One thing to note, though, is that in actuality, the requirements for the Prestige Class(es) didn't change at all. What changed is something that counted as a requirement no longer counts. I understand that indirectly, it feels like a change in the prestige class requirements, but it really is not.

I don't understand the distinction you're making.

How is it not a change to say that SLA no longer satisfy the requirement?

Because the prerequisites have not changed.

For example: PrCs that required the ability to cast 3rd level spells still have that same prerequisite. An aasimar being able to cast daylight no longer qualifies as "being able to cast 3rd level spells" is all.

How about a Kitsune burning 3 feats on magical tails to qualify at level 6 instead of level 9 ???

I thought the only reason those feats were in the game was to get the early access... maybe someone can find another benefit though

There already is a general set rule for how this works. Its in the Guide to Organized Play.

FAQs and Errata come into play immediately. They always have.

In this case, they made a special decision on how this particular change...

Andrew,

Thanks for your response. That settles the issue for me. As long as there is a set rule, and it was applied then it was done by the book and there is no point of taking this to court :)

I will have to take the hit and move on.

I'm sure someone will call me out on continuing to play PFS at all. As a preemptive answer to that, I have friends that really enjoy it and I'm not going to bail on them completely. That'd be crappy from a friend perspective, at least in my opinion.

And you have already invested in the books you have, it totally makes sense to keep playing using the options you already have. Otherwise it will not be optimal decision either.

I am considering the same option, I will just use the resources I already own.

Okay, this is a good answer.
Actually, it does not answer the OP at all. The question was "Why was this decision made?". Saying that it was made after discussion and that it won't change does NOT answer "Why".
It was already advised why the decision was made Here.

Michael,

Thanks for your responses. Let's put it this way..this sucks and you did hurt a lot of players by deciding on dropping the hammer without warning and adopt the FAQ as soon as it was released. However it is you and John who call the shots, so..okay.. moving on...

How about devising a policy on how the campaign will adopt the new FAQ as they come from now on to avoid such conversation in the future ??

* Will FAQ become in effect the day they are released if the PFS organizers decided to follow it ?
* Will it be in effect 2 weeks after the announcement is made ? to make sure all people are aware of it ?
* Maybe FAQ become in effect on set dates ? 4 times a year or something... so people check for new rules on Aug, Nov, Feb and May ??

I would like you guys to decide on something, announce it and stick to it, that way it is law and we won't get this thing happening every time.... even if you decide on something that is not fair..if it is not fair but consistent then the majority will accept it because it is law.

Cheers
Inari (who is really pissed he will pay 15 PP)

Okay, this is a good answer. Not fair by any measure of imagination, especially in my case after spending 75-80 hours playing my character, but let's say that this is what it is.

Now, let's discuss granting the people who are impacted by the rules change a free retraining option ? not a free rebuild, just a chance to retrain the feats and the skills they invested in to qualify for a class based on the old rules that changed effective the day of the announcement. Is that possible ??

If/When it is clarified one way or the other I'm out gold.

Yes, it's a shared world, and yes, we all make sacrifices. I can't play a Changeling, Skinwalkerm or Kayal, for example, nor can I play a Vanguard or a Psion.

I an okay to pay the GP for retraining Mathew, but 15 PP ??? I am not changing my character options because I changed my mind, I am changing them because the society organizers changed their mind...

And you can play any of the options you mentioned above in a home game.. this is not the same..

This situation is not a matter of the 'banhammer'. The rules of the game changed. The Society organizers implemented in as clear cut and simple a method as they saw reasonable.

@BigDTBone - This thread and forum are not the place to argue the merits of the FAQ's change - but to have a productive discussion about the implementations and effect on PFS.

Hey Andrew,

This is all good... The rules did change, and the society organizers implemented the changes. But when you are running a game and then decide to change the rules... do not you allow your players to change their character options without having to go through a retraining process ?? after all..YOU changed the rules they play with, no ?

Because you took a dodgy path, and the rules changed. Same thing with Bracers of the Falcon, vivisectionests, and other things that have changed.

Why no warning or grace? Ask the people who ran 30 minute MotFF runs to get 10 tieflings why.

Okay, I do not think I was abusing any rules, I was building to get to MT at level 6 using an Oracle / Sorc build, my character is already half way in its PFS carrier, and then some one just changes the rules on me with no warning, now it will cost me 15 PP and 900 GP if I want to fix my character or else retire it ?? after spending all this time building and playing it ? for no reason other than a rule change with out permission to rebuild your character ??

I do not know about you... but this whole thing is too draconic considering we are supposed to be playing a co-operative game that offer no prizes.

Why do people cheat ? I do not know...
why do we care if some one makes 10 Tieflings ? let them... seriously... can he play them all ??? no... can he sell them and gain a benefit from his cheating ? no...
Did he gain an unfair advantage ? maybe... but I would feel sad for him that he felt the need to do so, instead of feeling that we need to guard against those people by giving no grace period...

I think in a game such as PFS we need to explain to people that there is no need to cheat guys because seriously you will gain nothing... you will just look dump... we do too much to guard against abusers in my opinion.

So, Inari is Kitsune Life Oracle 4/Sorc 1 who just today made it to lvl 6.... I told my buddy at the table I will take my 1st MT lvl now and he pointed me to this thread.

Inari's 1st, 3rd and 5th Feat were the magical tails feats to get him to cast 2nd lvl arcane spells, now how am I supposed to proceed ??? I am fine with Oracle 4/ Sorc 1, this is not too bad I can cast arcane spells from wands and scrolls, not much of a hit but I am playing with 3 less feats. Can some figure of authority please explain to me why I have to retrain all my feats now and pay my PP & GP for that ?

This is a huge hit for Inari, I would love to see a way to grant a grace period or at least granting a free rebuild...

Thanks for your comments and responses in advance :)

Cheers
