The sign over the front door shows a shepherd with a crooked staff but no sheep. This must be The Lost Shepherd Inn! The word on the street is that there are three taverns in Brindenford, but this is the one that appeals to those interested in exploring the ruins and dangers of the nearby dungeon. If you are to find others of like mind to aid in the expedition to the fabled Delve, this must be the right place.

Inside, the building’s great age cannot be concealed by the frequent obvious repairs, and so the interior is drafty and dusty. But, fires in multiple fireplaces keep the place comfortably warm. The taproom is large and comfortable, with a high-placed loft above the door offering additional seating. A wide staircase in the back corner leads from the loft up to the second and third stories.

As you enter, a middle-aged halfling, his black hair only just starting to gray, calls a greeting from behind the bar. "Howdy, traveler! Welcome to the Lost Shepherd." The halfling's wide smile reveals a gold tooth that gleams in the firelight.

Monte Cook's Dungeonaday.com

It's fantastic, and I can't stand not using it. I have to run some players through this! I don't have a RL game group at the moment, so let's try it PBP.

I'm an experienced real life DM (since the mid-80s), but this would be my first foray into the world of PBP. I'm looking for five or six players who are in the mood for a great dungeon crawl that mixes old-school design sensibilites with modern creativity as only Monte can bring it. A game set almost entirely in the dungeon could easily bog down, I fear, so regular daily posting would be a must. We could run this using Pathfinder rules or D&D 3.5, I'm flexible. First level characters to start, but we'll work out all such details later. First, I need players! If the response to this post is strong, I will select players in some fashion. It won't be on a first-come first-served basis.

Now, who wants to go crawling in the Dragon's Delve?

Greetings all,

I realize that August is still a good way off, but I'm starting to get my thoughts together now for a pbp I'd like to run using the PFRPG rules. I might do Crypt of the Everflame, or I might dive into Council of Thieves. But, that's a decision to be made later. For now, as a rookie PBP DM, I am wondering if there are any pearls of wisdom to be shared by other DMs who have successfully sustained games over the long haul. What works well, what doesn't? I know that a lot of these games fizzle out, but why? Specific questions I have include:

1. What's the best way to select players for the game? First come, first served? Random draw? 'Judging' the applicants in some manner?

2. How do you maintain player interest to keep them posting regularly? How do you prevent DM burnout?

3. How do you handle die rolling? All DM all the time, or players take responsibility for their own? How do you prevent cheating?

4. How do you handle combat? Are combat maps a necessity? If so, what's the best way to make them?

I appreciate any and all feedback you may have on these or other topics. Thanks for your time!
