Huh, so vampires can get lonely. That's...interesting.

"Well, I'll need to think about it some more. But in the meantime..."

He leans forward.

"...I need you to tell me everything you would normally teach a young vampire. I can't do my job properly if I don't understand the ins and outs of vampire society. This Bats incident was a close call, and I don't want to be caught off-guard again."

Harvey sighs and sits back. "That's all, huh? I thought you were a little more cunning than that..."

He shrugs. "Though, if you really don't have a better reason...then I guess that means I have no reason to join your world. Might as well just keep doing my detective thing until the end of time."

I'm trying to goad her into spilling the whole truth. I think this would be an Interrogation, opposed by her Willpower.

Manipulation+Empathy: 4d10 ⇒ (5, 9, 10, 6) = 30 Three successes.

Sheet | Willpower 5 | Blood 7/10

"It's not really a question of 'if'. Eventually, people will start to wonder why I never, ever answer calls during the daytime. As time goes on, they'll notice I don't seem to be getting any older. Sooner or later, Harvey Willinger will have to disappear. I'm...gradually coming to terms with that."

He looks down at the floor.

"But if I step into your world now, it'll be as a nobody. I've got no clout, no domain, and no allies aside from you. And I doubt Brujah's criminal members will be happy to have a private detective in their midst."

Then he looks at Isla again.

"Which brings me to something I've been meaning to ask for a while: Why me? What made you Embrace me instead of sucking me dry? What did you see me contributing to the house Brujah, that it wasn't already getting from its police and gang connections?"

Sheet | Willpower 5 | Blood 7/10

"Nah. This isn't the first time a criminal has threatened me, and it won't be the last."

"And...he deserves to suffer for a long time. It's unprofessional to say that, but it's true. The things he's done, and how long he's been getting away with it...an 'accident' would be too merciful."

Sheet | Willpower 5 | Blood 7/10

"I hope you're right. The last thing I need is to be on the radar of some pissed off elder."

Sheet | Willpower 5 | Blood 7/10

Harvey lets out a satisfied sigh as he pulls away from the man's arm. He almost hates how much he has grown to love the taste.

"Not too bad. Last night I caught some punks who had been causing trouble for a long time. Turns out one of them - called himself Bats - was a ghoul. One of ours. He said his master was some big-shot that I would regret crossing."

He meets Isla's gaze. "You wouldn't happen to know who that is, would you?"

Sheet | Willpower 5 | Blood 7/10

Harvey looks at the man with a mixture of pity...and hunger.

"Thanks, but how much have you had? I don't want to kill the poor bastard."

Sheet | Willpower 5 | Blood 7/10

I'll be in trouble if Bats ever finds a way to contact his master. I need to find out who that is, so I can avoid them.

Harvey heads to the club and looks for Isla.

Sheet | Willpower 5 | Blood 7/10

Sorry, it's been a hectic few weeks.

Damn...what have I gotten myself into?

Harvey puts on a brave face.

"If that's true, then I can't afford to let you go free and rat me out to your boss. I'll have to make sure you aren't a problem for a long time."

He drags Bats back in line with the other two thugs, and points his gun at his back.

"Now get moving. I assume you know the way."

Sheet | Willpower 5 | Blood 7/10

Harvey scowls.

"Then where'd you get that tattoo? You and I both know what that symbol is. I'm not just another cop, Bats. Stop lying, or I can make this a hell of a lot worse for you."

Intimidate: 3d10 ⇒ (3, 9, 10) = 22

Sheet | Willpower 5 | Blood 7/10

And then Harvey started fighting crime in a black cowl with a wide variety of improbable gadgets. He calls himself...Man-Who-Is-Like-A-Bat!

Sheet | Willpower 5 | Blood 7/10

Harvey pulls the ghoul out of earshot from the other men.

"Who's your master?"

Sheet | Willpower 5 | Blood 7/10

Don't I include my 3 points from Celerity?

Sheet | Willpower 5 | Blood 7/10

Harvey takes two quick shots at the men in the dark, blasting their knives out of their hands.

Splitting my dice between two shots. With my pistol specialty, each 10 counts as two successes.
Dex+Firearms: 5d10 ⇒ (10, 5, 2, 7, 5) = 29 2 successes
Dex+Firearms: 4d10 ⇒ (7, 9, 1, 10) = 27 2 successes

Then while remaining in the shadows, he speaks to them in the most threatening voice he can muster.

"Evening, gentlemen. I know one of you is Bats, but I don't really care which. You've had a pretty good run, but now your fun is over. So I will give you a choice: Pick up those knives, run in my general direction, and be gunned down before you can even blink. Or put your hands over your heads, kick your knives over to me - that includes you by the fire - and we'll all take a nice quiet walk to the nearest police station. What'll it be?"

Charisma + (non-existent) Intimidation: 3d10 ⇒ (10, 7, 1) = 18

Sheet | Willpower 5 | Blood 7/10

What would be the DC to shoot one of their knives out of his hand?

Sheet | Willpower 5 | Blood 7/10

Harvey hides behind a nearby wall.

Stealth+Dex: 7d10 ⇒ (10, 4, 2, 6, 6, 4, 1) = 33

Then he picks up a fist-sized piece of rubble and throws it at a spot 5 yards away from himself, hoping the sound will draw the thugs away from the fire.

Throwing (Athletics+Dex): 6d10 ⇒ (7, 4, 8, 2, 7, 4) = 32

Sheet | Willpower 5 | Blood 7/10

How many of them do I see?

Sheet | Willpower 5 | Blood 7/10

Harvey searches the area for evidence of gang activity, and clues to the exact location of their hideout.

Perception+Investigation: 7d10 ⇒ (1, 3, 4, 9, 9, 5, 7) = 38

Sheet | Willpower 5 | Blood 7/10

I can hardly stand that music of hers...I'll call her tomorrow.

Harvey seeks out his minor contacts, asking if they've heard of anyone calling himself "Bats". If they haven't, he'll head home and call Commissioner Silver.

Sheet | Willpower 5 | Blood 7/10

Finally got around to adding my description and goal to my profile. I also came up with a major contact, let me know if it seems alright.

Sheet | Willpower 5 | Blood 7/10

Harvey didn't expect to find any physical evidence, but he had hoped to get some eyewitness accounts. At least one of those homeless people must have been at the park when the attack happened. But the fires...

Come on, you big baby! You don't even have to get that close to talk, maybe twenty feet or so! You'll be safe at that distance...probably...

But he just can't talk himself into it. Every muscle in his body freezes at thought of approaching the flames.

Damn it. I'll have to start from somewhere else. "Bats"...could be some gormless Kindred who's bad at aliases. Only one way to find out.

He slinks off to a deserted alleyway and calls Isla.

Sheet | Willpower 5 | Blood 7/10

Harvey purses his lips and tightly grips his pencil. He takes a moment to choose his next words.

"Thank you. I know how difficult that must have been, but you've helped me a lot."

He starts to put the phone down, but adds: "I will find those thugs. Don't worry." before hanging up.

Heh...always have to try and play the hero, don't you?

He looks over his notes - not much to go on, but hopefully enough to pick up a lead. He puts on his reinforced jacket (+1 soak rolls) and holsters his heavy pistol underneath.

Then he heads toward the Hyde park area.

Sheet | Willpower 5 | Blood 7/10

"It's alright, take as much time as you need."

Harvey gives her a minute to compose herself, while he jots down some notes in a notepad.

"Did they steal anything from you?"

Sheet | Willpower 5 | Blood 7/10

Harvey sets the newspaper aside as he sits down at his desk. Just another day in London. He makes a mental note to look into the ripper incident later tonight.

For now, he decides to call the woman to get more details on the attack, while the evening is still young. He has learned that new clients don't appreciate being woken up late at night for questioning.

Sheet | Willpower 5 | Blood 7/10

So I just roll my initial blood points randomly, right?

1d10 ⇒ 8

Woo!

Sheet | Willpower 5 | Blood 7/10

That sounds about right for a noob vampire. Though I did imagine him having a bit more influence in the mortal world, so I might rearrange my backgrounds a little.

Sheet | Willpower 5 | Blood 7/10

Fair enough.

Sheet | Willpower 5 | Blood 7/10

Harvey is a private detective and vampire, prowling the darkened streets of London. Two years, he was investigating a series of mysterious deaths, and the clues led him to an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of the city. What he couldn't have known was that it was actually the hideout of a small gang of Brujah vampires. The gang leader, a twelfth-generation Kindred named Isla, captured him as he was snooping around. But rather than kill him without a thought, she admired the gumption and courage of the mere mortal who had uncovered their haven. She quickly decided that he would be more useful as an asset than a meal, and Embraced him without a second thought.

Ever since, Harvey has struggled to reconcile his past life and his present unlife. He takes investigation jobs whenever he can, but many clients aren't happy with his insistence on working nights only (which he tells them is due to a "medical condition"). But recently, he finds himself wanting to spend more time with his new "family", and even offering his own advice on navigating the slums of London.

To preserve his sanity, Harvey has set two rules for himself:
1) He will never drain enough blood to endanger or kill his victims (unless he was already planning on doing so, i.e. in self-defense).
2) He won't feed on police officers. He has some valuable contacts in the City of London Police, and does not want to risk them discovering his undead state.
Of course, his Brujah bretheren know that it's only a matter of time before he loses control...

Harvey's current goal is to make a name for himself among the Brujah. If he can get the Rabble to listen to him, he might be able to channel their destructive, rebellious natures into something a little more constructive.
