"Ok. You and Willy take the lead, I'll guard the rear."

"You think this little pest had friends? I think the wolves can wait until we have determined this."

"Great! Now what do we do about these wolves? I'd hate to kill them if we don't have too. But, I put odds on what we are looking for will just happen to be beyond these doors."

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
.
Wow, what are the odds?

Str check 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17

Haunrar slams the door shut behind Thumpy.

Deelin, your not completely off base here.

I don't think we need to go so far as a complete grid system, but a round summary would be nice. Another thing that would help me would be to not complete the round on the creatures actions, but merely state the actions of the creature. Wait for the rest of us to post our actions. then summarize because I was thrown off waiting to see what the wolfs would do, then suddenly I am told my PC did a swing and a miss when that might not have been what I was gong to do.

Darkmoon Valer wrote:

Deelin, of course it wasn't in your posted actions, since there was no posted action from you.

What do you find irregular about the initiative order I posted?

the initiative order wasn't the problem. It was that I already had to change one action because I misunderstood what could be done in a surprise round. Then again, I had made an action based on the map, but the map was changed after my action in a way that made my action pointless. I just didn't want to post an action before my initiative, only to have the kobold (or kobolds) or wolves do something that would have changed my action once again, since they would have done it before me in the round.

Deadlock is a common problem in PbP games, where each player is waiting for the other to post. When in doubt post something.

"Back up!" Willy says to Althesia.

I had already had to change my actions twice this encounter. I didn't want to have to do it a third time. I wouldn't have waited if it were another player. I just wanted to know what the wolves and kobold would do.

Map

When did that happen?
When you didn't post for almost a week and I made your actions for you.

I move after the wolves and the kobold,so I was waiting to see what they did.

Map

When did that happen?

Casts Grease on the corner of the room the wolves are in.
DC 13 Reflex save or fall down.

I noticed that you changed the map since I posted the casting of the grease spell. I wouldn't have cast it with the wolves in that position, so I am canceling that action and instead I'll attack the nearest wolf that is behind the door. I think it may have some cover, but can't remember the rule off the top of my head.

""CAYDEN CAILEAN, Thumpy! Get the f#&@ out of there!" Haunrar swings his falchion futily at the wolf. "And close that damn door behind you!"
Attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Damage 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (3, 3) + 4 = 10

Surprise round. Damn, I forgot and was waiting for the wolves to act. Sorry. Here it goes.

Haunrar moves the spot that Thumpy just vacated.
"Hey wolves, I bet you weren't expecting such a slippery surprise!"

Casts Grease on the corner of the room the wolves are in.
DC 13 Reflex save or fall down.

Initiative 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Haunrar digs a pinky into his ear for a couple seconds, then pulls out a bit of wax and flicks it onto the floor. "Hmm."

Haunrar listes at that first door on the left.

Perception 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Haunrar heads north down the hallway.

While Willy goes in, Haunrar has his falchion out and guards the rear.

Perception 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14

Orcish:
Here.

Haunrar comes to the entrance and looks around as well before going back to keeping his eye on the hallway.

Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Haunrar is keeping watch down the hallway, facing north.

Haunrar offers Althesia a boost to reach the book.

Haunrar is looking at the book.

1d2 ⇒ 1

Fort 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
.
If possible, Haunrar will cast detect magic.

Haunrar attempts to determine if this is the fungus they are looking for.

Knowledge (nature) 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

"Fine by me," Haunrar responds, gripping his falchion and heading south.

"Hey Willy. Think we should try getting up that tower again?"

"Haunrar here." he says. "It's been a rough coupla' days. Glad to meet you."

Waking up refreshed, Haunrar stretches, yawns, and the says to Deelin. [b]"Can you track that thing that prowled in the night. Willy. Althesia. You two ok?" Since Willard looks worse for wear, Haunrar decides it prudent to cast another healing spell on him.

CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

"Who knows?" the young half-orc sniffs. "I am all out of spells though."

I don't mind mighty morphin Haunrar into a cleric or Paladin if need be. I'll just have to play a bard some other time.

I was wondering. I didn't roll high but your page said 5 hps left, so I was withholding.

With the threat of immediate danger gone, Haunrar chants some encouraging orcish words and hovers his free hand over Deelin's wound, which starts to smoke and bubble under the half-orc's outstretched palm.

CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

"I'm outta spells now, and a little hurt too. Willy don't look so well either. We should be careful from here on out."

Haunrar recasts the Dancing Lights spell, and directs the orbs to hover around the door way. He readies his falchion for further action.

Deelin wrote:
Regaining consciousness Deelin splutters Wha....what happened? as he shakes his head clearing it.

"That thing freakin' almost ate you. How're you holding up? I tried a spell, but I don't think it did much."

Then instead of my last post...

Haunrar, seeing Willy dispatch the last darkmantle immediately rushes over to Deelin's prone form, chanting the words to a healing spell.

Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

After the creature drops around him, Haunrar considers for a split second his next action. He almost changes his tune from the courage chant to the one that creates lights, but he decides that he might as well keep attacking, figuring his spell stopped early for a reason.

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Damage: 2d4 + 5 ⇒ (1, 1) + 5 = 7

Huanrar, maintain his orcish war chant, whips his falchion in an overhand arc at the creature Deelin is fighting.

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Damage: 2d4 + 5 ⇒ (3, 4) + 5 = 12
.
Confirm Crit:
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Dmg: 2d4 + 5 ⇒ (3, 2) + 5 = 10
.
Any chance of exploding crits? ;P

Haunrar starts up an orcish war chant, which sounds a little like two rocks banging off of each other in orcish.

Inspire Courage (Su):+1 bonus to attack & dmg; +1 saves vs charm and fear on Haunrar's turn.

"What the..?"

Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

"Anvil, sure," Haunrar also looks around for the elusive shroom.

[ooc]Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

"Sounds like a plan, man. Let's find that fungus."

Haunrar keeps the dancing lights moving with Willy wherever goes so he can see.

Haunrar wiggles his fingers and mumbles a chant under his breath, suddenly four flames appear in the air in front of Willy, illuminating the corridor in front of Willy.

Casts Dancing Lights

"Before we light a torch, I can scout ahead. When I see what is going on, I'll send down a light.'" Haunrar moves past Willy, silently creeping to the end of the passageway.

Stealth: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16

I thought it was a subtle way of asking if we could see or not.

Gotcha.

Haunrar follows Willy through the door.

Darkmoon Valer wrote:

The door opens to a long hallway. At the east end of the hallway is a ruined dwarven statue.

Map

I think Willy opened the double doors to the west and Deelin opened to the hallway that you showed. Correct?

"Deelin, that sounds like a good idea. What if you and Althesia provide cover fire with the bow from behind while Willy opens that door? I'll stay with Willy. I got a nice slippery surprise for them if they are still still there. I didn't hear anything but that doesn't mean they weren't there."
