Stealth Check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

Gordom attempts to silently climb the hill, and as he crouches it appears that his experience in the woods is serving him well. That is until his foot finds a dry twig...

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

Just checking in to say hi. Still away to foreign lands but making sure all is going well for the rest of the group.

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

Well, tomorrow the navy will send me to foreign shores for a yet unknown period of time. I will try to continue updating as often as possible, but I will not be able to promise anything. I should return sometime in October, probably closer to the end. If I can't post at all, then it was fun playing with you guys and I'll check back in a few months from now. If I can still get to a computer, I'll post as often as I'm able.

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

"I'm trying to be a good sport about the whole sitting-on-my-head thing. Please don't push it.

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

And what of the Grigs and your people, Perly? Do you have a stake in this as well? It would be rash of our group to attack the mites if doing so would throw your entire forest into disarray."

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

"Well, the mites have stolen something precious from a good friend of ours so we did aim to try and teach them a lesson. But these biggineses you recognized are reformed; they don't steal from people any more. Do you think we could negotiate with the mites as well? As the smartest creature in the forest I'm sure you can tell us the extent of what the mites have done."

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

Gordom, feeling rather grumpy and irritated from the past several minutes of time he could have been asleep, grabs the key from Shix and starts to undo the manacles.

Addressing the girl under the cart, Gordom attempts to figure out why their party has been the target of these pranks or at least keep the girl talking long enough for Najara to get another read on her location.

"So the tiny dragon's name is Perlivash? The Ginger's name is Vivian and mine is Gordom. What's yours?"

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

Vivian, stop that. I'm sure Najara doesn't want you messing up her manacles. Besides, Shix just got down the key.

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

Unfortunately, I don't think Vivian or I are cut out for climbing a tree while cuffed together so it's either one of you three or Franco.

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

Does my knowledge roll reveal anything I might have heard about the creature's disposition? Are they usually harmless pranksters or have I heard stories that would lead me to be concerned?

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

The key!

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

Vivian, I don't remember for sure but I don't think the joker ever butt bumped batman.

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

"You are infuriatingly impossible to stay mad at. Let's just find these damn keys and try and figure out what's been going on"

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

"You laugh on a hunt, the deer hears you, it escapes. You have no food. You have no furs. The only question now is whether the cold or the hunger kills you first. You've seen death, but have you ever seen him when he's coming for you? It's a different world we grew up in, city-girl."

From Vivian's perspective, looking into Gordom's eyes, it's possible to see that her words have softened him a little but he's not ready to give up on his anger just yet.

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

Spoiler:

Perception 2:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Gordom frantically checks his trousers before he realizes Vivian was just messing with him.

By the gods, is there ever a time when you're serious? How did you ever make it in a temple of Pharasma? I thought her followers were supposed to be solemn people.
Has anyone found Najara's key yet?

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

Gordom is not the least bit amused at Vivian's happy go lucky attitude and lets her know with a scowl.

You need to take this a lot more seriously. Sure, these are harmless pranks but whoever did this was probably also the one who unstrung my bow and tied your ankles; things that could have gotten us hurt if the fight was against anything more dangerous than a couple of kobolds.
But the real problem is that whoever or whatever is doing this has so far been able to do so without us being able to detect or prevent it in any way. And the fact that something with that kind of power has taken an interest in toying with us is not something to laugh about. Some of legends' pranksters are notorious for not knowing the difference between a harmless prank and a deadly one.

Knowledge Nature: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

Shocked awake by the blow to his ribs, Gordom bolts upright. His right hand is already halfway to his mace when it comes to a sudden stop.

"Wha-...What's going on?

Seeing Najara rushing around the camp, Gordom calls out to hear while trying to gentle awaken the sleeping girl.

Najara, what's going on?
...Are these your manacles on my wrist? What the hell, Najara?

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

Hey, I have my specialty and you have yours. You're the one trying to muscle in and start taking over MY specialty. You've never once seen me start babbling uselessly in battle, have you? I think not. I let you have that one.

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

Hey, I'll find the mite trail again when we're ready. Right now we are having character specific actions going on.

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

"While I agree that it's not ideal, I just don't see a way to ensure that we can trust Jesse with his freedom. Considering that we were instructed to execute any bandits we find, however, I think he will agree that this is a more pleasant alternative. When a solution presents itself, we will reconsider the situation."

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

Deciding they aren't worth the arrows, Gordom puts his bow away.
"Those kobolds were too inept to have pulled off those tricks with the vine and my bow. I want to know how someone managed to get the drop on us this way."
Survival Check to look for signs of tracks other than the kobolds':1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

Having finally restrung his bow, Gordom scans about for a new target.
If it's possible to shoot at one of the fleeing kobolds, I'll do that (it's only a random encounter but Gordom's instincts are still to prevent escapees from bringing more). If they are out of sight I'll shoot at any random kobold still fighting.
Attack roll:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Damage roll:1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Edit: Wow, I am really just no good at killing anything that isn't a bandit.

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

Okay, I do have to ask. What is Franco doing during all this? I was under the impression that he wasn't bound at all, he was just under watch. So is he helpin fight, attempting to escape, or just cowering uselessly in the cart? And should we be worried about his friend trying to escape?

And thank you for the well-wishes Vivian. They are appreciated.

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

Is the whips of smoke the kobolds are trailing due to a natural phenomenon such as light fog in the area or is it something we can make a knowledge check on?

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

Well, the handy iPhone has all the symbols I need for dice rolls, I might just have shorter and less frequent posts for a little while. I believe I'll be going on deployment soon after reaching my new station. I don't know how that will affect my posting ability, but it may be worthwhile to allow the dm to take over Gordom during that period or recruit another player. It's up to you guys if it becomes a problem.

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

I want to apologize for my lack of posts. I'm in the navy and I just got reassigned so I'm moving across the country and posting from my iPhone. I'll try to update as often as I can.

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

Gordom draws his bow and begins to eye out a target.
Im going to shoot either the kobold that appears to be doing the most damage or the one closest to a member of the party. What is Franco doing during this? He is free so I was just curious if he was going to help us fight. And don't think I haven't noticed the sudden shift away fom human enemies. I find this suspicious.

Attack roll:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

whatever makes you happy, gnome
"Huh, can't imagine how I missed that. I guess it's always good to have another set of eyes."

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

It's easy to forget that we have at least a half dozen horses an a cart-full of random swag with us.
"Franco has a point."
Now where to set up camp...

Does the cave dead end here or are there further extensions? Does it look like anyone else has been inside it or has begun to mine the vein?

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

Gordom retrieves one I the torches from Beor's saddle bags, lights it, and hands it to shix.

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

"I don't mind if someone follows behind with a torch."

If someone volunteers to carry the torch, Gordom will take out his mace and cautiously approach the shiny thing. You don't have to crouch in this tunnel, do you?

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

"What do you see, friend?"

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

Possible precaution could be to have Vivian and najara in the back of the cart as well in order to keep an eye on the two bandits and to watch our backs. Other than that, I will keep as much of a lookout as possible while assisting Juwwem. I know that the gnomes pretty much filled us in on mites, but I would like to make a check of my own solely to see how much Gordom already knew. I doubt it will reveal any new information, but what the heck: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

Are we taking care of (healing) Franco?

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

While we are talking out of character I must admit that I, as a player, completely forgot about Franco. Gordom, however, is going to be unwilling to just leave the man behind in the state he is in after all that he's done for us. Gordom hopes that he can save and reform Franco, and now hopefully Jesse, so he's not going to want to leave until there is some kind of solution to the problem other than leave them tied up in the cart until we get back.
I would propose, since Robertness has declared this a new day but the day is also already halfway over, that Juwwem heal everyone who needs it (Najara, Franco and Gordom) and then we possibly see if Franco can in anyway add to Jesse's information before we set off after the mites. I know this isn't a perfect solution, but we have been a pretty RP heavy group and it would be something of a disservice if Gordom just left his new friend lying unconscious in the dirt.

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

Well, if Najara really is only at 3 it might not be a bad idea to heal her. 3 hit points is just an average roll on practically any weapon.

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

Is it a new day since we took the camp or not? Does Juwwem have any heal spells left because both Franco and I could use one. And do we have any cure light wounds potions, because I seem to be an arrow magnet.

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

Sounds good to me. So am I scouting or bringing ya'll? Either way, survival check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

"Should we try and go after the arms before we go for the head? Jesse, do you know where any of these other bands are?"

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

Um..duh. We are adventurers. We don't know the meaning of Out of Depth challenges and running is never an option. We tackle every challenge head on and would rather TPK than run. Such is the life of the hack and slash role player.

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

"How about a compromise? If the intent is to spend the day resting, I will instead scout the trail and see how far along it I can get in half a day's journey. If I am able to find the tree the mites live in in only that time, then taking care of the problem immediately would only take a couple extra days at most. If, on the other hand, I am unable to reach the tree, then I will make a note of where I left the trail and we can try to regain it at a later time after we deal with the Stag Lord. Would this be agreeable to everyone?

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

"While I certainly agree with you on needing every advantage, I don't know if surprise will do us much good in this situation. It has worked so well for us in the past because we were dealing with a small and disorganized band who weren't expecting anyone to fight back. The Stag Lord lives in a fortress and has a guard that is bigger than this group. Even if we did catch them with their pants down, so to speak, it is unlikely we would be able to press the advantage as easily as we did here. No offense to Jesse or Franco, but we were able to completely take over their base camp in 30 seconds. That won't happen here."

Realizing that he has been rambling, Gordom stops and starts again.
"What I'm trying to say is that I don't think surprise will be as critical of a factor, and if it is we will probably need to create our own anyway. On the other hand, retrieving this ring is the least kindness we can show to a couple who has taken us into their home and offered us every kindness. And since squirrels seem an unreliable source of concrete information our best bet is to follow this trail. A trail that won't still be here if we leave and come back later. The Stag Lord isn't going anywhere."

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

Awww...take away all of my fun. It wasnt a serious suggestion.

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

"Well, one of the things that needs to be decided is whether we first go after the...wait a minute. Juwwem can you still speak with animals? When Shix and I went for the horses something had scared them whjile we were gone. Any chance you could figure out what it was?"

Regardless of Juwwem's answer, Gordom continues. "What needs to be decided is whether we first go after the mites or the Stag Lord. I would suggest the mites as we have the least information about them. We know where the Stag Lord lives and chances are he will still be there in a couple of days. Since the only information we have about the mites is their trail and that they live in a sicamore tree, it makes sense to go while the trail is still fresh."

Now, the squirrel really did mean sicamore right? Not Sycamore, a type of tree? can I make a knowledge nature check to see if I have any idea what he's talking about?

"As for retrieving Oleg's cart, I think it's a brilliant job for Andarr. But it takes to long to be a good idea for the rest of us. It would be a 40 hour round trip even with the horses. Since it's the start of a new day we should probably make a decision, tend wounds, and head after one of these two groups."

Male Human Ranger/1; HP 9/11; AC 15/12/13; Init +2

"Well, as you saw we have a pretty fair amount of fight ourselves. Is he usually alone?"
