call me Jacek."

I also need to add some equipment, as I also assumed you meant first level starting gold (and also assumed that I would be able to get foodstuffs, etc. on the way). I will update my profile accordingly.
With a look around at the dispersing men, Jacek straightens the collar on his armor and sets his cloak to drape properly. He struts up to the table, takes his chit, and with a glance at it, walks over to the appropriate pole while looking very bored. He scans the faces of those approaching the same post as he stands there, paying particular attention to those who seem most comfortable with the weapons they are wearing or carrying.
(Character in profile) As Jacek stood listening to the Lord General ramble on, his thoughts were back in his father's study in Egorian. His father scowled at him for a while, then handed him a sack of gold coins. "While I don't doubt that you'll spend this on wine and wenches, you'd better make it last. Don't bother writing for more; you'll not get it. Either come back fit to bear the Varilion name and capable of contributing to the Varilion business, or don't come back at all." Jacek was dismissed from his presence by a snort. He wouldn't even let Jacek bring his manservant. "Learn to cope with life on your own." He looked around at the rabble mustered in front of Lord General Thrune's podium and sighed. There was probably not a fit replacement for a gentleman's gentleman in this whole throng. Hopefully there would at least be comfortable beds in Brinewall... |
