Face Cards are my favorite of the card sets, so I'm a little bit worried that there don't seem to be any more sets scheduled on the pipeline (and the last set was came much later than anticipated). Also, there haven't been any campaign cards in a good long while (I mine those for additional face cards).

Are there any plans for face cards to return in the future? I'm fiending pretty badly for them at the moment.

Lord Gyr of House Gixx is Lord Gary of House Gygax.
His less successful rival and childhood friend Lord Arnson is Lord (Dave) Arneson.

Mind blown. Are there any other little tributes like this hidden in Golarion?


This preview... Wow! Three for three!

Although I already have some PPM sea devils, they're a race that attacks in large numbers, so being able to add some variety is nice. I love these. Love, love, love them.

I'm a big fan (BIG FAN) of the Gamemastery Face Cards series. I'm curious, though, about which characters are featured on the cards. The Rise of the Runelords set has all of the characters' names on the back, so that's pretty obvious, but has anyone compiled a list of which characters are featured in the Friends any Foes, Enemies and Urban NPCs decks? Perhaps with the corresponding card numbers, so that a novice like myself can match them up?

I've seen people on this board mention that they know who all of the NPCs featured are, but I've never seen the list compiled. Any help that people could give would be appreciated.


I was looking over the chase rules in the SRD, and I came across the following suggestion:

Assign each obstacle a DC to successfully navigate or overcome. A trivial obstacle is DC 10, a simple obstacle is DC 15, a standard obstacle is DC 20, a difficult obstacle is DC 25, and a very difficult obstacle is DC 30. For high-level chases, feel free to assign correspondingly high-level DCs. When assigning obstacles, it's best to have the DCs of both obstacles on a card be within 5 points of each other, but never identical—this forces participants to make tactical choices.

Which makes sense to me, but then I noticed that in the sample chase, it seems that not one of the five contested rolls had DCs within 5 points of each other.

So I was wondering, am I reading this incorrectly? If not, and the suggested rule and the sample chase really do contradict one another, which method is the one that Paizo actually thinks is better?


The kraken is one of the iconic monsters, and I've been thinking for a while about throwing one as a high-level encounter in my campaign. Looking over the kraken's stats, I noticed the seemingly dramatic Rend Ship ability, which seems intended to make the kraken a credible threat to seagoing vessels.

Unfortunately, Rend Ship only effects ships that are the kraken's size or smaller, and the only ship (per Pathfinder's published vehicle rules) that fits in that category is the rowboat. Finding out that the kraken, a primal horror of legendary proportions, is mostly restricted to menacing the craft of weekend fishing buddies seems underwhelming to me.

Has there been any sort of errata for this, and if not, how do you handle it in your games? I considered the Giant simple template, but at that level, it seems not terribly cost effective.

I spent some time this morning thinking about the cavalier, and checking my books, I noticed something. I have two books that have pictures of Alain (the iconic cavalier) in them. He's featured three times in the Advanced Players Guide, and once in whichever Bestiary features the Ogre Spider (which he's featured fighting). Four pictures total, and he's riding his mount in exactly none of them.

A lot of the problem with selling people on the cavalier is that many of the class features are tied to the mount, and for a lot of people Pathfinder/D&D doesn't really feature much mounted combat. For better or worse, artwork goes a long way towards determining how players envision the game world, and when Pathfinder products feature the iconic mounted combat expert never engaging in mounted combat, it impacts how much use the cavalier class gets.

It's just a thought, and I might be wrong, but it would be nice to see some artwork of Alain doing what cavaliers do best.


What are the chances that we'll be getting a new set of GameMastery Face Cards in the near future? I really like that three sets that I have, but it's been a while since we've seen anything new on this front.


Ok, I've found about a billion lists of what spells will make your wizard a gawd and how to pick the most effective spells for a cleric, but as a DM, I'm really interested in how to get the most mileage from my adepts.

Assume that the adept in question is supporting a group of five warriors of the same level that he is. What are the best spells to select at each level? What are some tips and tricks that can make this fella shine?


I've been impatiently waiting for this to come out ever since I got my grubby little hands on the Friends and Foes deck. I've instructed the owner of my FLGS to place an order ASAP. Keep up the good work, Paizo!
