yeah, i guess i was coming to that conclusion. I've played a lot of dex build characters with lots of flexibility and skills and found this idea while i was toying with a power attack 2H build.

i made up a couple of clone sheets to see what the same character looks like at lev 4 and 5 (which is most likely where our group will be when i introduce this character.

half giant with maxed out STR and a 2H weapon gets me very nice attack bonus and damage of a large sized weapon.

if i go with armoured blade and take improved armour bladeskill i get equivalent of masterwork full plate. (i wondered is this would be viable as a choice because it says mind armour rtather than mind armaments, but the link of the actual word goes to the armoured blade page, so i guess at least it might be okay)

might not be able to do much damage to undead or demons until I get +2 weapon enhancement and can go for holy to get through DR.

I get masterwork half plate with aegis warhulk, but i get psionic attack to get around DR brawn customisation bumps my STR and if i take fighter's blade feat i can count my enhanced blade as +4 to allow me to take aegis levels without losing too many bonuses.

they both look pretty good, and i'm not sure which i like better, but this discussion has given me some space to think it through
thanks heaps.

okay, so half giant war hulk has to take heavy armor option, so i couldn't go with astral skin unless i switched there, but probably not going to gain anything by running them together. still not sure if i gain much by multiclassing over choosing to go with armoured blade and take no dips. it would mean i don't get to go metaforge, but i need to spend more time looking at the two outcomes for comparison.

thanks for that. i'm not really as interested in flight, my intent is to go warhulk with the juggernaut armor and a 2H polearm and go for melee striking and maybe go for some reached tripping and attack of opportunity stuff. I like the idea that a half giant is able to create a 2H mindblade sized for a large creature.

I have used a no-dips 2H soulknife cutthroat and set my self up to use a 2H weapon for sneak attacks on a DEX based skill-monkey ophiduan working as a detective. He was a bit of a glass canon, but boy was he scary in combat. I spent a lot of loot on getting ioun stones surgically implanted and made a lot of use of a hat of disguise.

I've been trying to figure out whether it works out to be worth the effort to multi-class between warhulk and soulknife or if i should just go with armoured soulknife and not do any level dips. not sure which gets me a scarier heavy tank.

I am creating a new character - a half giant metaforge
I mostly want to run him as a strength based melee tank with 2H bill polearm

as i was reading through the soulknife stuff i ran across the armoured blade and wondered if the armour would stack with aegis armour, or whether it would be a total waste of time having it because they wouldn't play well together.

at the moment i'm building the character to jump into a lev 4 campaign, so will only have soulknife 2 and aegis 2 and probably going on a campaign heavy on undead and demons (lots of stuff needs silver/magic/cold iron) to kill.

any other advice people want to throw to me will be much appreciated.

This ability otherwise functions like and replaces the standard witch familiar.

most people i've seen comments from say that the mask can only do the basic spell stuff, but this last line seems to suggest that it should be able to do at least some of the others as well.

i think maybe RAI is that the mask's special ability is the boost to healing and intimidation (where it would be +3 fly for a bat) and that the other abilities should level with the witch.

this makes me think that the mask is in the process of becoming an intelligent item as a result of being constantly used to channel magic and will learn to communicate with its master a little at a time. the one that seems the most difficult is "animals of its own kind" which could be other intelligent objects.

as a GM i'd probably rule this was okay, as a player of the witch i'm definitely in favour of adding those bonuses.

BTW, anyone know what the hardness of a mask is? the entry talks about it potentially being destroyed, but there's no hardness or HP listed.

scratch that last comment - somehow I read it as at lev 2 and every 2 levels after, instead of every level after, maybe my brain is tired from too much rule reading.

hey all - this is my first time creating a witch character, and I'm building straight to lev 4 to fit into a campaign, but i'm trying to do spells known by level in order to make sure i get them all correct, but i've encountered a weird disparity - maybe i've misunderstood something...

the familiar grants all cantrips along with 3 + Stat modifier L1 spells to begin at CL 1
_my character has an insanely high number for INT, so he gets 9 L1 spells

at CL 2 the familiar grants 2 additional spells that are presently castable (can only be L1)
_now i have 11 L1 spells to chose from

at CL 3 the familiar takes a break from granting new spells until CL 4
_I just gained the ability to cast L2 spells and can't have any?

did I misunderstand something here?

Adopted
You were adopted and raised by someone not of your race, and raised in a society not your own.
As a result, you picked up a race trait from your adoptive parents and society, and may immediately select a race trait from your adoptive parents' race.

if that means race trait from the family, then a human adopted by dwarves can have the race trait of dark vision.

but since the race trait on the adopted page actually links to the list of race traits where blood of dragons is listed.

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/traits/race-traits

human can take adopted trait - that grants you a racial trait (only racial trait) from your adopted family. Racial trait blood of dragons will give you low-light vision as one possible option. Now your human (adopted by dragon blooded family) has low light vision

greetings folks - i'm looking for some guidance from some folks who have investigated VMC more than me (I discovered it yesterday)
I have an idea for a character i'd like to play - a creepy tengu cultist type. Not sure if what I'm thinking is even legal in terms of game mechanics, or if it is viable whether it would be any benefit to do it.

I came up with the idea of multiclassing a soulbolt with a zen archer to add the level scaling weapon creation ability of the soulbolt to the zen archer's wisdom based awesomeness. I think both of these classes would probably be fairly heavily nerfed by splitting level progression between the two over time (we're probably starting from lev 1 or 2 after having played previous characters up to 18) I'm not sure which i should use as the primary and which should be the secondary class.

can anyone help me get a better idea of the way those two are likely to interact on VMC? I'm feeling like I'm really not understanding things. I'm particularly interested in how the first few levels would play out for abilities.

would really appreciate some help.
