Hruskin was supposed to be a forge-tender. He was the goblin that runs the bellows and keeps the bucket full of water, as was his father and grandfather before him. His last name, Gelddar, even means "Forge Keeper" in Goblinish. But fate interceded. One day, while swooning in the heat of a working forge, he suddenly went glassy-eyed, stumbled to the forge and began hammering away. By the time anyone noticed, he had forged a steel shield marked with the symbol of Onatar, god of the forge. It was during a busy time of year, jousting season, and so the hobgoblin smith in charge merely clapped him upside the head and threw his shield on the pile. It was shipped, along with the all the others, to the tournament.
Two days later an unknown knight won the tourney by using the shield provided him to bash his opponent senseless in the melee. (His sword had shattered, his lance had snapped, his mace flew apart under the strain.) When he inquired after the smith that had produced such a sturdy shield, it was eventually discovered that the forge-boy had done it. The clerics of Onatar caught wind of this and declared the goblin boy was blessed by the Forge Lord himself. Hruskin was quickly placed in apprenticeship to a forge priest and rapidly rose from apprentice initiate to journeyman smith. Now his only dream is to forge the best arms and armor he can for his people, but fate has a way of changing dreams...
Hruskin is a stern lad, gruff but fair. He's not much for fair words or fancy talk, but keeps to what he knows: the forge and the word of Onatar. "Keep your tools straight and your forge hot and all your works will be quality."
