"Uh ... well done," says Mitnal a bit embarrassed.

"Hm. Thank you." Gerhardt seems quite pleased with himself. He glances at Kenzo. "What's wrong? You've gone rigid."

Male Half-orc Druid 4

"I think that's my cue," Gerhardt mutters. He rushes in, swinging his falchion at the 'man'.
Attack (Power Attacking): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Damage: 2d4 + 7 ⇒ (2, 4) + 7 = 13
It occurs to me that Gerhardt is actually a bit of a munchkin. Maybe I should take an unfavorable class next level.

Male Half-orc Druid 4

Gerhardt slowly draws his falchion. "Something's wrong."

Male Half-orc Druid 4

Gerhardt stares blankly at the transformation. "What in Gozreh's--"
Knowledge (nature)1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Can I work out anything about the man?

Male Half-orc Druid 4

"He's dead."
I assume Grayst hasn't yet closed the door. If he has, Gerhardt/Mitnal does not say this.

Male Half-orc Druid 4

Gerhardt stays with Mitnal, watching his surroundings warily.

Male Half-orc Druid 4

Gerhardt peers at the man suspiciously.

Male Half-orc Druid 4

Internet kept taking my post. In it, Gerhardt was trying to intimidate the fellow, but not even he's so socially inept as to do so now.
Eilif conceals his glare under the pretense of fiddling with his hat.

Male Half-orc Druid 4

Gerhardt follows silently.

"I suppose?" Kenzo says to Gerhardt. "I thought you were looking for some excitement and adventure? Now while I wouldn't make light of the death of our good citizens, it does seem like something foul is afoot."

Gerhardt frowns. "Of course. But obviously I would have some disinterest, since it looks like a typical murder/suicide, or perhaps a serial killer. It has little to do with me. But I'm helping, so I don't see what you're complaining about."

"I suppose. I've nothing better to do."

Male Half-orc Druid 4

Gerhardt shrugs. "The smell is...hm. Goblins? Very smelly goblins? The bodies aren't that old."
Knowledge (nature) 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
How quickly do bodies rot? Gerhardt is grasping at straws.

"Or it could be undead. That makes a bit more sense than your theories. Zombies, perhaps."

The grisly corpse is a very bady mangled body of a young girl.

Mitnal, after carefully searching for tracks does indeed find that there are the remnants of wet footprints near to the river, as if someone swam up to the lumber-mill from the river and then climbed in.

Searching the rest of the lumber-mill provides little more.

As you complete your investigations, the sheriff asks, "Thoughts?"

Gerhardt stares at the body in disturbed silence. Finally, he managed to speak. "Who is this?"

"Hopped through a river," says Mitnal, now getting into this detective stuff. He follows the tracks downstairs.

Gerhardt follows. He seems a bit annoyed for some reason.

Male Half-orc Druid 4

Bump.

DM Wicht wrote:

Mitnals examination of the chest reveals a box full of iron wedges, files, a bundle of oily twine and an assortment of bent nails.

Gyorgy and Gerhardt's examination is slightly more fruitful. There are bloody footprints that lead to the body of Harker, away from the saw. Tracing them back, there is some evidence they may have originally come from the lower floor. Which has not yet been examined, though there is another body down there.

If you want to look for footprints on the bottom floor you'll need a survival check.

"Hmm. They clearly lead downstairs," Gerhardt says.

Untrained: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Male Half-orc Druid 4

Gerhardt doesn't seem very interested, but wishing to keep up appearances, he examines the footprints to see if they lead anywhere interesting.

The skin and bones sticking to the axe blade seem to be from a corpse, dead for some time. They smell like a dead thing as well. Clearly the evidence points to someone with bloody hands hitting a very dead person.

The sheriff watches you for a bit before saying, "You might take a gander at the markings someone made in Harker's chest as well."

Gerhardt approaches the body with distaste, and examines it closely.

The dead-thing smell is stronger near the axe. There are bits of hair and maybe skin along the axe blade, though strangely no blood. The blood is all on the handle - bloody handprints.

"This axe is really disgusting."

I give my allies a wave: "Bloody handprints all over the handle, but not the blade. Smells disgusting."

I feel like Sherlock Holmes!

"So, what? The victim tried to block the knife thrusts? The knife was wielded by the blade?"

Male Half-orc Druid 4

Gerhardt stares impassively. "I've seen a lot of death, but this is beyond it."

Mitnal wrote:
"Smells like blood ... and the faintest smell of old meat," says Mitnal triumphantly. "That might be a clue."

"Old meat? Like a butcher shop, or as in rotten flesh?"

Male Half-orc Druid 4

"Chopper?"

Male Half-orc Druid 4

"The unpleasantness?" the half-orc asks curiously. He takes the message. "Hmm. Perhaps we should take a look at the scene of the murder."

Male Half-orc Druid 4

Gerhardt glances at the sheriff, then goes back to his drink. Wonder who he's talking t--oh, right.
"Not at all," he says. "You're probably wondering who I am. I am Gerhardt Eilif. I've joined up with this band. Decent bunch of fellows."

Male Half-orc Druid 4

Gerhardt looks taken aback when Mitnal answers him. He stares blankly as the plainsman waves his hand in front of his face. "What are you doing?"
He pauses, then laughs. "Ha! You are a funny man, Mitnal Basketweaver!" He sits down, still chuckling.

Male Half-orc Druid 4

There is an awkward silence.
"So, what are you up to now?"

Gerhardt shrugs. "The Lands of the Linnorm Kings had nothing for me. I thought I might as well see what the south had."

Mitnal recognizes Gerhardt's story as similar to his own. "The south has more rabbits," he suggests, indicating his stew. "You know, rabbits? They have long ears and brown fur and jump."

Gerhardt smiles. "I do. They taste alright. Varg loves them. My lands had them, too, but I suppose the south does have a few more."

I nod my head toward our quiet friend: "And Kenzo's cool head."

Spying my aunt, Luba, leaving the kitchens; I raise my voice: "To be honest, we did those goblins a favour. They've never had a wallop from Luba's rolling pin."

I give her a cheeky grin and a wave.

"So, Gerhardt, how did you end up in Sandpoint?"

Gerhardt shrugs. "The Lands of the Linnorm Kings had nothing for me. I thought I might as well see what the south had."

Male Half-orc Druid 4

Gerhardt bows to Ameiko nervously. "Hello." He turns back to Gyorgy and listens intently. "That is interesting. A demon, you say? I know a great deal about such creatures,* and that you were able to defeat one is impressive. And you bested an entire goblin tribe? Such creatures are nasty, and if you attack them by yourselves as you did they can be tricky little things."

*Sense Motive 16:

1d20 - 2 ⇒ (18) - 2 = 16
He shifts a little as he speaks, and avoids eye contact. At best, he knows very little about demons, and most likely knows nothing.

The half-orc frowns. "I gave you my name. Is it not common courtesy to give yours? Just asking."
Mitnal looks surprised, "If you have given me your name then I am Gerhardt Eilif. And, then, you would be Mitnal Basketweaver. I am honored to take your name, Mitnal. I wish you success."

Mitnal stares. "My name--" He pauses. "Oh! Ha! Haha! Very well, Gerhardt. But know this. That name has been with me for a while, so try not to damage it. Make sure you pronounce the 'hardt' right.

"Actually, I was wondering if you lot would be interested in my help. You seem to have saved the town. If you go on any other ventures...well, I've nothing else to do. And Varg and I could use the companionship."

I'm assuming this is our cue...

Wicht:
Gerhardt has left Varg outside, preferably in a dark corner where he will be mistaken for a particularly stout dog.

Gerhardt Eilif notices the group enter. Well, I'll be hit over the head. Those must be the 'heroes' I heard about. Don't look like much. Still, they look decent enough. And if they get such fame for being decent...
A gray-skinned man with a bushy yellow beard gets up and approaches the newcomers. A closer look reveals that he is a half-orc. A heavy-looking backpack is slung over his shoulder, and he wears a well-kept coat of what seems to be wolf-hide. A large falchion is at his belt.
"Good day," he says, addressing Gyorgy. "My name is Gerhardt Eilif. I'm told you are well-known here."

Male Half-orc Druid 4

Gerhardt Eilif of Gozreh is ready for battle. :D

Male Half-orc Druid 4

Who here is levelled up completely?

Male Half-orc Druid 4

Yeah, I really just wanted to spend enough gold so my capacity wouldn't go over light. My ACP is bad enough as it is. As it turns out, gold is pretty heavy. Who'da thunk it?
EDIT: Okay, the most expensive thing I bought is the Elixer of Fire Breath. If you like, I can exchange that with some potions or scrolls. I just need to reduce my load.

Male Half-orc Druid 4

Okay, here's my character. I just assumed default rules for anything I couldn't find on this thread, so a lot of it will probably be changed later. Also, I have yet to do my Backstory and the other fluff.
Also, I think I spent a bit too much on a single item (I started out with the 3,000 gp. for 3rd levellers) with my Cure Light Wounds wand.
