Appearance:

Harzhen's skin fades between ebony and dark, bloody red over his entire body. He is completely hairless. He is diminutive for a tiefling at 5’5” (155lbs), and strangely catlike in his movements. His long black tail is similarly feline, although even more flexible and useful. His eyes are a striking green colour, and his teeth are somewhat pointed. His musculature is sharply defined, and though he possesses great strength, his frame is lean rather than bulky. His facial features would be considered strongly handsome if not for his otherwise disturbing physical appearance.

Background:

A son of a minor branch of House Narikopolus, Harzhen has always lived the life of an outsider. Virtually disowned from an early age, he was permitted to live in his family’s small villa in Ostenso so long as he hid himself from view and remained a secret to the outside world. Regardless, he took to archery, his House’s traditional skill, but also became a keen reader. The few stories he could find of true heroism fired his oppressed spirit, and he likewise latched on to philosophical treatises. While the latter often remained somewhat murky to his common intellect, he could still recognise the kernels of wisdom hidden within the academic language of the texts.
He thus trained hard, in mind and body, to create within his diabolical shell a true hero. His family did not care a whit what he did, as long as he was out of sight of both them and the greater community. He grew strong, fast and wise, but the fires inside him found no release in the cage of his existence.
The beast inside yearned for release.
When, at age 52, his aged human parents passed, he simply fled into the night of Ostenso. Knowing little of the reality of his city, his nation, or the world at large, he soon discovered that the ugliness that pervaded his family was a common symptom of the spiritual and societal disease that plagued Cheliax. Though he felt completely separate from most Chelaxians, he recognised yet the bonds of humanity that he shared with his people. Unable to sit idle and watch the evils of the world continue to self-perpetuate, he found himself slowly becoming the hero he had always envisaged himself being.
Thus it is that for twenty years, Harzhen has learned the secrets of his city. He has progressed from an outsider simply striving to survive in an unknown but strangely familiar world, to a protector of the night, who is whispered of in some of the city’s districts as a beneficent, yet frightening protector of the common people. While he has yet to perform any true acts of greatness, his skills as a hunter and warrior have allowed him to begin helping others, in the only way he truly knows.
Violence.
Harzhen truly wishes to use his slowly gained understanding of the human condition to help the people of Cheliax, and the nation itself, in more peaceful ways. Yet the beast that is a part of him rages constantly, wishing to strike out at those who wrong the common people. While he is a creature of the night, a creature of violence, inside him is a pure spirit that struggles to find ways to express itself.

Prison:

Harzhen unfortunately overestimated his abilities. Witnessing corrupt Ostenso guards shaking down a small tavern owner, he gave into the beast, shooting two into unconsciousness with blunted arrows, and engaging three others in melee. He has languished in jail for nearly two weeks, beaten regularly for daring to attack guardsmen, but unwilling to repent. His jailers are considering handing him over to the nearby Order of the Pyre, who would no doubt enjoy destroying such an obviously infernal and tainted creature.
