Backstory:
Havark was born a runt. Fiendish blood laid dormant in his line, but took form in his birth. His body frail and week was covered in scales and his fingers long and gangly. His parents weeped over this and took it as a omen for not being faithful enough. They needed to satisfy the displeased gods. So they offered Havark up to sacrifice. He was anointed and prayed over before being taken into the woods. There he was left as final prayers were given. Soon the wolves of Freyr and Freyja would descend upon the boy. It seemed the fates had another plan though. As Havark cried out a middle aged dwarf name Torgim was out on the hunt.
Torgrim heard the cries of the boy. He approached and was shocked to see a baby laying there alone. He took this as an omen. His wife and he had been unable to bear children of their own. He collected up the boy and carried him home. Torgrim greeted his wife with Havark. They loved him, and because of this they were so thankful that they would see past any earthly deformities.
Havark grew. Torgrim took notice of his weakness so did the best he could to keep the boy strong of mind. He knew of a temple. It was far to the east of Trollheim, but there Havark could learn much. The temple belonged to the Scarlet Sentinels. For ages this temple had been responsible for training some of the most loyal and noble protectors for the Jarls of Trollheim. For ten years now they cared and provided for Havark. Now for him to better himself and prepare for the harsh world they journeyed to this temple.
Torgrim left Havark in care of the warrior monks. It was here at the temple he learned loyalty above all. His first loyalty is to the brotherhood none above any other sentinel. His second loyalty is to God. Wotan is chief god of the Sentinel’s. They pay mind to the others but none above the Rune Father. Havark learned this and bought into the teachings with his heart and soul. It was hear too he learned of the cruelty that his father spoke of. Havark was weak and odd. The other students bullied and picked on Havark. They did not like the idea of swearing an oath to protect and love a weak odd looking boy. Havark was beaten and spit upon. His things would be stolen as well. All of this fueled his fire, he only became more determined. It was a great shock to some of the boys when the blade of energy first appeared in Havarks hands. Havark simply used it to scare them away. He held out hope that they would change and see him for a brother one day as he sees all of them.
The monks took note of this new power and fostered it. They taught Havark in ways not taught in over a hundred years. Havark excelled. He became the best in his class. One on one no other student was a match for the boy. Soon the others looked at him no longer with disdain, but with envy. As they all swore the oath his dream of hope came true and he was finaly excepted among his brothers.
Ten years have passed now since Havark has seen his family. He has made travel back to western Trollheim. He has met with his mother only to learn his father was sent off in the raid with all the warriors of the land. He soon went to see Jarl Asvaldr himself. He presented himself as Havark Torgrimson, member of the Scarlet Sentinels. He pledged his support to the Jarl as his father before him had. He holds out hope that the Jarl will send an expedition to see what became of his fleet.
