Gerald sets the scepter down, pulls his lance off of his back, and points it straight up. Seeing that the key dangles just a foot or two from the tip, he tries to knock it free. Trying to jump up to close the distance, he swings his lance at the key. Acrobatics: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (3) - 3 = 0
Utterly unable to lift his feet from the ground, Gerald lowers his head in shame.

"I must express hesitation at trying the key on this chest. I do not know much of the arcane, but there appears is some sort of magical writing around the lock that I suspect could be a trap of some sort." Gerald glances at Jiece and Jericho. "Of course, I'm certain that someone else could handle the situation."

I'm assuming you meant Pearl. "Do not mistake our intentions. I, for one, still have intentions of presenting you with the supplies we have been given, but before I can confidently do so, I will need an explanation for the nighttime occurrences. Also, after what Pearl had to say about Chrissie, I'd very much like to meet her, if that's not too much to ask. She sounds like a wonderful child." Gerald does his best to give his voice a calm, soothing tone, hoping that it will bring about Baltwin's trust. "Please understand, we would like to give you the supplies, but we cannot do so in good faith until you explain yourself." DM: Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

"I think we should just head to the orphanage and try to piece things together by talking to the woman herself," Gerald says, regarding each of his companions in turn. "There is clearly something going on, but standing around speculating won't get us anywhere." As though this settles things, Gerald takes off for the orphanage, not even bothering to see if he's being accompanied.

Absolutely. I trust you and your pursuits, I was simply trying to point out that it is easy to become overly suspicious. However, I do believe that an organization that is foremost concerned with helping other would be an ideal hiding place for those who would abuse its power. I see that you have great wisdom in not discounting the possibility of dishonesty within the Silver Crusade, and I think it noble of you to desire it be brought into the light, if present. Gerald turns to Daniel. I tip my hat to you. You have bested me in the way of discourse, and I bend to your words. I spoke too harshly.

You bring up an interesting point, Ollystra. However, if we are to judge any and all "charitable efforts," as you put it, with a skeptical eye, this places you under suspicion as well. Gerald manages his most genteel smile. I mean no offense, of course. I am simply pointing out a fallacy within your argument. Nevertheless, I will observe Gilga with a healthy level of scrutiny. |
