About Hrane Throrson

Hrane Throrson was born to a loving family. Thror and Bodill were Hrane's parents. They ran a small shop where they sold fabrics and dyes in Brunderton. They belonged to the Whurrgan Clan, a small, young and unremarkable clan with few members. Thror had a penchant for gambling and after several years it got horribly out of hand. They sold their business and left Brunderton in shame, shunned by their clan and its patriarch. They wandered Brevoy and the River Kingdoms for years while Hrane grew up. Working as farmhands and washing taverns wherever they could. It never payed enough to bring them out of their poverty however. Thror started drinking and Bodill had enough. She left Thror and Hrane to themselves and it didn't take long before the grief and bottle took Thror's life.

Hrane was twenty when he was left to himself. Determined not to go back to the clan that shunned his mother and father he continued to take stray jobs where ever he could find. For ten years he toiled doing back breaking work for no more than a days food. Eventually he found work as a scout for the Brevoyan army. He learned how to track and survive in the wild and for a while it was a good life.

However, as most young males he wanted more. Greed and hatred burned inside of him. He wanted more gold, faster than what he earned doing honest work as a scout. He eventually left the army and became a brigand in the River Kingdoms. For years he grumbled and hated as greed took him deeper into the dark places of banditry. The skills he learned as a scout in the army proved useful and he was somewhat successful leading ambushes on innocent merchants and travelers. Banditry was still a harsh life. The cold wilderness was always just a blanket away and he often lived just a day a head of the law.

Years became decades and time turned Hrane into an old man by human standards though he was still a young dwarf. All these years spent ambushing and robbing innocent people, sometimes killing a few, left Hrane with a bad taste in his mouth. The wealth he had gathered felt filthy and he threw it away and made his way back into the civilized parts of Brevoy. He rejoined the army and continued his work as a scout. He became a successful Ranger and helped the army track down and bring justice to many groups of bandits across the land. Mostly thanks to his now intimate knowledge of the criminal mind.

Personality.
Hrane is young by dwarven standards but has still lived an entire human lifetime. A wealth of experiences, a harsh life and bad decisions have eventually made him realize that only a positive outlook on life will make it worth living. He has lived with and worked with all sorts of scum and villainy, picking up some bad habits. You're likely to find him picking his nose and serving food with the same hand.

He likes to make jokes and idle small talk while travelling, collecting stories and anecdotes like gold coins. His laugh is loud and rolling. He is proud of his skills as an outdoors man and especially of his ability to track down banditry and criminal elements hiding in the vast wilderness. He primarily prays to Torag but knows to make offerings to the weather gods when the rain and wind is especially cold.

Description
He is 4'5 tall, has a muscular bodyshape and a face worn by weather and time. He has shaved most of his hair away and what is left is kept as a mohawk. His hair is a deep red color and he keeps his beard in a single thick braid tied at the end with a leather band.

He wears an old leather coat with metal plates sewn into it for protection. It has a fur lining to protect against the harsh weather of the frontier and looks quite comfortable. His gear is old and battered, the only truly clean thing he brings with him is his horse, burdened with some simple gear and several weeks of food. It looks well taken care of.

Crunch
Hrane will be an archery focused Ranger but I can easily add a few melee oriented feats to make him closer to a switch-hitter to make him more useful to the party if needed. I gave him a high intelligence because I wanted lots of skills and I feel like this campaign allows for more socially built characters as opposed to a purely mechanically optimized character.

Goals
Hrane himself wants to atone for his years as a bandit. His main concern is to help make the Greenbelt somewhat safe from banditry. He hopes to use his experience has a bandit to do this without revealing to anyone his past.

He also wants to be able to call a place home, to settle down with a place of his own that he can protect.

As a player I would like to see if Hrane can restore his clan to some measure of respect, perhaps find his mother and bring her with him to this Kingdom he could help create.

Desired Role
Hrane has a variety of stats with medium bonuses to them, but dexterity is going to be his focus. Combined with being a character with a skill-set focused on the wilderness I think the role of Marshal or Spymaster would suit him best. Personally I think the role of Spymaster would offer the most interesting roleplaying scenarios and I would like to have this position.

In the party I can offer good martial abilities and also eventually the crafting of healing potions should that be needed.
