CHARACTER TRAITS
Scholar of Ruins From the moment you could walk and talk, the ruins of ancient civilizations have facinated you. Because of this, you have special insight into geography as well as expertise in exploring lost places.
You gain a +1 trait bonus to Knowledge (geography) and Knowledge (dungeoneering) checks. One of these skills (your choice) is always a class skill for you.
Rescued by Shalelu At some point in the past, you had a terrifyingly close brush with death. Maybe a goblin nearly killed you during an attack on the town, or perhaps a building struck by a giant’s boulder collapsed around you. Whatever the peril was, you would have certainly died if not for the swift actions of Koya or Shalelu, who intervened just in time to save your life. You’ve never forgotten this, and remain fiercely loyal to the NPC who saved you. Perhaps even more importantly, the method in which she saved you seems to have had an impact on your own skills.
You gain a +1 trait bonus on all attack rolls against foes that threaten your savior as well as one of the following:
If it was Shalelu who saved you, she did so by pulling you to safety while simultaneously defeating the peril that almost did you in, and as a result, you gain a +1 trait bonus on Acrobatics checks and Acrobatics is a class skill for you.

Class Abilities
Bravery (Ex) Starting at 2nd level, a fighter gains a +1 bonus on Will saves against fear. This bonus increases by +1 for every four levels beyond 2nd.

Feats
Shield Focus You are skilled at deflecting blows with your shield. Increase the AC bonus granted by any shield you are using by 1.
Improved Shield Bash You can protect yourself with your shield, even if you use it to attack. When you perform a shield bash, you may still apply the shield's shield bonus to your AC.
Two-Weapon Fighting You can fight with a weapon wielded in each of your hands. You can make one extra attack each round with the secondary weapon. Your penalties on attack rolls for fighting with two weapons are reduced. The penalty for your primary hand lessens by 2 and the one for your off hand lessens by 6.
Combat Expertise You can choose to take a –1 penalty on melee attack rolls and combat maneuver checks to gain a +1 dodge bonus to your Armor Class. When your base attack bonus reaches +4, and every +4 thereafter, the penalty increases by –1 and the dodge bonus increases by +1. You can only choose to use this feat when you declare that you are making an attack or a full-attack action with a melee weapon. The effects of this feat last until your next turn.

Appearance
A typical Varisian, with tanned skin, moderate length black hair, and dark eyes. He usually wears simple clothing of dark blue and brown, with brown leather boots. In the field he wears scale mail, with a long sword, a shortbow, and a spiked steel shield with Thassilonian runes painstakingly painted on it. He always wears an old blue scarf around his neck, no matter the situation.

Personality
A dreamer, he would rather spend his time imagining adventures than doing mundane activities. He's also a cautious person, preferring to avoid rash action, or as he calls it, being 'the voice of reason'. Somewhat shy, he is actually very brave when the situation calls for it, and will defend those he cares about to the death.

History
He has never met his father, a Sczarni who left town shortly after his mother became pregnant. She died giving birth to him, leaving him only her blue scarf as a keepsake. He was raised by his strict Aunt and Uncle, who were determined to turn him into a farmer so that he wouldn't grow up like his 'good for nothing' father.

Despite their best efforts, Garridan was always a dreamer, who loved to spend hours reading about ancient ruins and the treasures and dangers therein. He always preferred to spend his time imagining going on great adventures while fishing in a stream to planting crops.

When he was old enough he joined the Sandpoint Militia, although he was soon disillusioned by spending time guarding the town. One day, however, his group was ambushed by goblins, and while some fled and the rest died, he fought to defend the townsfolk. Eventually he lost his sword, and was reduced to holding the goblins at bay with nothing but his shield. Just when he was certain that he would die, Shalelu arrived.

She saved his life, and after that he dedicated himself to something for the first time, taking his training seriously and working hard to master the fighting arts. While he spent some time trying to learn to replicate her acrobatics, he mostly concentrated on improving his use of the shield that had been his best weapon during the battle. It soon became the heart of his fighting style, and he replaced his simple shield with a spiked one.

Today he is a still a dreamer, but he now has the drive and dedication to see those dreams become a reality if given the chance. He is in awe of of Shalelu, and wants the opportunity to repay the debt that he owes her, but has been too shy to approach her in town, not sure how to even thank someone who saved his life. If given the chance, he will jump at the opportunity to go on an adventure.
