Background:

I remember waking, one day, in a scorched, dead forest, bare black bones all that remained of what had so recently been so green. Before that, well, it’s a mystery to me who I was. It’s still a mystery to me now.

I know this: one parent, elven - long lived, graceful, wise; the other, human - brave, painfully mortal, impulsive. I knew neither. Nor did I know childhood friends, toys, pets. I woke that morning burned afresh, along with all about me.

I had acquaintances, of course. Small, dark wisps of smoke accompany me at all times, tugging and murmuring at my shoulder. Call me to spark, to smoulder, to smoke. Urge me, finally, to fire and flame.

In my dreams, I see them still, my parents: smiling tenderly at me, reaching out, for soft, peaceful moments. Then the sparks fall like rain, about them and upon them. The blaze devours them. Everything must eventually spiral into flame.

And thus we are consumed - before we wake.

===

Haelvor Thawne (a name he later adopted, being that of a character he found in a history book) awoke, as he says, in a burned out forest, with no memory of his past. After wandering the woods for what seemed an age, he eventually alighted in Magnimar, where he found work and peaceful purpose, for a while, as a librarian at the Founders’ Archive, under the supervision of Brodert Quink.

But after an incident when his talents, urges and voices all unfortunately found common cause with the library’s contents, he fled to Sandpoint, there to join his former mentor. Grateful for Quink’s hospitality, and at something of a loose end, he has decided to reinvent himself as an adventurer, and to defend Quink’s new home.

Appearance and Demeanour:

Haelvor is a tall, white haired half-elf, more elven than human in looks. He wears his white-blond hair long, around his pale, angular face. Beneath his armour, he favours clothes of red, yellow and black. Haelvor tends to be quietly spoken and apparently calm, hiding the fact that he is constantly hearing the voices of the “wisps” as he (secretly) calls the many small dark beings, always just at the edge of his vision, who constantly prick and poke, and who sometimes scream, at his psyche. Sometimes, the constant chatter becomes too much, calling out Haelvor’s fiery powers; but mostly he keeps it in check, and will appear a friendly, perhaps somewhat sensitive but always polite personality, with a penchant for books.
