Belaria looks around.
Percep: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

But she is preoccupied by the conflicting emotions from seeing so many goblin corpses.

She turns to Walthus. "Could it have been that monster you were talking about?"

Skibbidy bop mmmn dotdot.

Currently leaning toward a Shield Archon paladin, just because it sounds cool.

There's too many monsters to choose from!

I wonder what classes would work with a unicorn...

Well, I can't say I didn't see this coming. The AP has lost its appeal for me as well. I enjoyed it a lot when it was an adventure on the open sea. But at some point it became more about political intrigue and conspiracy, which I didn't enjoy as much.

Still, I'd love to sign up for a new PbP! Being a productive member of society now, I can't promise the instant response-time I (sometimes) used to have. But I'll try to post consistently and take more initiative.

Here's a fitting shanty for the end of our voyage.

'Ey.

I'll chip in for turning the dragon into a flying fire truck.

Sure!

History:
Lucas was cloned from a warlord who used the gifts of Passion, Sun, and Sword to strike fear in his enemies while neutralizing their attacks and abilities. As his influence grew, so did his overconfidence, and when the First finally came for him, he actually believed he could defeat them. Needless to say, he didn't.

Lucas decided he would help rogue gifted avoid making his predecessor's mistakes. Instead of using his gifts to intimidate his foes, he would attempt to reason with them and convince them to join the Organization peacefully. Of course, that isn't always an option, and Lucas is fully prepared to use his powers offensively if it comes to that.

During one of his training sessions, Lucas suffered an unfortunate accident that severely damaged his eyes. For just a moment, the thought crossed his mind that he might never see again...

Lucas was rushed to the nearest Health-bound Gifted, and his eyes were healed in a matter of seconds. But strangely, his irises had turned a dull gray, and his pupils seemed cloudy and unfocused. A confused and terrified Lucas asked why he still couldn't see, and the onlookers couldn't think of how to answer.

A Gifted's powers respond to his or her beliefs and perspective, but not always in a beneficial way. When Lucas feared that he might be permanently blinded, his Connection made that fear manifest. Now he must rely on that same Connection to see the world as he once did, and only in situations the Organization deems acceptable.

Lucas doesn't blame the Organization for withholding his power of sight. After all, he is as much of a threat as any other Gifted when his Connection is open. It has been two years since the incident, enough time for him to make peace with his condition and adapt to it. His other senses have improved dramatically, and he is skilled at reading people's emotions through their voices alone. But every time he opens his Connection, and looks upon the world with eyes that glow like the sun, he can't help but think about what he has lost.

I have a pretty solid grasp on my character. I'll post details later this evening.

Do clones in this setting keep the memories and skills of the original person? Or are they more like newborns, learning how to use their powers and interact with the world from scratch?

Actually, on second thought, it'd be hard to explain why my character chose to remain blind when the Organization is probably filled with Gifted healers who could easily restore his eyesight.

Maybe something to do with him being a defective clone?

This is a pretty cool concept!

I have the start of an idea for character who has Sun as one of his words, but is also blind. As a member of the Organization, he would have to avoid using his powers most of the time, which includes Sun's passive vision-granting ability. I think there are interesting RP opportunities to be had.

Same here!

Also, I finished Izmir’s backstory.

Backstory:
I left him to die. That undeniable fact had been at the forefront of Izmir’s thoughts, ever since that horrifying day.

He recalled the scene in perfect detail, as if it had happened yesterday. He and his father had been training in an open field like they did most summer afternoons. Suddenly, the sky seemed to darken above them, as a shimmering mass of darkness opened a few hundred feet away. The young Izmir stared at it curiously, but his more worldly father turned pale. ”Run, Izmir.” he said softly.

Before Izmir could open his mouth to ask what was happening, a horde of wretched abominations erupted out of the darkness, their anguished screams rattling the young lad’s ears. His father picked up his sword and faced the horde, as he shouted ”RUN! NOW!”

Instinct taking hold of Izmir’s body as he bolted away from the chaotic scene. He ran nearly a mile, before he bumped into a trio of Pavian knights on patrol. Recognizing Alumon’s son, they quickly asked the boy where his father was. He could only respond by falling to his knees, weeping.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------

Over the following days, Izmir would gradually piece together what had happened. By sheer misfortune, Alumon Runarin had been directly next to one of the nine Night Road entrances that opened that day. He never had the chance to regroup with his fellow knights to defend his people - all he could do was hold off the Uncreated long enough save his own son.

And Izmir had left him to die.

From then on, Izmir gave up on his dream of becoming a knight. After all, wasn’t it a knight’s duty to die in battle, especially back to back with one of his comrades? Sometimes he wished it had been him who died that day, so that Alumon could go on giving hope to what remained of his countrymen.

Still, the knights who found him had graciously offered to take him under their wing as an attendant of sorts. He was all too happy to oblige. For five years, he would stay at their side as they roamed across the remnants of their homeland, delivering justice wherever they could. Their group grew in number, but not by much - there were so few knights left.

One day, at the request of a troubled farming village, they were clearing out a cave full of monsters that had been wandering into the village and destroying crops. It seemed to be going well - even Izmir could handle some of the pests, not that he would try. But suddenly, they were cornered by a much larger one, whose thick hide shone like steel and seemed impervious to their swords! Izmir froze where he stood. There was nowhere to run, the knights were helpless...was this the end?

Then something strange happened: Izmir found himself running toward the monster! He had no reason to think he could help, but something told him that he had to try! As he ran, the monster and knights seemed to be moving in slow motion, and the sparks of clanging swords hovered in place like fireflies. He threw a wild punch, his arm surging with unfamiliar energy. And as his fist connected with the creature's head, he felt its skull crumple like paper.

From the knights’ perspective, only an instant had passed One moment they were fighting desperately, and the next, the fearsome beast fell to the ground with a large hole in its head. Then they noticed Izmir beside them, fist outstretched. But he wasn't the timid young man they had known - he stood tall and proud, and his eyes burned with a fierce determination that reminded them of his father.

Izmir turned and saw his allies gawking at him, awestruck. He couldn't help but laugh at the sight.

”You all look like you've seen a ghost!” he teased, his once soft voice now booming with confidence. ”Now come on - we've still got work to do.”

The knights snapped out of their trance, and followed Izmir further into the cave. Indeed, they would follow him into the pits of Hell if he asked them to. What else can you do when a Godbound is leading the charge?

Izmir is loosely based on Cayden Cailean, my favorite Pathfinder deity. Just a normal dude who became a god by accident, and is content with using his powers to be a Chaotic force of Good and an inspirational figure for his worshippers, rather than try to lord over them.

Keante wrote:
Sounds good to me! By the way, I noticed you said Izmir was born 15 years before the Shattering. I think you meant to refer to the event 5 years ago when nine Night Roads burst into Ancalia. That event doesn't actually have a name that I have noticed. The Shattering refers to a thousand years ago when the Made Gods began plundering the celestial engines, causing all kinds of natural calamities in the world.

Ah, my mistake. Thanks for picking up on that!

@Keante - I didn't notice someone else had applied with a member of the Pavian order. If we both get accepted, maybe we could be part of the same group!

Application:
Name: Izmir Runarin
Origin Fact: He was born in Ancalia, fifteen years before the nation was plunged into ruin by the Shattering. He is the son of Alumon Runarin, a high-ranking knight of the Pavian order whose bravery and skill were the stuff of legend.
Profession Fact: He was a squire in a wandering band of Pavian knights.
Relationship Fact: Izmir always benefitted from his father's legacy when dealing with his fellow knights. Simply uttering Alumon's name would earn several nods of respect, plus a few stories of "Old Grizzly's" heroism. Nowadays, Izmir is starting to prove his own worth, ever since the daring stunt he pulled during the moment of his ascension. Though he's still not officially a knight, most Pavians revere his heritage.

Background: (Still working on the details!)

First word, Sword: Izmir learned the basics of combat from his father, proving to be an adept fighter. As a Godbound, his combat prowess has been honed to the point where his bare fists are as deadly as any blade.
Second word, Passion: Izmir's ascension was far more than just a physical transformation. His heart now burns with courage, and his presence strikes fear or awe in most onlookers, where before they would have ignored him completely.
Third word, Alacrity: Alumon was a hulking bear of a man, who charged into battle clad in heavy armor and clutching a mighty greatsword. Izmir, by contrast, is lean but nimble, and favors lighter armor and weapons. His newfound powers reflect his preferred fighting style, granting him speed and reflexes to the point where any armor is only a hindrance.

Short Term/Immediate Goal: Become a true Pavian knight.

Personal Motivations: Izmir wants to be a hero in every sense of the word. He wants to become more powerful, make a positive impact on the world, and inspire hope in the masses.
Personal Weaknesses: Somewhat naive and shortsighted, Izmir charges headlong at a problem without taking the time to analyze the situation. He values emotion over logic, and will often do what "feels right" rather than what makes the most sense. Insulting his father or the other knights is a surefire way to piss him off, sometimes to the point of becoming violent.

Dotting. I've wanted to try out Godbound for some time, and I think I have a pretty interesting character idea.

Be careful with a zen archer Inquisitor. Using Ki is a swift action and so is using bane. You also can’t use rapid shot or many shot with flurry of blows. That really hurts with mythic.

Yeah, good point. It'll also be hard to keep up with damage, since I can't buy an Adaptive bow.

Bear with me while I work on a new idea that's more Strength and melee-focused.

So, what happens to the Mythic versions of feats that have been removed by the Elephant in the Room feat tax rules? For example, does Mythic Deadly Aim still exist? If not, do we treat it as a combat option available to any mythic creature?

Dot! I have a Zen Archer/Inquisitor build in mind, I'll try to get it ready over the weekend.

I know what it's like to become addicted to a hobby as escapism. It takes a lot of strength to recognize the problem and force oneself to face reality.

Whether you decide to end this game or not, I support your decision and hope you can find peace of mind one day.

Yep. Now I just assume I'm signed out by default.

Swapped it for brawler's Maneuver Training. I'm starting to think that was a mistake.

I was already planning to get the Dimensional Agility/Assault/Dervish feat line once I have Abundant Step. Then I could basically BAMF all over the place during a flurry and trip up several creatures at once.

Unfortunately, that requires at least 3 feats, and none are combat feats. So it won't come together until 13th level at the earliest.

Alternatively, I could look for a way to cast Dimension Door earlier, preferably more than once per day.

Not sure what kind of utility stuff I could do. What if I got rid of Pummeling Style and/or Pummeling Charge, and made a more combat maneuver-focused build?

Sure. That actually fits well with his character, taking a moment to calm himself and assess the situation before going back into crazy-murder-mode.

How do you want to handle rage cycling? I found a way to make myself immune to fatigue with no drawback. Should I just treat any "once per rage" effects as "once per round"?

Awww :(

That makes it considerably less useful, given how much investment it takes. I might find some other way to get self-sustained flight.

Freeform Class rules

Quote:
If an archetype replaces more than one ability it then costs the average of the abilities replaced (rounding up).

Uncanny Dodge and Damage Reduction are both secondary abilities (3), and Improved Uncanny Dodge is received automatically after taking Uncanny Dodge. So the cost is 3 points.

I'm fine either way. But I'm kinda curious how the three of us will hold up.

I might have to call it quits for now. Things IRL are getting...complicated.

Nah, I was wrong. I just checked.

I thought the "+2 to any stat, +1 to two others, every 4 levels" starts at 1st level, but maybe I was reading it wrong?

Originally, Pummeling Style had you make your attack rolls for a full-attack or flurry and combine them into a single mega-powerful attack. If you landed a crit on any ONE of those rolls, the ENTIRE attack would get the critical damage.

Now, it's simply a normal full-attack or flurry where you add up the damage from every successful attack before applying DR. And you can only use it with unarmed strikes.

Nah. The ninja ki pool's base abilities are more about acrobatics and stealth. The monk's are better for combat.

Besides, I'm starting to prefer this new build.

Storm Dragon wrote:

Anyway, BD, I agree that Mamon might not be a good fit anymore, without copious amounts of pork. But have you considered just making a new character instead?

Alright, I came up with a WIS-focused build. Not as much arKIne power, but a lot more Monk-y.

Now I'm thinking about getting the Conversion Inquisition, so I can be a wise party face. Do I need to choose a deity for that?

For the arcane pool: Yes, but I was hoping to get the one from the Esoteric archetype. It has abilities that are more useful for unarmed strikes. Since I'm doing that, I can't take any cha-based arcane pool from other archetypes.

For the ki pool: I just found the Scaled Fist monk archetype, which changes all Wis-based class features to be based on Cha. But that feature doesn't replace anything, so idk how many points it would cost.

CHA-based Arcane Pool, CHA-based monk's Ki Pool, and the Ki Arcana ability from the Esoteric magus archetype (lets you use Arcane and Ki points interchangeably).

Almost done!
