About Hama the Wayward Witch
Formerly a simple herbalist who lived a comfortable life as a respected (and much sought after) member of her village in Cheliax, everything changed for Hama when she started showing the first symptoms of motor neuron disease. The tragic disease slowly stripped her of her independence, ultimately leaving her permanently paralyzed and mute. Local clerics were unable to stave off the advancement of the disease, much less cure it, as it proved to be genetic in nature (it is literally part of Hama’s natural state). Hama suffered for months as a scant handful of people gave her token assistance, allowing her to do little more than survive—worse yet, many of the villagers she once loved showed their true nature during this time, and were abusive and cruel to her. Desperate for a means of escape, Hama silently pleaded with the cosmos. Her pleas were answered, though she knows not by what. In her delirious bargaining, a deal was struck, and for better or for worse, she was granted power. Not just the power to move again, but the power of hags, the power of a witch, the power to get her revenge.
Hama used her newfound magic to conceal her new abilities and to trick her abusers into believing that she was still helpless. When the time was right, she saw to it that her abusers fell victim to an unfortunate “accident” involving tainted food. Fearing the poisonings would be discovered, she set a fire to burn any potential evidence of her crime and fled her village to begin a new life elsewhere.
Now alone in the world with nothing but her witchcraft and her familiar to aid her, Hama has taken up with the Pathfinder Society, offering her services as a healer, fortune teller, and general handywoman in return for housing and protection as she makes her way in the world.
