The first thing that occurs to one seeing Hida Yuo is that the man is massive. The second is how they had not noticed the man until that moment. Perhaps it was due to how quietly the man sat there. Perhaps it was because his movements were so slight that at times he appeared to not even take breathe. Whatever the case, Hida Yuo is easily lost amongst the crowd despite his size. Those that have seen him without his armor have been witness to the astounding amount of punishment this man has taken and are left questioning just how a mortal man could survive such trauma. Hida Yuo gave up on his hair many years ago and shaves what little remains on a daily basis. His beard is short and peppered with silver. His clothes are generally well worn but clean, and armor is well cared for, but has obviously seen a lot of use. Height: 6'3"
The History of Hida Yuo:
It has been many moons since Hida Yuo was a child, but even then he was larger than all around him. Among Crabs this was not an advantage. He learned early that he could not win a battle by his size alone. Whether they came in groups, or they were faster, or simply cleverer, Hida Yuo was defeated by many of his challengers and many there were. He was the most obvious target for others to prove themselves. He was seen as simple because of his slow speech and quiet demeanor. At matters of sheer strength, Hida Yuo had few equals, but among the Crab, being strong makes you normal. His family decided to marry him young. A plain girl of the Kaiu Family. Perhaps not the prettiest of girls, she was clever, and while they had not married for love, Hida Yuo found he had no complaints. And in return, she learned that this mountain was much shrewder than he looked, with a thirst for knowledge that no one had expected. What others had taken for slow, she found to be patience. Not brilliant by any stretch, Hida Yuo was nevertheless possessed by boundless curiosity. He simply had no need to prove it and preferred to watch rather than question in order to learn. She taught him much about all manner of things and he grew to love her in his quiet, unassuming way. Their proudest moment was the birth of their son, whom they named Soh. A clever boy with a curiosity to match his parents. This was a time of peace for the Crab and so many looked inward for ways to prove themselves. As in his youth, Hida Yuo found many that saw him as the perfect opportunity. More often than not when a drunken brawl would break out, he would be the first that others turned on in order to ease their frustration. But even in this relatively peaceful time, there are always problems that arise in the Shadowlands and Hida Yuo was no stranger to them. Over the years he found himself involved in not a small amount of skirmishes and defending from raids leading up to the Battle of Twilight’s Honor. On three separate occasions, Hida Yuo was left barely alive with all those fighting around him dead. Some called him lucky. Many wondered how he managed to survive while so many others died. So too did Hida Yuo. No one was prepared for the assault by the spawn of Akuma no Oni. Hida Soh was as brave as his father, but did not have his father’s luck. When he and his mother were attacked during one of their typical rides through the countryside, he immediately moved to protect her. But a boy barely ten, even a brave and clever boy, stands no chance against the nightmares of the Shadowlands. The wife of Hida Yuo survived, but at the cost of her greatest joy. It was not long after that she joined her son, the loss being too great. The whispers among the Court were poison, though none were cruel enough to say so within earshot of Hida Yuo. It was not until after the battle that he learned of the fate of his son. To those that did not know him, Hida Yuo showed no reaction. He did not know how to react. What would be enough to show his pain? How much could be possibly destroy so that others would know? When his beloved followed, Hida Yuo was devastated, though again, he knew not how to show it. The Family of his wife blamed him for her death. Her brother especially. Kaiu Takakana, as Karo of Kyuden Hida has much power within the Court. He despises Hida Yuo, believing that the man did not care about the loss of his wife and son and never loved either of them. In recent years Hida Yuo has found his fortune taken a turn for the worse. In order to maintain some semblance of honor, he turned to --- for aid. In return, he has taken on an obligation of no small merit. Rings and Attributes:

The Way of the Crab: The Hida Bushi is the epitome of 'heavy infantry', able to endure harsh blows and deliver crushing attacks in return. You may ignore TN penalties for wearing heavy armor for all skills except Stealth. When using a Heavy Weapon you gain a bonus of +1k0 to the total of all damage rolls. The Mountain Does Not Move: The Hida Bushi is famous for extraordinary tenacity, weathering wounds that would kill normal men. You gain Reduction equal to your Earth Ring. Two Pincers, One Mind: A Hida Bushi is relentless. You may make attacks as a Simple Action instead of a Complex Action while using Heavy Weapons or weapons with the Samurai Keyword. Kata
Advantages and Disadvantages:
Advantages Sage: You have a love of learning, and have accumulated a staggering amount of information during the course of your lifetime. Whenever you would be forced to make an Unskilled Roll when using a Lore Skill, you instead are considered to have 1 rank in that Skill. Strength of the Earth: In your soul can be found the spirit of the mountains and the strength of stone. You can overcome injuries that would cripple other men. The TN penalties you suffer from Wound Ranks are reduced by 3. Large: You are significantly larger than the average Rokugani, ranging in height from 6'0" to 6'3" in height. You gain a bonus of +1k0 to the total of all Damage Rolls for any large melee weapon. Luck (Rank 2): Fortune favors the mortal man. Two times per session equal to your rank in this Advantage, you may choose to immediately re-roll any one roll you make, keeping the higher of the two results. Blood of Osano-Wo: You are descended from a bloodline of Hida Osana-Wo, the Fortune of Fire and Thunder, and his resilience lives on in you. You are immune to any penalties or damage from natural weather conditions, such as winter cold, summer heat, etc. If you suffer damage from a spell that employs natural forces (such as the mighty storm created by Hurricane, or the lightning bolt summoned by Fury of Osano-Wo), reduce the amount of damage you suffer by 1k1.
