Backstory
Isaac was born into a small border town of Mendyev called Steyr. His father, Abhar, was away fighting in the third crusade when he was born, and his mother passed in childbirth. He was raised by his two older brothers, who were themselves training to join the crusades. He grew strong under his brothers' teaching, which was learned from their father. He swore to honor his mother by carrying on his father's purpose. To Isaac's great dismay, his father never returned from the third crusade, having been lost deep in the Worldwound. Shortly thereafter, his eldest brother, Edan, left ot live in Kenabres, to be ready to defend against evil. Unfortunately, he fell under the sway of the cult of Baphomet that had grown up amongst the crusaders. When he returned home, Edan was full of ideas that were so contrary to what Isaac and Merick knew, and Edan was quick to try to convert his kin. The disagreement became so fierce, that Merick and Edan came to blows regularly, only sparing each other's lives out of duty to family. Isaac tried valiantly to redeem Edan, loving him and showing great kindness and mercy. But it was to no gain. Finally, the day came when Edan grew too evil to be reasoned with, and killed Merick in the night. Merick, however, had anticipated this, and arranged for a way for Isaac to know if it happened. When Merick breathed his last, Isaac's family signet burned hot. He leapt out of bed and drew his sword, ready to confront Edan. Rushing into Merick's room, he found Edan weeping on the floor over Merick's body, distraught because of what he had done. Edan begged for forgiveness, but Isaac could not. Redemption is beyond you. There is only justice. Isaac quickly and decisively executed what he believed to be his last remaining kin. The next day, after testifying before the courts and being acquitted, Isaac joined the militia and awaited another crusade. He continued in his family's footsteps, learning all he could about tactics, leadership, warfare, and strategy. Isaac received word that a fourth crusade was beginning. He traveled to Kenabres to join the battle. With only a few encounters under his belt, he was floored to see his father return home under the care of one Yaniel Demonslayer. Overjoyed, Isaac left the crusade to take his aging and unstable father back home and care for him. But tragedy struck again. His father was corrupted, and could not control his demonic urges. After too many near-misses, Isaac was forced to bitterly choose to take his father's life as he had his brother's. The night it was to be done, his father fled towards the Worldwound, never to be seen again. Isaac was too heartbroken to return to the crusade. Rather, he took up a position of leadership in the local militia, and spent almost all of his time alone, reading, philosophizing, studying, and - without realizing it - aging. Now a middle-aged man, Isaac is ready to rejoin the fight. He has come to terms with what must be done: the demons must be destroyed, his father must be brought to justice, and this war must be ended. Too many good men have been lost to evil. There is no redemption. Only justice.
Personality
Isaac's primary motivation is the eradication of demons and those who serve them. He acts out of duty first, and justice second. He has not yet accepted it, but much of his sense of justice is actually born of revenge. Isaac is calm, but stern most of the time, but deep down inside he is terribly sad and angry. In times of great emotional intensity he can become highly volatile, acting out of raw fury instead of using his military training. A few adjectives to fill him out: disciplined, cautious with streaks of recklessness, open on the surface, but reserved with deeper personal facts. During resting times, Isaac can be found reciting passages from classic works on tactics and leadership. The closest thing he has to a hobby is sword drills. He secretly enjoys bird watching as well.
