Gruth was raised in the river kingdoms to be a fell rider by his town of hobgoblins. After serving in his town’s militia for a few years, he was sent to investigate growing number of humans raiding other tribes in the area. Upon his return, Gruth found his entire village slain. The only clue to his town’s killers were two dead dwarven bodies buried in some rubble that must have been missed when the attacking force left, and some mysterious dwarven runes on the ground in the middle of the village. Since that day Gruth has taken his loyal horse Gobplodder on a mission on vengeance. Systematically raiding further and further north, slaying bandits as he goes hoping he might find the band of dwarves that was responsible for his tribe’s slaughter, along with any survivors that might have been captured.
It was on one such excursion that he overhead some humans from the kingdom of Brevoy talking about bands of adventurers being paid and sent to explore the river kingdoms and drive out the bandits in the area. He quickly started offering his services, discreetly without ever meeting in person and delivering on his promises of bandit heads. His herald ____ learned of a chance for them to be sent on such an excursion and so Gruth finally met with some representatives of Brevoy, counting on his past experience and reliability to cover him from the shock of him being a hobgoblin. He filled out the application to be sent and is now eagerly awaiting their response. Gruth thought why kill bandits for free when you can kill bandits for money, having already been through some of the river kingdom lands, the exploration and mapping part wouldn’t be to difficult either.
