A thought just occurred to me; how come Illusion spells require Will saves but have no interaction with the Perception skill?

I mean, wouldn't Perception be the thing for spotting things 'wrong' with an illusion? I suppose for things like patterns, which are mind affecting, a Will save is warranted (your brain is/is not fully affected), but otherwise?

Makes me wonder if a Spellcraft vs Perception opposed roll wouldn't be better.

After viewing the recent thread on metamagic feats (which, the consensus seems to be 'most of them ain't worth it'), I had a thought:

Metamagic Points.

So here's how this works. Nobody prepares metamagic spells ahead of time. Instead, you use 'metamagic points' to apply the affects as you cast (sort of like a sorcerer does, and probably with the same add-on time constraints) them. Each +1 level costs 1 metamagic point, and you can add on points to a spell to the point where Spell Level + Metamagic Points = Max Spell Level you can cast.

Wizards/Druids/Clerics (any 9 level prepared caster) get 1 Metamagic Point per Caster Level
Sorcerers (any 9 level spontaneous caster) get 2 Metamagic Points per Caster Level
Bards (any 6 level spontaneous caster) get 1 Metamagic Point per Caster Level (fewer spell levels and fewer spells, and probably fewer metamagic feats)
Paladins/Rangers (any 4 level prepared caster) get 0.5 Metamagic Points per Caster Level.

Metamagic points are renewed when spells are acquired/restored/renewed.

A feat (probably called Extra Metamagic) would provide more Metamagic Points, I'm thinking around 3-4 more points (or possibly 1 point per spell level you could cast).

What this does:

Encourages players to take metamagic feats, especially prepared spellcasters. They no longer have to prepare the spell with metamagic, but have limited metamagical resources.

Encourages the players to take the less optimal metamagical feats, like Enlarge, Empower, or Maximize Spell. Since these spells don't actually use higher level spell slots (just the normal spell slot an metamagic points), they become a viable alternative.

Of course, I'm worried that this makes Wizards/Sorcerers/CoDzillas even MORE powerful, though that power comes at the cost of taking Metamagic Feats rather than Spell Focus, Improved Initiative, Combat Casting, Toughness and other magician standard feats.

Thoughts?
