Growler is a slender, lean-muscled female Gray Wolf, standing just under 3' in height at the shoulders, and weighing about 110 lbs. Her fur ranges from creamy gray at the legs and belly, blending to a darker shade running from her neck to the rump. The white-furred, puckered scar running from the middle of her muzzle to just below her golden left eye makes Growler easy to distinguish from other Gray Wolves. She is probably just under two years old.

Aishe still does not know how Growler gained her scar. She first encountered the wolf during a foray into the Border Wood at the end of last summer, and was unsurprised when the animal followed her back to Heldren, as so many woodland creatures did. However Growler did not turn back into the forest once they reached the village, following Aishe right up to Old Mother Theodora's cottage door, and steadfastly refused any encouragement to leave. She has been Aishe's companion since that time. She is very protective of the young sorceress, snarling and growling when anyone she doesn't know approaches.
