"Right. Thanks Hamid." Isaiah finishes his drink and heads home to shower before going to the library again. He pats the switchblade resting in his jacket and hopes he doesn't actually need to hurt anyone.

"Well we can sort out the book once we have it. For now I'll give it another shot after a shower. Same time here tomorrow? Or you got a number I can dial once I have the book?"

Sheet| Willpower 5 | Quintessence 1 | Paradox 0

"They called it the Book of the Bloods...Radio wanted you and me to look at it, see what we could learn. I figure if I go early enough in the morning, those tremere shouldn't bother me right?"

I guess I'll take a bath and try again...by the way, what's your name?"

Sheet| Willpower 5 | Quintessence 1 | Paradox 0

Does Prime, Time or Fate magesight see anything interesting about the man?

"Oui, ce serait génial." Isaiah follows the man to the cafe and orders an espresso.

"Mes excuses, laissez-moi vous expliquer maintenant, mais je n'ai pas pu acquérir le livre. Il y avait quelques vampires gardant la bibliothèque et ils ont réussi à me suivre à la maison. Je suis surpris d'être encore vivant." Isaiah sighs and holds his head in his hands. He is visibly shaken and looks around suspiciously.

"I dunno what I should do now, I feel like I should skip town and lay low for a while. Maybe do some traveling."

Sheet| Willpower 5 | Quintessence 1 | Paradox 0

Two random vampires would still spell certain death or a shit ton of paradox for a solo mage like me.

Isaiah worries a little bit about what the assistant will say, but figures once he mentions the vampires that things will smooth over.

This has gotten a bit of out hand...

Sheet| Willpower 5 | Quintessence 1 | Paradox 0

Isaiah shrugs and is not going to tempt his luck with vampires. He bids them adieu and makes plans to leave France.

Sheet| Willpower 5 | Quintessence 1 | Paradox 0

"I wanted to check out the book and study it with my mentor. If this book is so important, seems like a bad idea to keep it in a public place."

Maybe I should just split, I could probably survive a fall from this floor.

Sheet| Willpower 5 | Quintessence 1 | Paradox 0

Isaiah briefly considers letting them go to avoid being involved with such highly suspicious people but...

"W-wait! I am a man of many skills, surely there is something I could do for you to earn some time with the book?"

Sheet| Willpower 5 | Quintessence 1 | Paradox 0

So...they're leaving the book?

Isaiah smiles back at the lady and winks at her.

Sheet| Willpower 5 | Quintessence 1 | Paradox 0

Isaiah shrugs and leans against the counter. "C'est magique. Je suis spécialiste, mais pas affilié à une université."

Sheet| Willpower 5 | Quintessence 1 | Paradox 0

Willpower: 5d10 ⇒ (2, 6, 7, 3, 2) = 20

"Reels. My name should be meaningless to you folks anyways. Why do you care about the book?" Isaiah gets up and starts making tea instead.

Pg.544 goes into a bit more detail, but it makes it clear that it applies to any kind of psychic action whether magical or otherwise. It appears Reactive since Pg.544 says it acts as a dodge for the assault, subtracting successes from the aggressor's rolls.

Sheet| Willpower 5 | Quintessence 1 | Paradox 0

Mind Control Resistance:
By rolling your Willpower Trait rating, you can help your mage resist the effects of Mind Sphere magick. Successes on that roll subtract from the successes rolled on the
Mind attack. The roll’s difficulty is usually 6, although
a particularly potent or subtle attack might raise that
difficulty at the Storyteller’s discretion. Botching this roll
might end up costing you a permanent Willpower point.
Mages and other supernatural creatures get this resistance
roll for free, but Sleepers must spend a Willpower point
in order to resist Mind magick this way. See Resisting
Psychic Assaults in Chapter Ten, (p. 544).

Since I have no reason not to be on guard against mental attacks because of the lady's failure before...but c'est la vie.

Isaiah plays dumb.

"Back where I'm from, books are meant to be rented from the library. Can I offer you any coffee?"

Sheet| Willpower 5 | Quintessence 1 | Paradox 0

Isaiah is suspicious of the knocking and quietly looks through the eyehole without answering.

Sheet| Willpower 5 | Quintessence 1 | Paradox 0

Isaiah enjoys a cup of coffee while he cross references his knowledge of the occult with the designs and possible symbols on the outside of the book. Now that he's outside of the library, he wonders if he can discern anything about the book from his mage sight.

What do I roll with Occult? Intelligence?

Occult + Intelligence: 6d10 ⇒ (2, 6, 9, 1, 3, 4) = 25

If he gets no results from that, he'll meditate a bit and see if Radio is listening.

Sheet| Willpower 5 | Quintessence 1 | Paradox 0

Isaiah calls a cab a few blocks down and goes home to study the book.

Sheet| Willpower 5 | Quintessence 1 | Paradox 0

I never put it back. I took it to the receptionist.

Sheet| Willpower 5 | Quintessence 1 | Paradox 0

Stealth: 6d10 ⇒ (10, 7, 7, 6, 10, 10) = 50

Isaiah tries to slip out of the library quietly with the book and head home.

Woo, sick roll

Sheet| Willpower 5 | Quintessence 1 | Paradox 0

Isaiah asks the receptionist if there is someone here who can handle the book and also checks to see if that lady is following him.

Sheet| Willpower 5 | Quintessence 1 | Paradox 0

Isaiah frowns and puts his sunglasses back on.

"Hm, well I'm going to go look for a specialist here. I'm sure SOMEONE here must be qualified to show me. But thanks for the chat. I've got a craving for learning that needs to be itched." Isaiah leaves to go talk to the receptionist again.

Sheet| Willpower 5 | Quintessence 1 | Paradox 0

"Oh! Je suis tellement désolé, j'étais toujours intéressé par ce genre de choses à l'école. Ai-je besoin d'un spécialiste pour superviser afin que je puisse lire? Peut-être pourrais-tu me superviser à côté du dîner et du vin..." Isaiah puts on his most winning smile after he jumps a little from the sudden surprise. He also politely takes off his sunglasses and places them in his jacket so he can get a better look at her.

Sheet| Willpower 5 | Quintessence 1 | Paradox 0

Well damn, clearly I can't just go around looking at all the books till I find one...

Isaiah closes his eyes and walks along one of the shelves, letting his fingers brush against the books. In his other hand, he tightly grips his lucky coin. He randomly chooses a book and hopes he finds what he's looking for before opening his eyes again.

Control Probability to pick the right book =D

Arete Roll, Difficulty 5-1 for Specialty Focus: 3d10 ⇒ (2, 5, 4) = 11

Sheet| Willpower 5 | Quintessence 1 | Paradox 0

"Oui monsieur, voulez-vous m'indiquer la littérature fantastique?" Isaiah says cheerfully before pausing for a moment to consider the form. He quickly scribbles a fake name and moves on to peruse the library.

Sheet| Willpower 5 | Quintessence 1 | Paradox 0

Isaiah shakes his jacket and loosens it a little once he's indoors. He simply follows the source for now though once he gets near, he browses through nearby shelves before proceeding closer.

I wonder if it'll be more modern looking or like old latin stuff.

Sheet| Willpower 5 | Quintessence 1 | Paradox 0

Flipping through brochures, Isaiah decides to go to the Mazarine Library since it's described as the oldest public library. He hums a tune as he walks and pulls his jacket more closed from the cold.

Sheet| Willpower 5 | Quintessence 1 | Paradox 0

Flashback:
Within the comfort of a small and relatively comfortable apartment, Isaiah yawns as he performs his morning ritual after sipping a bit of coffee. Sitting down crosslegged in his bed, he quietly mumbles to himself as he rolls his favorite coin across his fingers. He feels tugging as on his eyelids and a burning sensation in his mind as he forces his perception to widen.

Arete, Difficulty 2: 3d10 ⇒ (10, 6, 7) = 23

"Roger that." Isaiah scans the area before checking some tourist guides and map for nearby libraries.

Sheet| Willpower 5 | Quintessence 1 | Paradox 0

Okay looks like the revised edition has the right rules just the anniversary one compiles basically all the most up to date stuff. Awesome. This thing is way more useful. I had to find like a bunch of different splatbooks that were more up to date before.

Pg.502-504

One success is needed to alter my perceptions, Two more make it last the day.

Sheet| Willpower 5 | Quintessence 1 | Paradox 0

"Wherever you want me to boss, I can more or less get anywhere I need to be. Fate is cool like that. Oh and I know french!"

Sheet| Willpower 5 | Quintessence 1 | Paradox 0

Now I have a fancy sheet!

TIME STUFF!

Sheet| Willpower 5 | Quintessence 1 | Paradox 0

Isaiah Mason was born and raised in Los Angeles. Your average introvert, more interested in browsing the web, playing video games and hanging out with friends instead of studying. Around 20 years old, sophomore year in College, his parents grew concerned with growing tensions between the US and Russia. They scraped together what little they had and sent their boy to study with their relatives in France. On that fateful flight, the plane was shot down in an escalation of the war tensions and during the traumatic plummet to the ground below, Isaiah woke. Suddenly reality ground to a halt in the midst of him hyperventilating into an oxygen mask. Immediately his mind tried to rationalize the moment "This must be the part where my life flashes before my eyes." Seconds passed or did they? Isaiah shakily stood as nothing continued to happen. A fire burned in his brain, daring him to continue. He picked his way across the breaking plane while his eyes carefully avoided looking at the horror still etched on the other passengers' faces. He wasn't sure where he was going, but eventually he found what was drawing him. A shoulderbag and parachute suspended in the air still from the impact yet conspicuously still within reach of each other. Isaiah followed the burning instinct overpowering all emotion as he buckled the parachute on. The moment he leapt out of the plane, reality ripped free of it's constraints violently and the plane was torn to pieces. Isaiah panicked internally as he freefell through the sky. Eventually after fumbling with the drawstring for a solid minute he was able to pull the chute and correct his descent. He landed in a wooded region somewhere in France. As soon as he was able to pull free of the chute, he then vomited in a nearby bush before passing out.

Isaiah woke to a static buzzing coming from his shoulderbag. The contents seemed to be your everyday survival gear: snacks, a bedroll, a few bottles of water and a hand radio like an old school walkie-talkie. ”Re-...els?...R...Reels?” He could almost hear a voice through the static. Desperate for any kind of help, Isaiah responded half crying. ”Hello? Hello is anyone there? I need help!” The static paused for a moment before starting again. ”Okay, lis-...ten carefully. I...ne-ed you...to...the ..tr-ee with...carving...keep walkin' till...hit road. Some-...take you...need to be.” Strangely enough, he could see a red line leading to the tree then beyond to the road.

During this moment of respite before he was picked up by a kindly old man in a beatup truck, he spoke a long time with the voice on the radio. It told him that Isaiah(or rather Reels, he wouldn't change how he referred to Isaiah even after being corrected), that he owed him one and as long as he listens to what it said that it'd do it's best to keep him safe in return.

The old man was already on his way to just the town over from where his relatives lived in France. Continuing to talk with the radio started Isaiah down his journey as Awakened. It in no simple terms explained what happened on the plane and with difficulty began walking Isaiah through the steps to conjure his own power. An Orphan in the metaphysical way, Radio took him under his wing. Arriving at his relatives' home he discovered that forty years have passed and that they believed he had died in the crash before WW3. The old couple didn't recognize him anymore and so he was left in a strange country with no one but Radio to count on. Through his strange network of allies, Isaiah survived and learned under the mysterious benefactor.

Radio taught him how to see first. Once that was done, he said the boring part was out of the way. He began to learn how to better his odds literally. Radio always told him to be careful though. A coincidence is just that. Five in a row raises eyebrows and not just the dealer's. Time was always dangerous, but Radio said it pays to have a trump card. Isaiah thought he was over-exaggerating but when the shakes and hallucinations came, he hoped he'd never have to do that again.

Isaiah's mortal worries of yore forgotten in the massive new world he finds himself a part of. He craves the supernatural and actively seeks out the unknown. With most of the mage traditions decimated by the war, he especially keeps an eye out for rumors of abandoned facilities. Finders Keepers is the law of the land nowadays. Through the tutelage of his mentor Radio, he sees the world as one that Mages are destined to rule. Humanity needs a guiding hand to avoid these atrocities from happening again. And only the clever and powerful will remain at the top. He's cautiously eager to meet the first supernatural that doesn't want to eat him.

Experience is the best way to learn after all, so currently Isaiah travels to find other supernatural beings or locations.
