First off, if this is the wrong place to post this, I apologize.

Second: the prices for items made of special materials don't seem to be calculated correctly on the "special nonmagical items page (page 356). The price for a mithral chain shirt is listed at 1,800gp, but I come up with 1,564.5gp (45sp shirt price + 1,200gp cost of a 2 bulk master mithral item + 360gp master item cost = 1,564.5gp).

Now I'm sure I'm missing something and that the price in the boom is actually correct, but I can't find out what it is for the life of me. Could someone help me figure this out? What am I missing that would add 235.5gp to the price?

My friends and I were building first level characters, and we ran into a question that we did eventually find the answer to.

1. When choosing skills to make trained at first level, can you use a "boost" to bring a skill from untrained to trained, can you train it up to expert?
2. What about if it's already trained from your background, can you then?

Based off of our best reading, watching the character creation stream, and buying the Herolab Online package, the answer is "no" to question 1 and "yes" to question 2. My request would be that it is more plainly spelled out, perhaps even given an example in the character creation rules if there is space, since we spent a good 30 minutes trying to figure out what the answer would be. Part of the confusion came from the fact that you apply your background before the class, making you "trained" in a skill before you get your training.

Another thing we would like to see if possible is the fact that Lore is a signature skill for everyone more prevalent, rather than only written in the skill description itself. Being written under the Signature Skills in the classes would be really helpful, specifically.

Will report back once we see what else we find!

So, a gun smuggler has the following text:

Secret Sidearm wrote:
"... a gun smuggler gains a battered gun identical to that gained by a 1st-level gunslinger and Gunsmithing as a bonus feat (including the ability to restore her battered gun as if she were a gunslinger), though she must select a coat pistol, dagger pistol, or sword cane pistol as her battered weapon."

The sword cane pistol also have the text:

Sword Cane/Dagger Pistol wrote:
"... is considered a double weapon for the purpose of creating masterwork or magical versions of this weapon.

The question I have is if they can repair both parts of the weapon with their Secret Sidearm ability (with the associated increase in cost), or if it only applies to the pistol part of it?

My interpretation is that it only applies to the firearm portion, because all that's addressed in the Gunsmith c;ass ability of the Gunslinger (and that's the interpretation I'll be using for my PFS character for now), but I want to hear other's opinions on it as well.

In the CRB, the Profession skill description lists different common professions under different mental scores. My question is if those are specifically only for those ability modifiers, or can they be switched around. Like, say, could my Engineer use Intelligence for his Profession: Bounty Hunter, or is that always a Wisdom profession?

I'm specifically wondering this for SFS, but I am curious for guidance on how to rule this when my players inevietably ask me the same question.

I have a character who will be worshiping Hastur in a low-key way in the AP, and we have already discussed party cohesion and that they would be working towards the same goal in the adventure path, so I'm not seeing any problems there at the moment (subject to change).

That said, knowing that he is doing that, I would like to find ways to add little bits that would interest him or allow him to pursue is goals (in a non-disruptive way), but am currently at a loss as to how I would do that, other than throwing The King in Yellow or references to it in the Sacred Archivist's hideout and perhaps turning the cult of Norgorber from the later chapters into a cult of Hastur, but I'm not sold on that idea. What are other people's thoughts? Where might I be able to add things, and what might I be able to add?

Ultimate Combat wrote:

Shang Gou: Forged in pairs, these solid metal blades end in curved hooks, while the hand guards are hammered into outward-facing spiked crescents. Both the crescent and the tip of the hilt are sharpened for combat. They can be wielded as single weapons or with two-weapon fighting styles. The weapons gain the disarm special weapon feature when used individually. A pair of shang gou can also be formed into a single one-handed weapon to gain the trip special feature.

So, would one enchant Shang Gou as a single weapon, or as two separate weapons? It doesn't say either way in the description, while it does say something to the effect in things like the double walking stick katana and the butterfly sword.

So I have an idea that takes the form of a Dhampir Barbarian with the Flesheater archetype. The problem that I recognized yesterday was that if my allies try to save me with a Breath of Life if I happen to go down and exit rage, I would be BEYOND dead. So, now comes the question:

What feats, traits, abilities, items, or the like can I use to try my level best to NOT be in a situation where Breath of Life would normally be needed?

Also note that this is a PFS character, so only PFS legal options would be much appreciated.

So, I was looking at the Pure Legion Enforcer prestige class and have become interested in building one. That said, I don't want to be having to save against Cure spells whenever someone is wanting to help me stay alive. So that begs the question:

Especially in PFS, what can I do to heal myself without divine sources?
What classes could I be, items could I use, or other tricks I could pull to keep myself standing so I don't have to waste other people's resources?

I recently got all the boons I need to make a Suli in PFS, and I really want to take full advantage of the flavor and mechanics the race provides, namely Elemental Assault.

I've looked at the Elemental Knight archetype for the Magus, and that's not entirely off the table, but what would be some suggestions for a Suli embracing his elemental heritage, weaving the elements into his attacks whenever possible?

So I played a scenario with my Occultist, and on the chronicle sheet was a Page of Spell Knowledge. "Great," I think, "a way to get more spells!"

The problem being that in the description of the item is specifically calls out "Arcane or Divine spells," but the item was made before Psychic magic was created. So the question becomes:

Can Psychic casters use the Page of Spell Knowledge in PFS (and to a lesser extent in general), or no?

Hello, I don't know if this is allowed, but I would like to request that a GM to run Silverhex Chronicles. My regular gaming group has already played through it, so none of them are willing to run through it again, so I am missing out on three of the quests. I am willing to play through all of them again, I would just like to finally get through all of them so I can move on with my character :-P

If requests are not something that's allowed, I apologize and will delete the thread posthaste.

So, I decided to build an Samsaran Occultist for PFS. I've only played one session, but I really enjoyed how the class played. I am building her to be in a support role, and in that spirit I picked up the Abjuration and Transmutation implements as her first two, picking up Aegis as the first focus power.

The role I'm trying to fit into is stay close to my allies and hit them with buffs (currently Legacy Weapon and Aegis) and inconveniencing enemies (Peacebond and a reach weapon).

My question is: where should I go from here? I can't decide what implement school I should pick up to keep with the support role to hold me over until I get my 4th implement at 6th level. What implement would you recommend?

The Samsaran's Mystic Past Life alternate race trait reads thus:

Advanced Players Guide, Samsaran wrote:
Mystic Past Life (Su): You can add spells from another spellcasting class to the spell list of your current spellcasting class. You add a number of spells equal to 1 + your spellcasting class's key ability score bonus (Wisdom for clerics, and so on). The spells must be the same type (arcane or divine) as the spellcasting class you're adding them to. For example, you could add divine power to your druid class spell list, but not to your wizard class spell list because divine power is a divine spell. These spells do not have to be spells you can cast as a 1st-level character. The number of spells granted by this ability is set at 1st level. Changes to your ability score do not change the number of spells gained. This racial trait replaces shards of the past.

Reading it as this, does it work with the new psychic magic? I would be inclined to believe it does, because they psychic classes came out long after the ARG, so psychic magic would have no reason to be called out.

What do other people think? what does the Paizo Dev Team think?

This has been rattling around in my brain for a while now, specifically because I'm trying to imagine a Golarion in a setting with technology on a similar level to the 1940's. The one thing that stood out to me was the discovery of steam power, and then the magic used to replicate it without expending resources:

Permanent Heat Metal + Decanter of Endless Water

What other forms of technology may be different? Discuss!

Yes, I know steam isn't a mainstay of the 40', but the Industrial Revolution; I thought of steam power because of how pivotal it was in the progress of technology, and I can't help but wonder what else would have been different as time went on

Disclaimer:
Let me begin by saying that I am not setting out to make waves, and I earnestly request that players do not use any discussions that may come up in this thread to strongarm their GMs into allowing this into their games, as they may have different opinions, and ultimately they can decide if they wish to allow it.
As well, I do not know if this is the correct place to post this, so please let me know if it should be moved (and for that matter, how)

Now that I have that out of the way, I have a thought:
Why is the Samurai class considered taboo in non-Eastern settings? I understand that "Samurai" has a specific connotation, but I think that the idea behind it is something analogous to many cultures, specifically the strong adherence honor and the willingness to lay their life on the line for their king, their lord, their country, or even their group of close friends. So I ask: why not allow Samurai in your game no matter the geographical setting? A fighter or cavalier may fit the same role, but I feel that the class itself, both in flavor and mechanics, fits it more.

Discuss (but please be civil ;-) )

Silver Crusade 2/5 5/5

I'll start off by saying I dunno if this belongs here or elsewhere, seeing how it's very specific and references the Reign of Winter adventure path.

That being said, I have a question about the Frost-Thunder Hammer. The additional resources page says it's not legal, but it's listed on the chronicle sheet. My question is, is it legal or isn't it? I would like to know so I know what to tell my players (and more selfishly so I can plan out the character who will be receiving said chronicle as well as the others :-P)

I'll get to the point: I had a question about wearing barbed vests when you have medium armor made of mithral. In the description of mithral, it says armor is considered lighter for movement and other limitations, and I was curious if the barbed vest fit under the "other limitations."

I ask because I have a half elven ranger that I was thinking of buying mithral chain mail or a mithril breastplate and was thinking of whether I would want to sell my barbed vest or not.

I have searched around the message boards and the internet and have found nothing on this subject, so any input is appreciated :-)
