Racial Traits
Naturally Psionic: Maenads gain the Wild Talent feat as a bonus feat at 1st level. If a maenad takes levels in a psionic class, he instead gains the Psionic Talent feat.
Maenad Psionics: Maenad gain the following psi-like ability. 1/day—energy ray. A maenad can deal only sonic damage with this ability. It is accompanied by a tremendous scream of rage. The manifester level is equal to 1/2 Hit Dice (minimum 1st). The DC for this power is equal to 10 + the power's level + the maenad's Charisma modifier.
Sonic Affinity: Maenads add a +1 to the DC of any spell or power with the sonic descriptor.
Outburst: Maenads can dampen their mental processes for an increase in raw power called an outburst. As a result, they take a -2 penalty to Intelligence and Wisdom but gain a +2 bonus to Strength. The character must spend one power point at the beginning of each round during an outburst and may stop an outburst at any time.
Inner Rage: Maenads are able to rage one additional round per day should they have the rage ability and they gain an additional round per day every odd character level. In addition to using these rounds for rage, maenads may use them to fuel their outburst, instead of power points.
Ordered Rage: Maenads may take levels in the barbarian class even if they are of the lawful alignment.
Natural Sailors: Maenads have a +2 bonus to Swim and Profession (sailor) checks. In addition, they gain a +2 bonus to Acrobatics and Climb checks made on sailing ships.
Weapon Familiarity: Maenads are proficient with flails. Maenads treat any weapon with the word “maenad” in the name as a martial weapon rather than an exotic one.
Psionic Aptitude: When a maenad takes a level in a favored class, he can choose to gain an additional power point instead of a hit point or skill point.

Description:

6'4", 260lb
Idalon is tall, standing well above most humans, and heavy set. He has long black hair, which he leaves wild and usually tangled, and dark skin. His skin is flecked with what seem to be bits of ebony crystal. He is solidly built and muscular, yet has some underlying grace, augmented by his cold brown eyes and indifferent air. He wears a heavy cloak over his armor, well suited to protecting him from the elements, yet prefers to go barefoot wherever possible, only pulling his boots out from his pack out of necessity. Though he has the look of a warrior, no weapon can be seen anywhere on his person

Background:

Idalon was born in the Lands of the Linnorm Kings, in the northern parts of Avistan, far north of Varisia. He lived with his parents for years in a small village on the river near the border to Irrisen. There were other Maenads in the village, forming a small, tight community within the larger community of the village. Idalon was taught by this community from an early age that he must always have a firm control over his emotions. He could never make any emotional display, especially in front of others. For he was also taught that if he did, they would no longer accept the Maenads if they knew the maelstrom they contained within. But Idalon did not understand. He had, for as long as he could remember, felt such strong emotions. Burning rage and unyielding pride often dominated his mind to the point where controlling it forced him to break into a sweat. And one day, he released his control. He doesn't even remember exactly what happened or what set it off. All he remembers is that when he came to, he was surrounded by Maenads and humans. Without their face changing from their normal, emotionless demeanor, his parents told him that he had to leave. He left the village and wandered, eventually ending up by the sea. He took to the sea, using the last of his savings to buy a small boat. Once at sea, he promised himself that he would never show his emotions again. To control it, he learned to harness the power of his anger and turn give it physical form as a weapon. He sailed for a while, content to be alone, for he had no desire to mingle with other races, whom he distrusted, because of the rejection he had faced from the humans of his village. However, as he sailed south, he could not find income enough to support him. He landed in a small port in the town of Sandpoint and reluctantly sold his boat, turning inland to seek some income and, perhaps, some relief.

Personality:

Idalon essentially has two personalities. The one he displays to the outside world is cold, calm, and aloof. He displays no emotions, never acts in a hurry, never allows himself to be flustered. He is not very talkative, and will tend to just ignore someone if he finds them boring. On the inside, however, there is a very different personality that he releases just a little bit of in the heat of battle. His inner personality is proud and impatient, and often full of rage. Though he never displays it, he gets frustrated and angry easily. He is internally resentful of the world, though he appears to simply be a calm observer.
