About Grakthis, "The Scrap Minder"

Personality:

Grakthis is often certain in their correctness and assumes that other creatures are as communal as the copaxi and, thus, are aware of "common" traditions and taboos. When greeting another, even a fellow Starfinder, they approach with their arms angled slightly out to the side, empty palms facing forward. When they approach within about 30 feet of the greeted guest, they spin in a slow circle. Then they wait to see what the guest will do, remaining completely silent as they expect others to respond in the same fashion—arms out, palms forward, and a slow spin—before speaking or approaching. If others approach closer than 30 feet, attempt to shake hands, or bow, the Grakthis grows visibly uncomfortable, shifting awkwardly and turning their faces away.

Bowing is considered aggressive due to copaxi antlers. Speaking before performing the spinning gesture is a taboo sign of malicious magic. Physical contact with any copaxi is not recommended unless it has been specifically invited. This is due to copaxi antlers, which feel quite rough, like fine coral or sandpaper, though they appear smooth.

Grakthis is forthright and curious, to a fault. They are not afraid to speak their mind openly and expect others to do the same.

Background:

Rather than using the Signal to explore the stars, the copaxis of Tabrid Minor used the technological theories to rapidly industrialize. Over the course of the following three centuries, the copaxis rapidly expanded their civilization across the surface, mining copi wherever they find it. As they destroyed the substance, the copaxis lost most of their mystical connection to the planet— and most of their powers. They turned to robots to expedite the dangerous mining process and fill necessary roles in their burgeoning industrial society. But just as the efficient robot work force completed their tasks and became superfluous, the machines began to develop rudimentary sentience. The copaxi government found the moral implications of these creatures abhorrent and engaged in several short but effective campaigns to destroy the now-unnecessary robots. The government's official
story was that the robots behaved erratically after a gravitational
fluctuation, warranting their decommissioning.

However, unofficially, the copaxis trained special operatives to seek out and destroy any remnants of the "robot threat". Known as "scrap minders", these highly-trained and secretive operatives enjoyed a certain prestige and autonomy unknown to other copaxi.

This all changed with the coming of the Starfinders to their planet. With the true history of the "robot uprising" exposed and more enlightened views taking root within the copaxi government, there was no longer a need for "scrap minders". Yet, the arrival of the Starfinders also brought with it an alternative use for the trained operatives--the defense of the Pact Worlds and opportunities for exploration of other ancient forms of technology. Seizing this opportunity, the scrap minder known as Grakthis joined the Starfinder Society.

Special Abilities

Gravity Adjustment (Su) Retaining some of their ancient connection to the universe’s gravitational forces, a copaxi can adjust their personal gravity as a standard action. They can treat high or low gravity as standard gravity or treat standard gravity as high or low gravity. These adjustments affect only the copaxi and anything they carry, but not thrown weapons. A copaxi can’t adjust to or from extreme or zero gravity. This adjustment remains in effect until the copaxi spends another standard action to return to their environment’s natural gravity. Entering an environment with a different gravity also cancels the copaxi’s ongoing gravitational adjustment.
Regenerative Evolution A copaxi gradually reshapes their body and neural networks to overcome new challenges. Each time a copaxi gains a level, they can retrain all the choices of one previous character level, as though they had used a mnemonic editor (Core Rulebook 226). They must have qualified for any new selections at the retrained level.
