BACKGROUND
TRAIT/HOOK – Personal addiction
Haedrik is part con-man, part gambler, and complete rake. He fills his days with wine and gambling, and fills the ears of those who will listen with tales of when he was a member of the Korvosan Guard. These tales inevitably lead to his story of being booted out because Queen Ileosa was so very attracted to him.
Of course, these tales are complete fabrications. Haedrik grew up an orphan on the streets of Korvosa. Only his quick wits and quick feet kept him alive. Eventually, as many street urchins do, he found himself working for a man named Lamm. Lamm sensed an independent streak in Haedrik and tried quieting it with a forced addiction to shiver. For 4 long and miserable years, Haedrik found himself chained to Lamm’s gang by the steel links of addiction. He only managed to break free after witnessing Lamm feed one of Haedrik’s friends to his pet croc. Sufficiently scared Haedrik fled Lamm’s care and weathered the withdrawal symptoms under the care of a local innkeeper, the gnome Jazbarl. Since then Haedrik has worked as a bouncer, dishwasher, and cook for the gnome in return for room and board.
Haedrik is smart, funny, and outgoing. He is also rash, foolish, and quick to judge. He loves gambling, drinking, and womanizing. Despite his roguish ways, he possesses sympathy for all the wayward children like him.
