Appearance:
A few inches over six foot, Garidan is a couple of hundred pounds of hard, corded, muscle, his deeply tanned skin covered in Shoanti tribal tattoos. Unlike most Shoanti he’s not completely bald, instead sporting a single long braid of hair which hangs down from his otherwise shaven head. He’s clad in leather breeches, sturdy boots, and a loose shirt worn partially open (to better reveal his collection of tattoos... not to mention the odd scar or two), with a falconry gauntlet on his left hand, and a fur cloak across his shoulders. Here and there simple charms – feathers, animal bones, and the like – hang from his outfit. There’s a pouch and a dagger at his belt, and he’s carrying a long spear, again with feathers and ‘primitive’ charms fastened behind the head. A strip of mail armour can just be seen under his shirt, around his stomach, but he otherwise appears un-armoured.

History:

A shaman of the Shundar-Quah (The Spire Clan), Garidan spent three years in his youth living with the Shriikirri-Quah (The Hawk Clan) for ‘The Journey’ – his clan’s rite of passage. His relations and experiences with the Shriikirri-Quah, along with his acquiring of Zova – his hawk familiar – earned him his name ‘Hawk Dancer’. With his own clan acting as diplomats within the Shoanti, and the Hawk Clan acting as diplomats between the Shoanti and outsiders, Garidan ended up with a much more open view of people than most Shoanti traditionalists. Ending up in the city, Garidan sees it as his duty to keep the peace – both within the local Shoanti communities, and between his people and the rest of the city’s population. Tattoos he’s earned include the runes Drimiil (Guardian Heart), Kokip (Sentinel), Klartitil (Broad Klar), and Rotomo (Headwind), symbolising unity, watchfulness, the ability to lead, and travel.
