When it’s his turn, Gilfroy will cast bless on the group and start moving

During the duel she’ll be distracted. They should be able to make it up the stairs behind her.

The room is 40 feet away, so if he stays right inside the doorway, he could charge, though that would mean no grappling.

Gilfroy takes a moment to really study the door, then once everybody is in the room, and leaving the door open, casts a silent image of the door closed and maintains concentration on it (which for him is a swift action).

The Will save to disbelieve is 16. The party gets a +4 bonus since they know it’s an illusion, and their quarry shouldn’t even get a save unless she interacts with it in some way (or is purposely looking at all the doors in case they’re illusions).

The left map is the ground floor. We should ambush her on the second floor, so she doesn't just run out the door and leave. I would say the second from the top (at about 10 o'clock) gives the best sightlines and charging lanes through the columns.

”If we get inside a study room, I can make an illusion of the door that we would be able to see through, but she would have no reason to suspect, unless she decided to open it for some reason.”

Gilfroy shakes his head. "Distracting rank and file soldiers who don't understand how magic works or what it's actually capable of are one thing. Fooling someone trained in spellcraft is quite another. But I'll see what I can do."

”Cause? Okay, let me see. On the one hand, this here is a genuine constable with the actual City Watch, here on an official investigation to a threat to the city. On the other hand, this dwarf here has a mechanical arm he uses to gut and eviscerate people he finds uncooperative. You can pick whichever one you want to be your cause.”

Gilfroy can't reach to pat Arakar's shoulder as he lashes out at the depressed minstrel, so he settles for a knee cap instead.

"Where to now?"

I’m recruiting for a story-intense old-school game here if anybody is interested in adding another game.

”Okay! Don’t hurt him! I’ll call them off.”

He steps forward and starts chanting at the spirits, which turns into a colour spray in the soldier’s face. Will DC 16

Gilfroy rolls his eyes at Arakar’s “attempt” at deception, but keeps his peace until its clear that the soldier isn’t buying it.

When the soldier doesn’t believe Arakar:
”Enough of this,” Gil says and steps back to give himself room. He begins to intone: ”Mistress of Death, give up your prize. Into this realm your children rise! A life to take, to slate your thirst. Send forth your ilk, this man to curse!” He then uses his ghost sound SLA to create the wails of tortured souls slowly rising up behind the soldier (DC 15 to disbelieve). ”Block off the window. Don’t let him escape before the spell is finished or they’ll take us instead!”

Not knowing read magic of all things, Gilfroy is not the best person to examine the scrolls, but he would like the expeditious retreat scroll once somebody does have a look. His little legs make it hard to keep up with everybody else!

While the guards search the tower, Gil enjoys actually spending some time with another gnome, them being so few and far between.

Once they're ready to head to the wizard's school, he becomes all business again.

Having a look through our characters, it seems that NOBODY has read magic! Of course, one can use spellcraft to identify scrolls. Taking 20, Gilfroy can figure them all out while chatting with Rivereye.

Gilfroy gathers up the cut ropes and takes them to the balcony. Tossing them down to Dustin, he calls out, ”Good friends. Elves have attacked the tower for purpose of theft. We are allies of that man you now approach. Here are the bonds we have just cut from the tower guards we just rescued up here. I beg you to not be hasty and let your colleagues vouch for us when they awaken.”

Gilfroy shouts his questions as he hustles for the stairs leading up.

Gilfroy decides against heading out after the elf on his own.

In round two, he casts bless, granting all allies a +1 morale bonus to attack and Will saves vs fear (save bonus won’t stack with Elena’s aegis).

Gil looks on quite helplessly, as none of his magic is useful in this situation. Seeing Arakar's plan taking shape, he can at least help with that.

"Yes, friends, if we could overlap those sturdy blankets, we could at least break their fall if they have to jump for it. This is one of those times when we are stronger standing shoulder to shoulder against the evil outside, or above."

At least, that's what folks would have heard him say if his tiny little voice wasn't completely drowned out by the roar of flames and screaming crowds.

Gilfroy maintains a parallel course with Brandt, who at least seems to have kept his head.

Faced with a steady stream of panicked humanity in his way, however, he calls out to the guardsman, indicating the diminutive sorcerer is in need of some assistance to avoid being trampled.

Gilfroy eyes the giant bat uneasily, but then hops over two prone people to get up onto a nearby crate and out of the crowd. He searches the throng for Torrent, and sticking to walls and edges of the street whenever possible, he carefully makes his way towards her.

Gilfroy nods in appreciation at the compliment. As the others get healing, he studies the dog.

"I'm concerned that this dog could be used to track us by scent, but I'm loathe to kill the poor creature. Are any of you proficient with handling animals, and we could perhaps draft this creature to our service?"

He will at least non-lethal coup-de-grace the unconscious men so that when the spell runs out, they're unconscious for real.

”Well, if you think there are influencers who might help us, then so be it. A daring ruse can be our plan of last desperation.”

He drains the rest of his beer, hops off the stool, uses his prestidigitation to make the metal tankard shine, and uses the reflection to reapply the dirt and whatnot he uses to look like a human child. It’s just a few small changes, but with the different way he holds himself, it’s easy to see why Arakar was fooled.

”Militaries have procedures and standard operating procedures for all the normal stuff, but when truly unique things happen, soldiers flounder trying to make those procedures fit. For example, none of the men guarding the gates have been trained to deal with an invading army leading a group of inquisitors bent on killing an entire realm of magic users, so anything that goes along with that circumstance is outside their experience, and therefore their training.”

”We don’t really need a lie in this situation, when the truth will work even better. How fortunate for you that you have a prisoner, a small, weak little priest of Shelyn who refused to bend the knee, and how fortunate that you were able to beat out of me the location of others like me, hiding on a farm to the south. There’s a group of magic users the Resistance may be counting on to come to the rescue, and you’re the scouts letting me lead you to their hidden location, so you can alert the inquisitors, a present to the Ragesian invaders.”
