Background:
She was born at sea, the daughter of varisian pirates, her father was known as Captain Grievous (he called himself so to sound more scary, his name was Andrej Grevasky).
Iolana doesn't speak of her mother's death, but she was in her low-to-mid teens when that happened ; the young girl was very clever and eager to help her parents in their sea travels, and soon learned how to run a ship,to fight with swords and daggers and to cast arcane spells from her mother.She even came with her own fighting style blending swordplay with magic,making proud both parents.
When her mom died everything changed.Her father stopped taking care of the Zerenade, their ship, and Iolana had to take place as the captain when she was just 16, while Andrej spent his days searching for some rumors and ancient scrolls,without telling his daughter what he was up to. Apparently he believed he found a ruin of thassilonian origins in which he could bring back to life his wife, but he still didn't tell Iolana in case the rumors were false.
He and his daughter began searching these ruins, but they also aroused the interests of an unknown rival, who during one such search ambushed and captured Iolana and some of her crew;the men were slain and she was held captive,probably to learn what her father was searching.
She remembers very little of this period as she was almost always kept unconscious;what she knows all too well is the attempt at rescuing her, made possible by a supposed friend of her father which was present at her capture. During such attempt this mysterious ally hid a drugged Iolana while her captors' ship battled agaisnt the Zerenade, battle which ended with both ships sinking.
Iolana learned some hours later that also her father was gone, as well as her mysterious savior.
She spent some time in mourning and depression but in the end she went on,found a new job as honest sailor and a new ship to work on, she no longer wanted to be in command of a crew.
At 19 she was approached by a man in a tavern; he introduced himself as cptn Castellus Cale, free captain of The Shackles and began asking about Grievous (Iolana's dad) and what he was searching. The girl, which was already quite drunk herself, answered by shouting accuses, bringing more dunken patrons in the discussion which soon degenarated in huge tavern brawl.
Iolana and Cale were forced to flee from the authorities, she hasn't seen him since then.<to be continued>
