Ilias is the last survivor of Woodhaven, a small village in the Sanos Forest. When he was 15, his parents sent him into the woods to fetch firewood in anticipation of a brutal winter. He proudly returned with a full load of firewood, but his pride turned to horror when he realized no one was in the village. It was as if everyone vanished in the middle of their activities; unattended cook pots still had fires blazing under them, one of the horses was partially shod while the shoeing tools lay next to the bewildered animal, and various other jobs were in unfinished states. Ilias waited for everyone to return, and ended up waiting through the winter. He managed to survive, and in his abject loneliness he inadvertently gave life to an imaginary friend, Oog, from his early childhood. Then, near the spring thaw, he started hearing the voices of his friends and family, imploring him to save them. Not knowing what to do, he fled the village and travelled to a nearby village with Oog in tow. He arrived to find the village in the same state as Woodhaven the very day everyone disappeared, but the denizens of that village cried out for help immediately rather than waiting. Ilias fled that village and encountered a third village in the Sanos Forest that had met the same fate. After spending a few years on his own, terrified of entering another civilized area again, he has gathered up his nerve and made his way out of the Sanos, eventually finding Sirathu.

Ilias looks like he has spent a lot of time in the woods, considering the twigs and branches stuck in his long brown hair, the threadbare clothes, and dirt-encrusted...everything. He is wary around strangers, but he eventually warms up to them, once he assures himself they won't disappear forever. He dotes on Oog, who basically was Ilias's muscle during his time alone.

Ilias is afraid that everyone in town will disappear again. He's also afraid the spirits from the empty villages will haunt him again.

Family, with whom he hopes to eventually be reunited. Oog, who has been his only companion for the past seven years..

Pretty much everything dealing with reintegrating with civilized society.

That he managed to fend for himself (OK, with a little bit of help from Oog) for all this time.

Ilias worries that the people he interacts with now are spirits that he can actually hear and see.
