Grungar can never go home again. His family were farmers minding herds of goats, and tending the surface lands of their Kingdom hidden deep in the northern reaches of the vast and deadly Yatil mountains. An ugly, and unmotivated youth Grun spent most of his time alone, working as a goat herd, and an abnormal amount of time on the surface learning to love nature. Animals were far less demanding than his fellow dwarves so he naturally gravitated towards them, often caring for injured critters.
Even his own family despaired of their peculiar light lover son, and eventually only his younger sister Sekka had anything to do with him. Sekka to was fascinated by fuzzy critters and helped care and feed various invalid animals. For the most part it was a simple, happy, goat rich life.
Then Grungar found a wounded bear and her cub, pitiful wailing things crying over their wounded mother. Grun and Sekka could not help but try to assist, but confused, wounded, and fearful for her cub the bear snatched Sekka into a deadly embrace. By the time Grungar's frantic efforts pried his sister free the light had left her eyes and the mother bear had joined her in death.
Mortified and with nobody who truly cared for him left in the world Grungar sentenced himself to banishment. Taking the cub he slowly made his way out of the mountains having no care for direction, and no desire to ever return. When he finally reached civilized lands he appended slag to his Clan name, knowing he would do nothing but tarnish it otherwise and decided to live as he pleased.
Since then he has roamed the wilderness for several decades, living off the land and haphazardly training several generations of bears while occasionally working as a mercenary or last choice healer to earn coin.
He speaks Druidic poorly and only because of the reluctant acknowledgement of a number of druid circles. But he has never had much patience for formalizing his magic and the frosty reception he has been offered has put him off seeking other druids.
Appearance:
From a distance Grungar looks like a dung heap, as wide as he is tall, covered in mangey skins and fur. Given his flame red hair the heap might be on fire. Most of the penetrating aroma comes from the various bits of dead animal hanging about his person - to dry their skins, for Brunt, or for jerky purposes. A jovial fellow the bulky dwarf smiles often, revealing a set of ghastly teeth that are more black than yellow, and more broken than whole, explaining his habit of sucking his food into submission - loudly.
His aggressively plain face and massive hairy hamhock forearms are covered in crisscrossed scars earned in a life time spent trying to help ungrateful furballs who seem to invariably misunderstand his kind intentions - possibly because of the array of carrion strapped about his body.
By his side is a well groomed young black bear wearing a set of oft patched studded leather armor. Brunt is black with a hint of red and has just filled out from slender cubhood to take on something like an adults bulk.
Personality:
A kind and gentle soul would who is always hurt by others reaction to him, but hides it with crude humor, and a gruff demeanour. Grungar finds animals fascinating, adorable, and delicious, in roughly equal measure, and hates wasting their lives, hence his desire to make use of every part of a carcass. When given the opportunity he is a brave and loyal, if somewhat malodorous, companion.
