About Illairion Mintara

Illairion Mintara was born of a wealthy noble elven family. While his mother, Elethra, was pregnant with Illairion, she had an affair with a mysterious, captivating elven sorcerer, Sillarin, who resided with the family. Illairion's father, Galdrith, learned of the infidelity and banished Sillarin from his home. Sillarin, who was deeply in love with Elethra, refused to be deprived of his lover, and he revealed himself to be a powerful vampire. He bestowed Elethra with his eternal vampiric kiss, so that he could have her with him forever. They ran away together with a now-transformed Illairion still in his mother's womb. Illairion's enraged father Galdrith hired a professional vampire hunter to find and slay them both. After tracking the couple for ten months, the vampire hunter and his men found Sillarin and Elethra. A brutal battle ensued. The vampire hunter lost four of his five companions, but, in the end, Sillarin and Elethra were vanquished. By then, Illairion has already been born. The hunter and his companion couldn't bring themselves to kill Illairion. He wasn't a true vampire, but he had the taint of undead about him. The two men took Illairion to an orphanage to be raised. The other children knew that Illairion was different because of his magical abilities (which he did not know how to use adeptly at this stage), so they didn't connect with him, and some even picked on him. Eventually, he learned of a family of gnomish sorcerers nearby -- the Silverleaf family. He ran away from the orphanage and asked the gnomes to take him in. They immediately were able to sense his innate abilities and agreed to take him in and train him properly. This is where he learned how to control and make effective use of his innate magical abilities.
