Ingrit was born to simple miners who worked alongside humans in their shallow mines. When it became apparent that little Ingrit was deaf, her parents became overprotective in the extreme, inadvertently making Ingrit act out all the more and prove her independence. Whenever she could, she would sneak out and explore, any mines or tunnels she could get into. She felt more confident surrounded by rock.
Sometimes she would disappear for days, but the search parties always found her without a scratch and well fed on whatever she'd scavenged from the tunnels. Her bright smile and pluck insured they didn't stay mad. When she was too big to ground, she'd disappear even longer, returning only long enough to assure her parents she was all right before disappearing again.
On one return, she leared of a cave-in that had trapped some miners, her father included. With her knowledge of the tunnels, she found another route to them, but her father was badly injured by the rockfall. Fear touched her heart for the first time. Something inside her reached out to the stones for support, and suddenly, her father was healed. She was stone blessed, an oracle. Her parents worried less.
Eventually she's gone as far as she could. She knew the caves and tunnels of home like the back of her hand. There was more to explore, but even she balked at tackling the darklands alone. She heard word that dwarves were planning an expedition to reclaim what was lost, she wants to be a part of it. She feels called below.
