Early Life
Glen, born Grulag son of chieftain Swampstomper, was a horrible disappointment to his father, at least he would be if goblin parents paid any attention to their offspring. He did not share the usual goblin views or aggressive nature, it was obvious at a very early age that he was different. Glen was studious and curious taking great interest in mysteries and solving problems, which of course was not accepted in the tribe, goblins tended to solve their problems in the most violent and bloody way possible whoever was breathing at the end could make up the story as they saw fit.
Leaving the Tribe
Glen grew into a right ugly goblin, in fact he was almost unrecognizable as one, his head was too small, his mouth was narrow and his teeth weren't sharp enough he barely looked like a goblin at all. He left the tribe as soon as possible finding that if he didn't draw attention to himself people might mistake him for a deformed gnome, or especially ugly child which was a considerable step up from a goblin, and enough that he could at least make due along the fringes of town.
Case of the Broken Clock
The mysteries were much more interesting in the city away from the other goblins, and much more rarely solved with a dogslicer in the face. Glen amused himself learning about these mysteries for a time generally watching from afar how the people went about working out the puzzles and solving the mystery, there always seemed to be a logical reason for things out of place. One of the first cases he actually decided he would attempt to solve was that of a broken time telling device owned by one of the wealthy families in the city. Curiously all the craftsmen and engineers that they had examine this clock couldn't find anything wrong with it, they would fix the time, but after a day or two it was once again off. Glen examined it himself and sure enough there was nothing wrong with the device, that meant something else must be the cause. Glen tried to investigate and learn more about the clock, but the wealthy family wouldn't speak to the repulsive little freak, in fact the only one involved that would even listen to him was a catwoman by the name of Miyari. Glen could only guess why this woman listened to him when no one else would, but when he explained his theory that the clock was being purposefully tampered with as some kind of signal he wondered if anything had gone missing. Miyari, being surprisingly pleasant to this hideous shrimp, offered to find out. When she confirmed some decorative items were missing Glen felt it confirmed his theory and explained that the clock was being used to facilitate robbery, the hands on the clock intentionally being stopped at a certain point to indicate the distance and direction where the items being stolen were hidden. When Miyari took this theory to the master of the house and requested permission to confirm it he agreed, when the clock stopped next it led the two right to a fancy jewel adorned goblet hidden carefully away. The usual engineer was called in and fixed the time, Glen and Miyari hid themselves away and waited. It wasn't until nightfall when they saw the engineer return and head straight for the hiding place. The two jumped out and caught the man red handed. The mystery was solved and the robbery stopped, when the engineer was questioned it turned out he was working with one of the servants who would hide something, adjust the clock, then leave a door unbarred after the engineer fixed the time.
Journey to the South
After their success in the case Glen and Miyari decided they would work together, and make their own investigation team. Glen didn't think he needed the assistance, but had to admit Miyari made conversing with the townfolks much easier, and she did have some interesting theories at times, although they were usually wrong. Despite their success with the broken clock and the grateful family the two found it very difficult to land any other good cases, they were stuck dealing with very simple and low paying jobs. They decided in order create a reputation that would open up more jobs to them they needed to reach more of Brevoy. This charter from Rostland could be the answer, success could sky rocket their reputation. Even better if the intent is to form a new kingdom they may even become the royal investigators or whatever the nobles called such people... maybe Glen should brush up on his understanding of nobility. Glen knew he would make a terrible leader, no one would follow him, Miyari on the other hand had a way with people she would make a fine ruler, with him helping from behind of course. Miyari met with some of her friends going south and convinced them to let the two join the expedition, and so they left Issia behind them. Glen was almost giddy with anticipation for all the mystery and problems they'd encounter, rulers must have all kinds of interesting things to solve. There'd be no more finding misplaced handbags or runaway pets.
